Inconsiderate people spilled cola on my car!!!

Recommended Posts

One of my co-workers came to me late yesterday afternoon and asked, "You're the only C-Max in the parking garage right? You might want to go look at your car."

There was dried cola all over my car.  It looks like someone set their drink on my hood and it tipped over.  There was cola down the hood, the side, on the grill, had dripped down into the fog lights, etc.  Since it was 103 outside yesterday, it was already dried and sticky, but at least I was in the garage so it wasn't baking in the sun.

With no access to water in the parking garage, I decided to just drive it home and wash it immediately.  I washed it, paying careful attention to the crevices and nooks and crannies (yeah, I know...it isn't an English muffin....but you get the idea).  Once dried, I used Griot's Speed Shine afterwards.

Looking carefully, I don't see any damage to the paint or anything, even though soda is pretty caustic stuff.  Any recommendations on anything else I should have done.....to the car, not to the person who spilled cola on it!

Fotomoto and a couple others have used this product. Seems like it might have helped a bit.   http://www.autogeek.net/optimum-opti-coat.html  They say it is holding up well.

I will probably try it as well.

I have had to clean soda off my Escape. I just washed it all off, as you did.

Here is the thread about Opti-coat. Fotomoto has pics there, and his car looks great.  http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/1295-opti-coat-any-one-try-yet/?hl=opti-coat

coke is very caustic.if you leave your tooth in it after it comes out, it will be dissolved in a short time period.

you sure the person who reported it isn't the one who did it??

too convenient that they knew about it with all the other cars in the lot. who is going to look at someone else's car while walking by just by happen stance??? hmmm sounds fishy to me.

Generally I would have thought the same thing Salsaguy - but the guy who reported it to me? No way.  If he had done it, he would have owned up to it. He probably would have offered to pay for a car wash!

Have you done anything to protect your car like waxing it or Zaino? You might want to consider washing and using a clay bar on the affected area and the entire car to get it clean and then protecting it with Zaino, wax or whatever product you feel comfortable with. I had never heard of Zaino before the FFH Forum, now I used their products on our Fusion Hybrid and on my parents' C-Max Energi and the shine is unbelievable! Same thing with the benefits of using a clay bar to clean the grit off the paint. I couldn't believe how rough the paint on my parents' brand new C-Max was before we did clay bar on it.
