Inconsiderate People Suck

The parking garage at work has narrow spots, so they can cram more cars inside.  I loved the fact that the C-MAX was, for its volume, a narrow car, and I figured I'd have no problem at all.

I was wrong.

Found this after work yesterday:

I don't even have my MD tags yet, and I've only been to the office three times, and this happens.  It's right on the edge of the passenger side front fender, so the dent will be almost impossible to fix without removing the panel, and the paint is completely chipped, which means repainting the fender, door, and probably hood as well.

I expected some dings and dents along the way, but not so soon, and not so horrendously big and bad! People have NO regard for other people's property anymore.  It's a disgrace.  I would LOVE to meet the person who did this and ask him/her just what they were thinking.  Do they think it's okay to damage someone else's property?  No note, nothing.  If I damaged someone's car like this, I would have left a note and offered to pay.

A few years ago, my wife and I were at the track (took my Shelby to a high-performance driving event).  Our tent got blown over by the wind and scratched an F-150 Raptor next to us.  We pointed it out and gave the driver our info.  Ended up costing us $700 to repair.  I didn't mind doing it; what I minded was the fact that not ONCE, when I pointed it out, when I offered to pay, or even once repairs were complete and I paid, did he thank us.  Nothing.  Just acted angry and kept wanting to blame us.

Sorry to hear about this happening to your new C-Max... Unfortunately, some of us gave up a long time ago... There are some good people still out there, yet they are becoming much harder to find.  I have cameras installed in my vehicles now for this reason.  They will only run for about 2.5 hours after I park, but that gives me more than nothing.

Good luck on a hopefully easy repair!

I'm also sorry that this has happened. There may be one saving grace in that, because the vehicle is so new, they may only have to paint the fender as the paint hasn't started to fade yet and may be easily matched. Small comfort but we have to take what little we can.

The down side is it happened at work, and it might be someone you know or work with that has so little consideration.

ARGH .......really, really, really a shame, to be sure!  My sympathies MMM.  We had to have ours in the shop for a 1/4 panel +++ repaint - not our nickel, and we were able to go to one of the best shops.  Hope the bugger comes forward and foots the bill.    A good shop, good job, and hope you will get past it.

What is wrong with people?  So sorry that someone did this to your new car.  I remember scraping a car in a parking lot with my big pickup.  I left a note apologizing profusely with my home number and name.  When they phoned that evening, I could tell they were expecting that they had been given a bogus phone number and were shocked when I made a full confession.  You wouldn't have to apply any torture technique with me.  I took full blame and even cried as they had a baby seat in the car and I felt so badly.LOL

Oh man. Some people I tell ya. I usually put door edge protectors on my doors. It has saved me a few times of owing somebody a repair. That is a bad spot too. Nothing you can really do to protect it. Perhaps some touch up paint from the dealer can "mask" it. Getting the dent out could be costly.

Man, that stinks! Sorry about that. We almost had to make a trip to the body shop ourselves a couple days ago. Wife was driving & it was pouring down rain. A driver beside us in the right lane decided they wanted to come over in our lane. Thought they were going to come right through my door. Wife slammed on the brakes & they just cleared our front fender. Wife didn't even have time to blow the horn. Very close call. Less than 3000 miles. Would have hated having the whole right side tore up already.

Years back I had a clunky Chevett worth about $500, that I used just to go to work  One morning I parked in the company lot. I was early so I sat in the car getting a few extra ZZZs. A few minutes later a fellow employee that I new, pulled in beside me.  As soon as he opened his door a sudden wind gust ripped the door from his hand and slammed his door in to my  driver side door.  The look on his face was panic and terror. He could not believe what had happened.  I got out and took a look at my car. The dent in my car was right in the middle of the door , six inches deep and 18 inches in diameter!  I casually said to him,"That's ok, forget about it".  He was so relieved. He would not be required to pay $800 to repair a door on a car worth $500.  I didn't like the huge dent in my car, but it sure made me feel good letting him off the hook.

I got a dent very similar to yours, maybe slightly deeper, on a trip when I opened the passenger door onto a concrete pillar I didn't see at a podunk gasoline station.  It had a metal cap and the corner of it made a nice dent in the door a little further from the edge than yours.  Man was I pissed at the station and my own stupidity.  Anyway, I resolved to have it fixed and took the car into a local shop called Dentbusters who specialize in fixing small dents like that.

They usually try to come in from the window to repair such dents, but in my case had to drill a small hole in the side of the door to get their tools in, which they capped.  Took about 15 minutes and the dent was entirely gone.  I could not detect it had ever been there.  Fortunately, I didn't have any paint damage.  The repair cost $100.  I suggest you try and find a similar body shop in your area that uses this technique, and perhaps do some DIY touch-up painting? http://www.paintscratch.com/

5. What is Paintless Dent Repair (PDR)?

Paintless dent repair is a dent removal process whereby an experienced technician massages the metal back to its original form. It is done in very small increments, with special tools, from the underside of the panel, without the need for fillers, sanding or paint. Not only does PDR save your original factory finish, it saves time and money, and is an ideal option for most dents, dings, creases, hail damage, and even some bumpers.

I had a pristine car for about a week!

Yeah, that really sucks.  I have a friend that many years ago parked at a pull-in spot on a street and another guy pulled in next to him and flung his door open and hit my friends car.  He waited until the guy went in a store then went over and kicked the entire side of his car in, then drove off.

  • 4 months later...

So very sorry to hear of this damage so early on as a Max owner too.  There's no hope for society anymore I've given up when people don't have the brains or scruples to know they should be responsible and leave a note.  I'd be looking for someone to bash if I were you.
