Underside coating/protection ahead of winter?

Hi all,

 

I searched before posting, didn't find anything relevant, hence the post.  I used to treat the underside of my prior vehicles prior to winter (lots of salt around here), used to go to Ziebart for this.  With the C-Max being not quite like other cars underneath, anyone know if it's still safe to apply the undercoating?  Thanks.

Good question.  In Connecticut, the DoT also uses a good bit of salt.  They have also started pre-treating in advance of storms using a liquid of some sort.  It works well, but I understand it has created more corrosion problems that salt alone.

 

I would think a trip through the underbody car wash would suffice to help prevent rust.

LOL - posts like this always make me smile.  I spent my first 45 years in the Boston area, with snow, salt, sand, and resulting corrosion/body rot.  Here in Phoenix, we have no snow - heck, it doesn't hardly ever even rain!  Windshield wipers don't wear out, they fail due to dry rot.  The undercarriage stays virtually pristine - even after many years, it accumulates merely a thin coating of dirt and dust that you can wipe off with a damp rag.  We do have some occasional snow in the upper elevations like Flagstaff and Kingman, and Payson and Show Low, but I don't think they use salt on the roads - at least not that I have ever seen.

Big Rocco you are very spoiled!  I just brought in my Anna's Humming Bird feeders as the temps are to go quite low tonight and they little guys will need their nectar in the morning.  Got to set my alarm for 6 so it is out there for them at first light and they go into a stupor at night when it is call and need their sugar first thing.  Most of our neighbours in our townhouse complex are in the Phoenix area right now, and they really love it down there.
