VELCRO Adhesive problems with Grill Covers

I have noticed a problem with new Velcro I bought at Walmart, the adhesive lets go when the Sun shines on it. It turns out Velcro sells a Velcro for plastics that has an higher temp adhesive that solves the problem. The part numbers are 90850 (strips, $3.00) or PN90881 (tape, $8.00) and some ACE Hardware stores carry it. You can use an hair dryer to heat up the Velcro to remove it and Lacquer thinner to clean off Grill Cover.  Then cut fuzzy squares to size and attach to foam squares on Grill. Then attach hard Velcro loops to fuzzy Velcro and line up Grill Cover like the first time you installed it. You are back in business again. :)

Thanks I have those but they don't look good and I'm not having problems with the Velcro staying together, just the adhesive. Velcro for plastic is doing the job so far. :)

I'm not sure which tabs the above are but Paul as I suggested to you before I am using the 3M Dual Tab VHB UV SJ3560 high temperature tabs along with the 3M VHB - Very High Bond Foam Tape 4655 (which looks like the same stuff you use but don't know with certainty) for my grille covers.  The tabs are the same ones that are sold for the EZ passes for attaching to vehicles.  

 

I also use the SJ3560 tabs for frameless solar screens (sunshades) for my home instead of a metal frame to attach to the window frame. Using the tabs reduce the DIY cost considerably of building quality frames for the sun shade fabric.  Lots of sun and high Phoenix temperatures haven't affected the tabs used on my grilles covers or solar sunscreen yet.  I use both the 1/2" and 3/4" tabs for the screens.  I use the 3/4" (trimmed slightly) to fit between the raised grille ridges for the covers.

I use 3M to attach foam to grill and use contact cement on both sides of the foam and then stick Velcro to other side. It's obvious to me that Velcro changed the adhesive on their standard off the self Velcro but didn't on the Velcro for plastics. :)

3M VHB Tape is VERY good stuff. I worked for a Bus manufacturer for a while and they used it to adhere body panels to the understructure. No rivots, no screws, nothing but 3M VHB tape. GOOD stuff.

HannahWCU I'm with you on the endorsement for 3M VHB, darn good stuff.  I've gone through several rolls of it since I started using it to remount my black GasPods to different locations while trying to find the best position for max mpg.  Stuff really sticks and can be removed fairly well when heated with a hair dryer to soften it's grip on your paint.  I use a putty knife to slowly slide under my GasPod to separate the 3M VHB from the paint.  Once the stuff sits for while it really cures and isn't coming off without some effort.  But it can be removed with care on painted surfaces.

how much for the grill covers? I just got my cmax almost 2 weeks ago and I am not getting very good mpg on the highway and it's taking the car almost half of my trip to warm up.
