Combined September 2014 sales fell to 1786, the second lowest month this calendar year, and third lowest combined monthly sales since introduction.

September 2014 Sales update, October 2, 2014 3:30pm:

NOTICE: Since prior month data are always included in each new monthly update to the spreadsheet and charts, effective today 10/2/2014, I'm going to delete my older monthly charts from this timeline.

DISCUSSION:

C-MAX Hybrid sales fell from 2451 in August to 1109 in September, 48% decline

Energi sales fell from 1050 in August to 677 in September.

A search of extended dealer inventory at Ford.com shows there are still are hundreds of C-MAX Hybrid SE's and SEL's in dealer inventory in most regions.

Is this substantial sales decrease a problem of inventory mix, with short supply of cars with the most desirable options?

I'm sure the no sale-no demo Airbag recall probably halted a few month-end deliveries of remaining 2013's since no parts are available, because the RCM recall involves only 2013 model-year vehicles built between Jan. 19, 2012 to Nov. 21, 2013. As I understand it, 2014 model-year production began in late December 2013.

Last year we could attribute the steep decline in sales from August to September to the adverse publicity of CU and the first EPA re-rating.

Thoughts?

Not too many CMax commercials here in the hybrid capital of the country. However, I am seeing WAY more CMaxs in our LA traffic now...good thing... :)

Plus I sent my salesguy @ Galpin Ford, the screenshot of the 901 mile tank...he was blown away, he thought the 800 was exceptional but this is jaw dropping. Hopefully that may taper off some of the poor MPG PR that was passing around, utter BS. And I did tell him that was all City, to be straight.

My DVR skips thru commercials so I have no idea if they're advertising in norcal, but I'm seeing them everywhere. Earlier this week I saw 2, a ruby red Energi, and a ruby red Hybrid SEL, in the same lane. Somebody in my work bldg has one too. Good to see I'll eventually have pick-and-part choices eventually for spare items. LOL

I did my part, I purchased my Energi in Sept.  I've seen ad's for the C-Max online and heard them on the radio here in Utah as well.   The Sept year-end deal was still in effect from Aug but the stock was down to 4 C-Max.

I finally got to the formal car-buying stage in September and noted the selection of C-Maxs in the St. Louis area has been pitiful - virtually nothing to chose from at any of the dealers, save some leftover demo stock. My take on the local C-Max scene is that the Ford dealers don't have much interest in carrying or promoting this model. I noticed a few 2015s finally showed up this week, but the selection is still terrible.

While I didn't buy a Ford, I came very close to getting a C-Max. However, with the underlying origins and solution for the battery problem still in fuzzy territory and concerns about both Ford's and

the dealers' long-term commitment to the car, I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on it.

Still hope they get their act together on this.

thats ok, you go with what you think its best. I have ZERO reservations about picking another SEL, but right now I don't need to - the new models give me no improvements especially compared to a well broken-in & driven Maxine. She blowing the EPA MPGs out of the water and zero issues. 37,000 miles on it already - can't be happier and she does great with the luggage space and all - a perfect vehicle for camping, and soon - to go to the snow with high MPGs.

I just got back from camping this weekend and she did 51.3 MPG climbing over a pass to the camp ground and she did 47MPG coming back with full AC on (got to keep the wifey happy). Both legs were full loaded and I mean to the roof with camping crap...48MPGs overall for 200 miles total 70% freeway, 30% highway - no city. Not too shabby...but could have scored much better if not for the AC. And the Pass.

Great report Jus.  Crazy good numbers for loading Maxine 'to the gills', climbing passes ................. BTW, our Lifetime MPG ticked up again yesterday, now 48.6 - crazy, impossible ......               Crazy good car Grouper is, and getting better every day !!!

I like how you broke it out to freeway, highway, city.  :)

On a related note, because they're assembled in the same Michigan plant as the C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi, Ford just reduced the base price of the 2014 and 2015 Focus Electrics to $29,995.

Here's a Monroney window sticker illustrating the new price:

Ford has sold just 1534 Focus Electrics during January through September 2014, the 9th best-selling EV or Plug-in Hybrid, according to the Inside EV monthly scorecard:  http://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/

Interesting. With incentives, I think the C-Max Energi is about the same prices as the FFE. I personally wouldn't want the FFE - I like the option of using that gas engine if needed.

EDIT: And with the FFE, a Level 2 charging station (220 volts) is pretty much required; that 120v "convenience cord" would never do the job.

& here.  1318 'standard issue' C-Max Hybrids sold in October, up a scosh from September in a tough ('down') hybrid market; a market 'segment' getting more crowded as well.

There aren't a lot of Energi's in stock right now around here. Most of those available seem to be less-desirable configurations.

I think that many were bought when Texas announced their rebates a few months ago. Coupled with the 2015 year changeover...... Well, ya gotta hav'em to sell'em!

They are all out here in Los Angeles. I think the local dealer has probably 40 or so on the lot, just the C-Max, not to mention the Fusion offerings.

I just picked up my new '14 Energi yesterday in Dallas.  My local dealer didn't have any & ended up going to OKC to get one configured the way I wanted.
