Squeek....squeek.....squeek.....

So I had my car at Galpin Ford for the 30K oil change and the recall. I picked it up, drove it home and nothing wrong....car was smooth as usual and as I didn't have my Gas Pods on or my grill covers, my MPG s*cked..and I can feel the lack of  glide in the EVing. Kid you not.... ;)

Got home, pull the car into my garage. I reloaded up Maxine with my usual crap....golf clubs, tire pressure reader, spare tank of gas,,,,more golf clubs...shag bag of 70 balls.....

Drove work in the morning and I decided to go the MPG route...1st mile...squeek....squeek-squeek.....

Hmmmh...after 4 miles....annoying...yeah...squeek...squeek...SQUEEK.....

Really annoying.

squeek... :banghead:

Super annoying.

Got to work, 78MPG for 20 miles, I luv that...but I checked the car...bumped the car, no squeek...ok....

Left work and decide to head to the golf range...driving there...squeek...squeek..SQUEEK..SQUEEK....

So I called Frank, my new buddy at Galpin Ford at 5PM. Got there... :detective:  at the car, the seat....and when we slam the door...it squeeked around the front seat. Move the seat....no noise. So we test drove the car, he heard the squeek but could never identify where it was coming from. Swerving the car left & right...SQUEEK.

Drove back. We thought it was my seat.

Nope.

Not the passenger seat...we checked the car service record and there was no work in the interior except the headliner. I did not have a back seat weld recall.

We moved the front passenger seat around and that seemed to reduce the squeek...squeek...but i could not leave the car overnight as I had an early meet and I had a couple of days of vacation so I was driving.

"Lets leave this till Monday" (this was on Tuesday).

Driving home, the squeek-squeek was less but STILL THERE.

Then I slammed my elbow on the centre console. SQUEEK.

Slam it again...squeek.

Slam it again...squeek...squeek.

Ah ha! I found the noise...it's the centre console. So I popped it open, threw out the plastic bottle of Clorox hand wipes and my large flashlight onto the passenger seat.

SILENCE IS GOLDEN.

Huh?

THE DAMN SQUEEK WAS FROM THE CLOROZ AND THE FLASH LIGHT RUBBING INSIDE the center console... :drop:

Moral of the story...jus carry less crap in the car :sandman:

The door seals squeak in both of our CMaxes.  I have to periodically apply silicone spray to them.  I've never had to (periodically at least) do this with other vehicles. :headscratch:

My driver's side door squeaks the same.  I took it to the dealer and it was fixed for two months then it came back.  I'll have to try the silicone spray on the door seals!

My doors - both of 'em in the front- sqeak right along the armrest/door pull.  It sounds like the styrofoam underneath isn't securely fastened. I took it into the dealer (Caruso Ford in Long Beach) on Tuesday, and left it with them for the day (note to Ford - even VW gave me a free rental car for my Jetta TDI. Why can't you?).   They've ordered two new "bezels" (that's what I was told) and - as yet - don't have the parts in stock yet.  I have hope. However, once the car has warmed up and I'm on a (relatively) smooth road? The squeaks miraculously disappear (ah yes!).  Still, it's the only car I've had - ever - with this problem. I don't think it's a build quality issue; I think the door panels/bezels were simply poorly engineered is all. Still, it's my first Ford ever, and I DO want to root for the home team - but it would be nice if the build quality was top-notch.

Otherwise? At 26,000 km, the car is running like a champ- I've never had a mechanical issue whatsoever! The MyFord Touch has been a bit temperamental - but it DOES work.  And I love driving this car - it's SO much more refined than my 2007 Prius could ever hope.  Just sweat the details, Ford! I love the car otherwise!

I was hearing a creeking near the seat belt tensioner, but that went away after the headliner recall was performed. I'm grateful for that.

Too bad the squeak when my leg pushes against the armrest will never go away. My legs are long and my arms short, so I have to kind of splay my knees to fit right. I wish the telescoping steering wheel came out another 2 inches!
