Samsung Galaxy phones + Sync =?

Recommended Posts

I have a Galaxy S4 and have no issues with it working with Sync.  The phone works well, and I was surprised the first time I received a text and asked if I wanted Synch to read it to me, which it did without issue.  I receive very few texts, and have not tried replying to them. Very few things are that important that it cannot wait until I am off the road. I use a USB drive for most of my music, so I have not tried streaming from the phone, but I would not expect a problem.

I am using the Galaxy S4. Connection with MFT is pretty seamless. It pairs every time although I have turned off the option to update the contact list as that was causing a delay in connection time.

I have posted previously about the delay in answering when receiving a phone call but this is pretty minor. Once the call is answered I have no trouble hearing the other person via speakers and they can hear me.

The MFT notifies me of incoming texts and the electronic voice will read them to me. Depending the punctuation used by the text sender, the voice translation will vary from fair to very good. As far as I can tell, replying via text is limited to standard answers that are already programmed into MFT. I think these are only available through the touch screen and not by voice which eliminates its practicality.

Early on I tried loading the S4 with music and streaming. This worked alright for individual songs but I had difficulty in playing particular playlists. This was almost a year ago and I forgot what exactly happened but it was frustrating enough to where I gave up and now use an older iPod via USB for my music collection.

I have a Galaxy Note II. I frequently use it for Bluetooth streaming.

I have had very good results. I did have issues where I would have to occasionally delete and then re-pair the phone, in order for the text message reading function to work. However, after closer study, I now think that this only happens after an Android update. This has happened perhaps two or three times over the past year. It is a snap to delete and re-pair.

Regarding texting, as was said above, MFT does not allow you to reply when the vehicle is in motion. The only choices are to stop, use a stock reply from MFT (which I wish could be customized), or to use the phone.

For streaming, the system has been excellent. The only thing that is a miss is that album art does not show when I stream using Spotify (the music app). You can use the steering wheel controls to move through the song que and adjust volume. I use voice commands to stop the music.

One other little hiccup: When I first get into the C-MAX, when I want to listen to something, I flip the steering wheel paddle, and I say, "Bluetooth audio." The system responds: "The Bluetooth device is currently not connected. Synch is trying to locate the device." It does this after I can clearly see that my phone is already connected. Right after it says this, streaming starts. So, even though MFT says that it can't find the device, it starts working a second later. Strange, but I have never had it not start working right after saying this. So, I no longer worry about it.

That list includes the Galaxy S4 but not the newest and most popular model the S5, which I'm considering getting.

Not sure if it's not on the list because they didn't update it yet or if it's really not compatible....?

Don't forget to check out our compatibility chart, fotomoto:

There are currently 99 Samsung phones on the list. :)

My department doesn't test the phones and update the list; I'm not too sure of what their process is, but since the S5 is fairly new, it may be a couple more weeks till they update the list with it.

thanks everyone for all the replies.I picked up the Galaxy Note 3 today and it works fine with the c-max!

Good choice!

I had observed the same as ScubaDad and I thought this is cumbersome to have to stop to reply (I know its safer, but). I hit the Sync button (i have the prompts screen active) and noticed that reply was an option, so I said reply. It changed to the screen with the pre-cut replies on numbered lines and asked which line number I would like to send. I picked line 4 and it said it was sending. I then got a reply to my reply from my wife so it must have worked. I didn't have to stop, and other than looking at the display to pick the line it worked well. Even while moving.

As an additional add-on to my last message, I now have a Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 which is paired to my Galaxy S4 via Bluetooth, & when in Neytiri the phone is paired to both at the same time. I have had no issues using either. When I use the Galaxy Gear 2 to place a phone call, the MFT display still shows Privacy Miode so car audio is muted.

With all due respect.  Reading texts WHILE driving is as ridiculous as having a newspaper spread across the steering wheel.   I commend FORD for having the motion disabler.

Sorry, since I have two kids now, seeing someone text while driving sends my blood pressure through the panoramic roof!!

Whenever I get the prompts that I have a new message, I just hit ignore & wait until at destination to check.

Only thing, I'll do while driving is answer phone calls & keep the conversation as short as possible.

I do everything by voice command. I see no problem in being able to listen to a text message, answer a call or dictate a short reply text. None of these require my eyes to divert from the road any more than would listening to the radio and occasionally using voice command to change the station. I was not suggesting to allow full keyboard use on the screen.
