Finally got around to having my Ford C Max rear bumper protector applied. Local Ford dealership referred me o a Sign & Screen printing business. This worked out well as it was applied perfectly and quickly while I watched, convincing me that I would not have done nearly that good of a job. Unfortunately it is very difficult to get a good picture to show off. Suffice it to say it looks good and does come down to he vertical part of the bumper. Should do the job.

I am getting the clear one from the dealership installed sometime this week hopefully. (waiting for the new GPS module to come in also) Sounds like the people who have it say it adds enough protection. Has anyone put both the clear and the black one on? I was thinking of doing that just because I like the look of the black one and it doesn't seem to cover enough of the bumper.

I have been thinking of doing that.  I wonder if the black one would cover all of the graphics adequately.

The clear Ford version C Max logo is fairly small. I can measure more precisely if you wish but doubt coverage old be an issue

Thanks.  I won't know until my SEL303A arrives at the dealership.

Ok, I did the install and it was pretty simple...
1 - Washed the car yesterday so it was already clean.
2 - Rubbed down the bumper top witha microfiber cloth
3 - Wiped it down with the suppled alcohol pad and again with the Microfiber cloth.
4 - Aligned the plastic protector piece left to right and front to back to get a reference (Without the sticky back tap uncovered).
5 - Peeled off the sticky back tape and laided it in place without any pressure to verify alignment.Once I was happy with the alignment I applied pressure to the entire piece by running the palm of my hand up and down the plastic several times.

NOTE: They suggest closing the rear door before applying the protector. This is IMPORTANT for aligning the piece appropriately front to rear.
I did not heed this advice and when the door is closed it looks a bit like it's to far in (and it probably is).
Left to right aligns nicely with two big groves in the "Trunk" area so that was easy.

Jay

Looks to me like you did a better job than that ebay photo- that one seems to be peeling up at the front corners, I see a bit of shadow there...

Do we know for sure it's vinyl?

The urethane used in those cell phone covers would be MUCH more durable.

Of course, a protector that never gets scuffed/scratched would never be replaced, so I wouldn't put it past a car dealer to prefer to use the vinyl...

I think the eBay seller just goes to the dealership and lays the protector on random cars to see what it fits.  If it happens to fit they snap a picture and list it.

Rear Ford bumper protection
My CMAX came with the CMAX clear bumper protection. I put a large scratch on it and wondered if anyone has ever removed that Ford factory brand protection. would replace iwith the same thing if rhe old one is not permanent.

I got one of these rear bumper protectors.   it wraps around the edge.  I golf and I use my bumper as a foot rest.

I see that they are not in stock...

I can't say how difficult it would be to get the old clear one off, but I suspect there would be lots of the original adhesive remaining on the bumper that would take some rubbing alcohol and lots of elbow grease to remove entirely. Install a black one like the UK bumper cover that Marc Smith used, and most the old adhesive probably wouldn't show.

The European C-MAX design was significantly updated for the 2016 model year, so the newer UK item would not fit properly. European countries also have the S-MAX (extended cabin size C-MAX), that probably also has a different rear bumper shape. The C-MAX 2010-2015 design was sold throughout Europe, so there are likely suppliers in other countries who still sell accessories, if you can find an English-language website that sells and ships to the US.

I purchased (partscheap.com) and installed the US 'factory' protection myself in 2014 after watching some YouTube videos about installing clear paint protection on hoods and fenders, to get a few tips from the 'pros'.

Best practices:

1. Wash everything and dry it thoroughly.

2. Clean the attachment area of the bumper with microfiber cloth and rubbing alcohol to remove any wax.

3. WITH THE HATCH CLOSED, measure and mark where BOTH the center logo and BOTTOM EDGE of each end of the appliqué are on the part the surface that will not move. Otherwise you'll get the logo too far 'under' the closed hatch.

4. OPEN THE HATCH and again, mark the center, where the UPPER EDGE of the protector should be on the bumper AND the upper edge of BOTH ends of the bumper just inside the hatch area where you can easily see to align it on the bumper before adhering anything. It helps to have a second person to help hold, align, and mark it.

5. After peeling off the backing, apply LOTS of soapy water to both bumper and appliqué and work from the center to the outside edge, gradually forcing the water out using a flexible squeegee to get everything adhered properly.

6. Make sure ALL the water and ALL bubbles are forced out before you quit.

7. Park it in full sun for a day.

More than 2 years later, it has accumulated a couple of minor scuffs (exactly what I didn't want to happen to the paint on the bumper itself), but it is still fully adhered.

If this all seems like a lot of bother, you can always have the dealer's trim shop remove the old one and install a new one!

Thanks for the help. Would not have thought of the european being different. Think I will need to wait till holidays are over and have Foord remove and replace the original.
