Maxus and a Pruis V owner

Drove a prius V with plans on buying one. Then I checked the crash test results and found it completely failed the slight off center test with the left front tire actually entering the drivers area. Safety is important to me so I did a little research. Found info on the C Max (didn't know they existed until I did this research) drove one, bought one! Only had it for a month but love it. Yes the V was bigger but the kids are gone, the dog died, so how many times do my wife and I need that extra space?

Let's be honest, the prius does exactly what it was designed for. It is reliable, gets good gas mileage and resale is better than the C Max. I just think the C Max does everthing I need with a more (premium) package.

One thing on performance, it's true people don't buy a hybrid for fast driving. I don't drive fast, but the other day an emerging truck required me (for the first time) to stomp the throttle to the floor. Wow, both gas and electric motors kicked in. In a heart beat I was safely out of a bad situation! I also have a Volvo S80 and this C Max will easily rip the pants off it!

Or more thing. No one has mentioned that you can't get powered seats in a Prius no matter how much you pay, even with leather. You have you to hand pump your self up to make your self higher. It's can be a hassel if you change drivers often. My wife is 5ft 2in and I'm 6ft.

They also don't think about hybrids on mountains either. Toasted a Prius climbing over a pass uphill to go camping. I was 57 mpg freeway until the pass and I dropped to 49 and finished at my destination at 51.2 mpg. Fully loaded with wifey. Gotta :wub2: Maxine. Erh, what was that EPA MPG for Freeway again? !?!? :victory:

IceStorms (and our color as well), nice post.

 

Today I was going out to tennis and in a hurry and pulled onto the highway in front of our development (typical speeds are 65 or about 10 over the posted limit) and I only needed to go about one block (I was literally going across the street to the next development to play) but rather than wait for a large break in oncoming traffic (which I usually do) I just kicked it and easily got out and over to the left lane to make my turn.

 

I never drive to endanger anyone (least of all me) so there was AMPLE time for the oncoming traffic to reach me, but I also don't want anyone to even have to put on their brakes.  By the time I was up to speed (in that block, mind you, so less than three seconds or so) I was at highway speeds with the nearest car at least 10 car lengths away (they were much further away when I started, naturally).  The first (and only) time I tried this in a Prius I was nearly run over (and it was a large semi that almost surely hit his brakes since he honked and I heard the air sounds come on).  It took at least two or three times as long to get up to speed in that vehicle, which was enough to convince me never to want one.

 

Anyway, even after all that I got 52 mpg (admittedly just a trip of less than 3 miles, so ICE very little except for those three seconds).

Marc - You want to "stab the gas and make the car go"?  Buy a Chevy Camaro, or better yet, buy a Chevy Camaro from the muscle car era of the late 60's and early 70's.  I have to keep telling myself that we are not in that era anymore and if I had a v-8, I would get myself in trouble TOO many times, like I did back in the 60's with my 318 Dodge.  Nope, I was satisified with my Escape Hybrid as per acceleration capabilities, my (current) Focus as per ITS acceleration capabilities, and when test driving both the C-Max and Fusion Hybrid I was satisfied with both of their acceleration capabilities.  I no longer need to "smoke the tires" thru the gears nor screech from a standing stop like I did back in the "era", and since I have grown up to be a big boy, I will be more satisfied with gas mileage and peppy acceleration (when I need that), than I will with Jack rabbit starts and beating someone across the intersection to the other side of the crosswalk.  Thank you very much!

I have outgrown the stab the gas and smoke the tires cars are "appliances" at this point in time in my life...  I had a 66 mustang,  Fiero GT (don't laugh it was a fun car)  several two wheel terrors and a 94 impala SS that was set up for road course racing and autocrossing....

 

a couple years ago I got a free promotional loaner from GM for a 6cylinder camaro RS in exchange for videotaped post drive interview.

 

What a car. ...I could only imagine what the V8 could do...

 

The C-max is a nice little car and very capable...

This is getting off topic some, but Late 60's were fun being a Mustang Fan my First car was 68 California Special GT 390ci 4speed and traded it in on a 70 MACH 1 Super CobraJet 428ci Auto w/ Drag Pack. It was a lot of fun racing at Orange County Raceway, forget gas mileage 5-10mpg. That car would be worth a ton of money now. LOL :)  :shift:

I wish I still had my 66...  I was never a fan of the mach 1's   I respect the car,  but  the looks never did for it...  I was a 64, 65, 66 mustang person...

There is no replacement for cubic inches IMHO. I also had 76 Cobra II, 84 SVO,86 SVO Comp Delete which I raced SCCA, 03 MACH 1 and 08 Shelby GT500. As you can see I'm an all kinds of Mustangs Fan.  :)
