So what do we luv about our CMaxs?

It doesn't drive slow and its fun, handles well and you can actually accelerate with it. And you can get MPGs galore out of it if you wish.

So..today I found this: money.cnn.com 2nd Gen Volt to be more FUN to Drive

Quote from that article:

:airquote:  When we talk to our [Volt] customers, fuel savings isn't the first thing that comes out of their mouth," Larry Nitz, General Motors' executive vice president for vehicle electrification, told CNNMoney. "What comes out of their mouth is 'fun to drive.'" :airquote:

Fun is one of the reason why I like my CMax, bring on the next gen CMax, is all I'd say  ;)

I gave the Volt just a passing glance when last shopping for my C-Max. My last GM vehicle was a sore spot with me. GM wouldn't even acknowledge their issues.

My 2013 Escape did have issues, and Ford took very good care of me when recalls were issued, no questions asked They have earned my future business too.

In related news Toyota reported that the new Prius V will come pre-installed with digital tracks of classic comedians who tell "stories" rather than jokes.  "It will take their minds out of how slow it takes to get there", Larry Nitwitz, Toyota's executive vice-president for Humorization told CNN.  "Back in the old days, a good joke took three or four minutes before you got to the punchline.  We want our customers to realize that 'fun" is relative and not to expect the instant gratification of the MTV generation."

In still other news, Toyota announced they were replacing Nitwitz with an executive who understood that "MTV generation" was a term no longer used or even understood by anyone.

Prius?  :gaah: ugg....   My boss has one and he loves it. I test drove one before buying my Maxie and he can have it. There was nothing I liked about that car.

As for the Volt. I knew a guy that has one and he was very happy with it. He was still driving on the tank of gas the dealership put in it 8 months earlier. Until one day the engine started and would not shut off. It ran until there was only a quarter of a tank of gas left. $$$$$$$$$   He found out later that it was programed to do that to keep fresh gas in the tank. He now only keeps a quarter tank in it so that won't happen again. Other than that he hasn't had any problems with it.

I could never get passed the styling of both the Prius and the Volt.  So much so that I never drove them when looking for a car.  The inside and the outside of the Prius is just a style that never did much for me.  Dash is strange and not in a good way.  My xB had a very strange dash but I loved it.  It was so functional.  The dash in the volt looks like a concept car from the 70's to me.  They were both too short.  I love the taller roof of the C-Max.  Easy to get in and out of, you sit higher and the dash is very well designed.  I do wish it had more storage but it looks great.

I really like the head room in my CMax.  Got rear ended (again....within a half mile of where I got rear ended the last time!) and had a rental "car" while my bumper was being repaired.  Was a Toyota Camry and I had to drive kind of hunched over to avoid continually banging my head.

I also like that with the CMax I don't feel like I'm sitting in a hole.  No, I'm not sitting up as high as when I drive the husband's F-250 Super Duty, but I also don't need a winch to pull myself out of the Cmax when I arrive at my destination.

If the completely rework the Ford Hybrid concept, I hope they maintain some of the features people in this forum have commented on over the years.  Personally I'd like to see a diesel hybrid - some of us drive long distances.  The Hybrid Touring model?

Had a volt 1.0 and, yup, it is more fun to drive than a Cmax  (and no contest compared to a Prius) but the form factor definitely has many limitations; hence why I jumped ship.  I'm not so sure the 2016 volt 2.0 will be much larger though.  If it is, I will certainly consider it since they are touting it will be even more fun to drive in the real world category (think 0-40mph where you can really use it all the time).

I'm with you. I love the head room and the seating position. Getting in and out is easy. All other cars I looked at made me feel like I was sitting on the floor and also had to lean the seat back to keep from bumping my head. Even the larger cars are like that now. I guess I could get a mini van. That is the closest thing to a C Max that I can find.

I hope the new design of hybrid has the head room, easy access and upright seating position. I have a back problem and this is the first car ever that I can drive without pain. Even my truck causes me pain on short trips.

Hope you are listening Ford. Keep up the good work.

I hear that Ford is working on new ground up designed hybrid. They will not make C Max hybrids any more. Hope that the new car will have the headroom of our maxes. I'm 6' 4" and that was the big selling point for me. Everything else I love about my Max was just icing on the cake.

I don't necessarily think that Ford will drop the C-MAX name.

Yeah Jus...I'm doing okay.  Sorry you are still getting over your whiplash.  I've been rear ended twice now (on the same road, both incidents within a half mile of each other) but no lasting injuries to the driver.

Thanks for checking on me.  Hope you get better soon.

By the way....I may have something set wrong on my profile, but I never get an email or a notification when someone tags me or replies to something I am "following" on the forum.  Otherwise I would have replied to you much sooner!

  • 1 year later...

I've driven a volt for weekends at a time, and yea its more fun to drive. Its got a smoother and more planted ride too. But the poor visibility and lack of space really detracts from its driving characteristics.

....that and the fact that it is really a four seater.... I couldn't get past that thing in the middle of the back seat.  Oh, and I just gotta have a hatchback!  Not ready for a sedan yet!
