Have 2013 C-Max with keyless entry. If there support to be any notification when you exit running car with key fob ? Wife has exited car twice now with car running to check mail and forgot keys in box. No chime or alert that keys are out of car.

If you close the door the car will honk.  If you leave the door open no notification.

If the car is not honking when she gets back into the car make sure the car

The car honked the horn 2 times when she got back in and shut the door, but she didn't pay attention to it.

Double horn would have happened twice actually---once when leaving car (and shutting door) and then when returning to car and shutting door.

I think he said she left the door open while out of the car.

Maybe one of the update campaigns activates that behavior because my un-updated unit doesn't.   Mine only honks if you exit and shut the door but nothing when you return regardless if the door was shut or left ajar.

It would only honk twice when you return if you had left your keys somewhere. When you return and the keys are with you the car does not double honk.

Cheers,

Bruce

That's because you have the key FOB with you. Leave it outside of the vehicle and close the door with the car in Ready/Run Mode and it will honk 2 times when you shut the door, as long as the key is far enough away from the car.

 Try it.

Exit the car and shut the door with it active.

Here's a novel idea----how about a battery-saving setting where if the car is on and idle BUT there is no FOB in the car---after 10 min the ignition automatically turns off.   Obviously if the throttle was engaged this would cancel itself.    This auto-turn off could be disabled in the settngs menu if desired.

A couple of times in our first month or two we were in the house and realized we forgot to turn off the car after unloading groceries.  I wonder how many C-max owners have left their car running in the mall parking lot for hours?

Well if the car is on then it wouldn't run the battery down, the ICE would start every time to keep the battery charged.

It probably could run for days in that mode.

I wouldn't call it idiot proofing, more like a sleep mode on a computer--it's idle for 30 min and it turns off to save power.

The honking also occurs if you have your car remote started and open and close the hatch.

We accidently ran into this situation. I dropped my Wife off at Outback so that I could look for a parking space but she had the key fob. Heard the horn chirp but at least the car continued to run until I found a parking place.
