Oh if Ford would only build a competing version of the B-Max! Under-floor battery - nice flat floor - 200+ mile range ...

I thought this was called the Grand C-Max?   The lack of a B-piller might spell trouble in a side crash.  Anyhoo, this style would be a GREAT plug-in platform that the current market sorely lacks.

The Grand is a different and bigger model.  They say the B-piller is built into the doors and uses high strength steel, etc.  I just think its the coolest thing ever.  Make the seats individually removable and there would be all sorts of cargo hauling options.

Confirmed by GM this morning so it's officially, umm, official and past the rumor/concept stage.  It also has an official webpage on the chevrolet site: http://www.chevrolet.com/culture/article/bolt-ev-concept-car.html

Interesting!  Things to note:

  1. Glass roof.  Love it but there had better be some sun shading available.
  2. Clear wheel inserts.  Neat way to keep the look while reducing drag.
  3. Price.  "Approximately" $30,000 (after Federal tax incentives).  Will there be any when the car comes out?
  4. Range & Charging.  Quite good of course at "over 200 miles" and 80% charge in 45 minutes.
  5. Body.  Glad its not another sedan!
  6. Styling.  Overall quite good but the back is better than the front.  Seems like stylists are still "EV challenged"!
  7. Moldings.  Go easy on the lower body plastic - could get nicknamed the "Boltaru".
  8. Headrests.  Sure hope the rear ones fold down some how.
  9. Interior.  It is supposed to "feel like a sanctuary".  Maybe if I sit in that "sanctuary" long enough - perhaps, possibly, with effort - forgiveness for the EV-1 may come - maybe, perhaps .......  they say time heals ..... takes more than 15 years .....

Anyway,signed up for emails - couldn't resist.

Now we just need to hear from Ford and Tesla and ????

Really want my next car to be pure electric.

Nice website.

Cool feature, although they are not the first.

"A smarter car.

The Bolt Connect app would provide drivers with an unprecedented level of vehicle control. Incorporating automatic park-and-retrieval technology, owners will be able to exit the vehicle and tell Bolt EV to park itself while they run errands, then summon it to their location when they’re done."

I can hear it now:  "I am sorry your honor, I had no idea my car was going to park in a no parking zone.  It did not send me an email"  :drop:

Hey, it is Friday and I am trying not to think about the HIGH temperature of 4 deg F. on Sunday for us here in Detroit.

It still smacks of a Max to me - A, B, C, D, E-Max, yes that's it - at least from the side a bit (not from the front).  ;)  Great profile.

I don't see many buttons & knobs on that dash - wasn't the car industry getting raked for that a year ago?

(Glad we have it all, from buttons to voice; & the winning profile)

  • 4 months later...

I'll give you an inside view of GM's Corporate HQ's opinions.

We would have what GM called "Diagonal Slice" meetings in the factory: employees meet the N.A. management in a meeting, Q & A afterwards, etc..

My Q: When will GM put out something like a Saturn wagon, with a TDI-like motor in it? I would buy 2 of them, if you mate it to a 6-spd gearbox...

A: The high MPG thing that is VW, is a PR thing for the greenies. We have no intentions of EVER going in that direction. ( bill Boggs, N.A. G.M. vehicle production)

What you see G.M. doing is spending Federal money to research something, to have the appearance of due diligence in spending the US taxpayer's dollars for something that Toyota started almost 15 years ago. It's theater.

General Motors is IN bed with O.P.E.C.. There is NO other way to put it, period.

I would encourage EVERY single one of you to go to YouTube and search for a documentary called "The Merchants of Doubt", watch it in entirety, then come back here and read through the posts per oil changes, and MPG FE, etc..

Then , ask some questions after doing some critical thinking: which Corporations took TARP money, and used it to build factories in China and India? Your tax dollars, not paid back, but forgiven loans... It was a smart business move on GM's part, at the time. Free Money.

The Ford Family, actually is OUR family and I have a feeling they are why you are here.

GM prototypes: more tax dollars from you and me, being spent that they will outprice so you and I cannot afford it, and "the market" said it was not viable. B.S..
