DTC P06B8 AND/OR DTCS PRESENT IN PCM CONTINUOUS MEMORY FOLLOWING REPAIRS OR ENGINE RUN-ON

Publication Date:  April 11, 2014

FORD: 2013 C-MAX, Fusion

LINCOLN: 2013 MKZ

ISSUE:

Some 2013 C-MAX, Fusion and MKZ Hybrid/Energi vehicles may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P06B8 in the powertrain control module (PCM) and/or have PCM continuous memory diagnostic trouble codes (CMDTCs) that will not clear after the cause has been repaired. In addition, the engine in some vehicles may continue to run-on for up to 5 seconds after powering down the vehicle when the engine is running.

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Using IDS, perform a Keep Alive Memory (KAM) reset. Select:
    1. Toolbox
    1. Powertrain
    1. Reset KAM, PCM
  1. Relearn the misfire monitor profile.
    1. Start the vehicle, leave the transmission gear selector in Park.
    1. Perform a manual tip-in on the accelerator pedal to force an engine startup.
    1. Allow the engine to run 15 seconds and shut down. If after 15 seconds the engine does not shut down, turn off the vehicle. After key off, engine will run an additional 5 seconds.
  1. Leave the ignition off for a minimum of 20 seconds.
  1. Turn the ignition on and using IDS check for PCM CMDTCs.
  1. Are PCM CMDTCs present and/or does the engine run-on for 5 seconds after powering down when the engine is running?
    1. No - repair is complete.
    1. Yes - perform the PCM Programmable Module Installation (PMI) routine. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 418-01.
