SSM 44718 - 2012-2014 Focus Electric / 2013-2014 C-Max Hybrid/Energi Hybrid Secondary Data Link Connector (DLC) and Aftermarket Devices Potentially Causing Drivabiltiy Issues
2012-2014 Focus Electric and 2013-2014 C-Max Hybrid/Energi vehicles are equipped with a secondary (16-pin) Smart Data Link Connector (SDLC) under the driver side dash. The secondary SDLC, also known as a GateWay Module (GWM) is located at C2803 and is under the dash compared to the primary DLC which is located behind a access door in the lower dash. Always use the DLC at C251 in the dash for Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) connection behind the access door. Please check both DLC connectors for any aftermarket device. Disconnect any aftermarket devices from all Data Link Connectors and retest for codes before pursuing normal diagnostics. Aftermarket DLC Devices can cause inaccurate DTCs and Warning Message Indicators, and set DTC codes that can lead to incorrect diagnosis and repair.
