eldrijt Posted June 15, 2015 Report Share Posted June 15, 2015 I put it on Auto 75 degrees but it got uncomfortable due to low fan speed. 75 with 3rd highest fan speed is comfortable but feels like the compressor is always on. SnowStorm Posted June 16, 2015 Report Share Posted June 16, 2015 As I understand it the compressor is variable speed so doesn't need to cycle on and off. "Everything" is going with variable speed compressors - its just more efficient. Since the C-Max needs an electric powered compressor, its "easy" to have variable speed. If you set MyView to show Climate power you can see what it is doing. For low power draw I always use Recirculate, temperature at 77F, fan cranked up as far as I can stand the noise and all unused vents closed. When A/C is first turned on the Climate power can go to 3 or 4 bars (supposedly 3000 to 4000 watts) but after the system stabilizes it drops to about 300 watts. With temperatures over 90F and fan up pretty far it might be 500 watts. Amazing! I figured out recirc yesterday too when it was 97 outside. no sense bringing in hot air. i was surprised it stayed on after restarting the car. Now if we could just get a heat pump for winter .... jestevens Posted June 25, 2015 Report Share Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) If you desire, you can press the physical A/C button on the drivers side of the center stack console to disable the compressor - it will show "A/C OFF" in the VFD/LED display of the climate controls...however this may not have the desired effect if what you really want is cooling. I forgot about this one time and had a laugh as my friend on the passanger side had turned the temp dial all the way down to "LO" - I figured he must've been frozen off his chair but had forgot that I turned the "A/C OFF" earlier in the day when it was much cooler to save battery. At any time if you press AUTO once or twice it switches the compressor back on in order to comply. I wanted to amend my post to say I only actually turn the compressor off on cool days, from my prius days I remember that it's a good idea to try to preserve the life of the battery pack by making it as comfortable as the rest of your passengers..
