Judy Davis Posted July 3, 2015 Report Share Posted July 3, 2015 Mice have gotten into the squirrel cage around the blower fan in my 2013 C-max 3 times in the past year! My car is now in the shop to track down an electrical problem that the dealer says is probably called by mice! This is getting aggravating and expensive! We park it in our carport. However, we've parked our past cars (all Fords) there for the past fourth years without a problem. What is it about the C-Max that seems to attract mice? We keep it clean, have filled tthe car with pine scented mouse repellent that farmers use to keep mice out of tractors, and have an electrical sonic repellent, but nothing has worked. Seriously, though, we occasionally have mice in our garage where Maximis is parked and never have an issue (that I know of, of course). My wife just lays out traps, the "sticky" kind that definitely attract and kill them. doncon94 Posted April 22, 2016 Report Share Posted April 22, 2016 We have had exactly the same problem, and since the blower requires about 4 hours of labor to get to, this is now costing us 500-900 each of the THREE times it has happened to us. At wit's end. Something about the CMAX makes for a good spot, and we may have to sell the vehicle even though we just bought a long extended warranty. One day they chewed through an ignition coil wire on our Sienna(thankfully it was able to be patched). Then when we had our first kid, my Prius sat in the garage for like a week. After that there was a small chunk missing from the front passenger seat and the airbag light was on. Fortunately I found another chunk missing out of the back seat and apparently they chewed through the curtain airbag wire assembly back there. Again, patched. Colleen H Posted May 31, 2021 Report Share Posted May 31, 2021 We have a 2013 CMAX and had a gross invasion of mouse droppings in our car during covid last year when we weren't driving it much. The mice ate through a major bunch of wires but my husband fixed the wires. Now, again, the droppings are back inside the car cabin, May 2021, even though we spray the engine once a week with peppermint diluted in water. We are now going to replace the air filter, and not looking forward to see what is behind there. Does anyone have experience with fixing where the mice come in? Miss415 Posted June 22, 2021 Report Share Posted June 22, 2021 Oh No! One of my clients has an electric BMW & recently had $9k in damage under the hood & they found a mice nest. I researched and found out that most car manufactures are using soy based products instead of petroleum based for hoses, wiring covers and other car components like interior parts/ plastics AND RODENTS FIND THEM TASTY. Client ended up getting another newer but used car (same make & model). She bought some tape made by Honda and had her mechanic (not the dealer) wrap all her hoses & wiring with it. She also puts moth balls under the hood & got a strobe light thing you put under hood and sprays peppermint. She checks daily and found mice dropping under hood of new car but no chewing -yet. I found this article called the Incredible Edible Car with a list of cars reported to have this issue. Cmax is not on the list though- yet. http://www.synlube.com/IncredibleEdibleCar1.htm I just found a dead animal under my hood yesterday and think it might be a cat.
