can you be locked out ?

if you leave the bag containing the FOB inside the car and then shut the door and press your finger on the door handle sensor, will it lock the doors or warn to tell you that you left the key inside the car?

The system is (supposed to be) smart enough to realize the fob is inside the vehicle and not allow a lock-out.  On the other hand, my wife insists she was locked out on one occasion and had to reach through an open window to let herself in.

My '13 SEL push start will unlock the doors and honk if it detects the key inside. Locking again at that point overrides the safety feature.

Now I know I'm not the brightest bulb in the box.

 

but  last night I pulled into the garage at home left the key fob with my work keys in the cup holder. and closed the door.  came back a couple hours later and opened up the tailgate to remove a parcel  and went back inside.

 

came out this morning to go to work and the doors were locked and the keys were inside.  Now my wife had used my car last week and the spare key fob was in her purse.

 

So its possible that the fob got hit while she was unloading groceries from her car..

 

 I had been cutting the grass on my tractor and I was worried that the keys were in my pocket and fell out some where in the lawn.

 

But  pretty bizzare.

I did it at the dealer's... and I didn't lock the car.

 

I pulled into the drop-off, put the fob in the cup holder, and left the car "on," figuring they'd be moving it soon. The car was in park, and empty.

 

It locked its doors. The dealer couldn't open it. Hilarious!

 

When the tech started pounding a wedge into the door frame, all the while holding a coat hanger-like device, I asked him to stop, and called my wife.
