MFT update to v3.8 has been released

Recommended Posts

This update is allegedly for all vehicles with Gen 2 MFT, at least per a post by the Ford Rep on the Fusion Hybrid forum, including 2013s that did not get the 3.7 update. Of course, the availability of the update, on owner.ford.com seems to be hit and miss, some seeing it and others showing their MFT is up to date. Looking at the C-Max Energi forum, it appears at least one person there with a 2013 had the update available and installed it without issue.

The update largely appears to be for Apple users, is allows Siri Eyes Free to work through the MFT system, as well as quicker connections to phones. The other update is better navigation in China; I'm guessing that won't be much of a concern for most here. ;)

Personally, I didn't show any update available and, when I checked, my MFT reports that my MFT version is only 3.5.1 -- it doesn't even show an update to 3.6.2. Anyone have any ideas what might be going on with that?

Someone posted the update to their dropbox, with the link available on that Fusion Hybrid thread -- at least one person claims to have verified it based on the file he downloaded (at least in terms of the file names and sizes), and at least three there claim to have successfully updated their 2013 vehicles (I think a couple of Fusion Hybrids, but also an Mkz). I have to say, it is tempting to try that update on my car.

Thanks for the heads up -- this is actually a very useful update to me (I'm firmly in the Apple family, and both my wife and I have iPhones).  I've downloaded it but since it takes 30 minutes for the update to install I'm a *little* hesitant to do it right now (30 minutes?  Yipes, that's a long time to leave the car running, even a hybrid.  I assume it won't start ICE in my garage just for this minimal power requirement, even though the car does need to be "running", but my old school mind kind of hates the idea of leaving my car operating there unattended for so long.  Heck, we were even taught to be careful when a car was in park and running because it could accidentally slip into gear.  What has the world come to?).

I ended up having a strange night last night and, as part of it, used the update linked from the Fusion Hybrid forum. My car is now updated, I really like the updates (since apparently I was coming from 3.5.1), and owner.ford.com now shows me on v3.8.

Hi raadsel,

I saw your PM in the other forum. If you have any issues with your MFT, please visit your dealership. I don't ever suggest performing updates that come from a source other than your Owners account.

My 2013 says it is up to date v3.6.2  updated aug of 2013

Hey homestead,

Currently, I'm sending VINs to my support to see why some of you are not seeing version 3.8. Please PM me your VIN when you get a chance so I can include yours.

I checked today and they are still trying to get my car on the update list. doesn't seem it should be that hard to put in a vin number.

Hopefully they are trying to fix the database so all the c-max owners can get the update, not just the lucky few here on the forum.

Thanks Rebecca.  I like what Ford is doing here on the forum.

Yes, thanks Rebecca! Appreciate you!

Awww, you two are making me blush! :)

Just an update: We're still investigating this. Please sit tight and I'll update everyone once I have more information.

Rebecca

My guess is that those whose 3/36 B2B warranty has expired are not eligible for the upgrade.  This is not a safety recall but Ford should make it available for all.  I'll bet Ford sees this as a cost issue as even if Ford offered it as a self-install for those with expired warranties, what happens if someone does a self-install and screws it up and has to have the issue sorted out by the dealer.  Who pays?  A manufacturer can't continue to provide software updates forever.

My C-Max is supposedly "up to date" with V3.6.2.  My 3/36 expired 22 k miles ago.

Don't think so, I only have 21k miles and 6 months left on warranty.

That's not the case at all, Plus 3 Golfer. The 3.8 update is for all MyFord Touch vehicles.  If you're not seeing it available on your Owner account, please send me your VIN in a private message so we can investigate why it's not showing for you. :)

VIN sent but how can such thing happen???  You need to impress on Ford that such mistakes reflect on Ford's internal controls system or lack thereof and likely why Ford receives below average ratings in initial build quality and reliability surveys.
