This is a first for any minivan, and it’s certainly about time. The hybrid Pacifica, which newly developed electric variable transmission uses two electric motors to drive the wheels and 16 kWh lithium ion battery pack, will achieve 30 miles on electric power before the engine kicks on to help. That car is going to be lucky to get 25 EV range, and I'd figure 20-22. It is too heavy for that size battery. The Tesla is 4600, it is true, but it also has a much larger battery, and no ICE, AND a lower frontal area. They will be exceptionally lucky to get 35 on the highway, like we do. I'll start the pool and say real world, City 35, Highway 32 (70 MPH), EV range in summer at 24. I don't think it will get that good. Maybe 25. Of course, it depends on temperature and load as well. My Energi gets about 25 in summer most days, and I'm 800 lbs lighter than this model. So maybe with careful driving it could get 30. But I'd expect less for most folks. EDIT: There is a bigger worry in my opinion. Is this the FIRST Chrysler hybrid, and this one is a plug in, as well? I wonder if Chrysler is using Fiat's EV tech coupled with the fact that car companies are starting to look at putting hybrid drive trains in vehicles that are not aerodynamic or small is also a step in the right direction. The Town and Country are still going to be built as a mini-van as long as a demand exists for it, according to FCA. The Pacifica is being offered as a cross between an SUV and a mini-van. It will be interesting to see how it does in real world testing...Yes, it will be interesting to say the least. The last heavy / bulky vehicle we got as a hybrid was the Chevy Pickup around 2008. Right on, man, nobody seems to know anything about the 2017 edition. They say some folks spotted it somewhere in Mexico (allegedly production moved there recently), but other than that no legic info anywhere. Wonder why you say that about the solar array, though?
