Anyway, I was wondering about aftermarket tinting. Since it sounds like you've done it before, does it hold up well? I've seen so many cars with horrible looking tinting, and I don't want that. But I would like to tint my windows. Sharon I just got 3M Crystalline tint on mine. Will know more once the summer comes, but from my research it's one of the best when it comes to actual heat rejection. I have tint on my Explorer for 14 years (don't know the kind because my parents had it done), but it still looks like the day it was put on. Cheap films only darken the windows, good films have high heat (Solar Energy Rejection) and more importantly high UV (Ultraviolet Ray Protection) rejection numbers... The specifications for the FormulaOne films can be found Here, click on Product Specs in the upper right hand corner. The Pinnacle 35% I use has the following specifications: Visible Light Transmission 39% Total Solar Energy Rejection 54% Ultraviolet Ray Protection 99.5% Glare Reduction 57% Visible Light Reflection 7% The 3M Ceramic CM40 film I would have to use here compares fairly closely, since I used a 35% I'm right between the CM30 and CM 40. If I had went with a darker tint I could have had higher numbers but it would not be street legal, 35% is the maximum allowed for front door windows. Here it is illegal to tint your windshield except for a strip across the top, 6 or 8 inches I think, so I didn't bother with it... Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mtb9153 Posted August 29, 2014 Report Share Posted August 29, 2014 (edited) All, As I mentioned in another thread I had ordered Body Side Moldings (BSM) for the C-Max. I ordered color matched ChromeLine moldings from SportWing. As usual the color match is spot on and they were easy to install. Being lazy, and it is cool here, I had a local body shop install them this morning. Last week I took the car in and had the windows tinted, excluding the windshield, but including the panoramic roof, with Formula One Pinnacle Ceramic window tint. I went with a 35% tint to keep it legal... The reduction in glare is unbelievable, and I know from past experience it will keep the car several degrees cooler in the summer. Here are a few photos showing how it turned out... I still have the Ford front splash guards and "vent visors" to install, hopefully I'll get those done this weekend if it warms up... EDIT NOTE: I just added the fourth picture....Just installed my platinum white molding on the sides of Maxus, looks real nice and color matches perfectly. Very pleased with the look, now if it just stops a door ding from one of these ignorant so and so's in the south bay? It will be worth the cost. Clowns around here can NOT drive or park worth a damn. I park far away from everyone else in lots just to avoid idiots opening their car doors into me. My other car is a plastic Saturn and I still park away just to avoid possible paint chips. I'll be getting window tint done hopefully this weekend and I'll report back. I received the "Mother" of all door dings in a parking lot in Raleigh, NC. I parked far away from everyone else and I was only in the store for a fewminutes.. This woman had thrown her door open and it was jammed so hard into my door that she could not pull it back off!! I was able to pry it off but it left a horrible scar.
