I figured with the traction battery this thing shouldn't have dead battery problems. Guess not. Anyways, I've been charging my battery for like half an hour and no signs of progress. plus 3 golfer Posted June 29, 2016 Report Share Posted June 29, 2016 Jump start with another vehicle. Leave in ready to drive mode. HVB via the DC-DC converter will charge the 12 V battery. If HVB gets low, ICE will start. Turn off all accessories. You can drive the car if you desire. I'd leave in ready to drive mode for a couple of hours. My experience with a "dead" C-Max battery has been no electrical activity at all, no lights, nothing. I use a small lithium battery jumper which so far has work fine for the last 2 dead battery situations I have had. Being that your electric seats work, I wonder if there is some problem other than the battery. Are you able to measure the voltage of the battery ? My car also has had this odd sulphuric smell since I got it, and I think that is because the battery might be weak. Anything specific? C-Max has positive post and ground post under the hood. Search for pics of posts if not familiar with the location of the posts. Start C-Max normally with push button. If you don't get "ready to drive" message, then there is likely something other than the 12 V battery wrong with car. When my 12 V battery wouldn't hold a charge, I started my car by jump starting. I then drove it to the dealer for replacement. If you have the rotten egg smell, the battery may have an internal short, overheating, and venting. Not good as sulfuric acid can cause damage. The battery is located under the floor of the hatch area. Lift up the cover for the small storage area in the hatch. You then can pull out the floor cover of the storage area to see the battery. Normally when a max is being jumped by another car, when connected many of the electronics also work? Will any old 12v battery do as a replacement? Are you saying jump starting your C-Max doesn't work? or that charging with battery charger isn't working? You need to make sure the replacement 12 V battery fits into the space if you are not replacing with OE battery. The service manual also implies that the BCM needs to be reset when a new battery is installed (see my link above). I got the car working again, but this incident made me think maybe I should replace the 12v just to be safe. The car is about four years old now, which is about the life of the 12v? ptjones Posted June 30, 2016 Report Share Posted June 30, 2016 I looked into this a few years ago and 2013 OM has wrong part# for battery and I looked to see if there was a larger replacement 12v battery and there wasn't one that would fit. ;) Here are some pics of battery compartment. WNY Posted July 1, 2016 Report Share Posted July 1, 2016 what type of charger (Amp Rating?) are you using? the smaller ones are only 1-2 amps or less, if the battery is really low, it could take many hours to get it up to a nominal voltage for the car to turn on. some of the interior lights may work, since LED's don't require much energy to come on, but other accessories or the relay to turn on the HV battery to start the car may not work until you reach a certain charge voltage. A fully charged battery should have 12.7-13.2 volts. it will charge higher than that usually 13.5-14.5 volts. if the battery has been discharged below a certain amount, it could get damaged internally or have a bad cell, and it will never hold a good charge or even charge up.Dealership had replaced mine when I bought the car last Aug, its a 2013 and never had a battery problem.
