Hi, everyone, fantastic forum, thanks for the add. just bought a 2013 se to replaced my old jetta TDI, we would love to have the energi, but the 4k premium difference with the hybrid, makes it a no go, hope to get at least the same MPG as my old diesel, but a little cleaner on the planet.

Welcome, don't know what you were getting with your Jetta TDI assume 44-47mpg. If you use Grill Covers and Oil Pan Heater you can get close to that this time of year. :)

I just turned in 2 VW diesels. The C-Max is getting pretty much the same average mileage as our '13 Passat except it is much better in the city and worse on the highway. Way less drama with servicing, and parts are significantly cheaper.

I guess you looked into the tax credits on the Energi, that you wouldn't be able to use them. If you can use the tax credits -- and particularly in your state has some type of credit or rebate program, the Energi can end up cheaper than the Hybrid.

Thanks everyone, for now I am in love with my C-max :wub2:

On my first tank, I did 32mpg, but it's freezing cold and don't have LRR tire, they put some Chinese winter on the car :nonono:

up here state credit don't apply to used car, don't know if it's different down there?

You could expect 2-4 mpg improvement with Michelin Energy Savers and cover up those grills. ASAP :)

Maybe, maybe not. Remember, he's in Montreal, where it's a good deal colder than on this side of the Great Lakes.

Porter Fuelly Track.jpg

I had tanks on the 30 range, with grill blocks and LRR tires, during a cold winter of highway driving. Mileage got better the following winter, driving back roads at lower speed.

Note that I didn't see any change in mileage switching from EOM to Michelin snows. However the snows are "extended load" with a 99 load rating, much greater than the 93 rating required by Ford. If his snows are similarly reinforced, they may also have lower than expected RR.

Still, it's not bad advice...

Frank

The price premium for the Energi tends to disappear with age; with careful searching you can find a three or four year old Energi for about the same price as an SEL.  Here is one for example in your province.

I wanted an Energi initially but the extra $5K and the astonishing trunk size were deal breakers.    Even with the Hybrid, we often have to put groceries in the footwells or between our kids on the back seat.  Maybe not an issue if you're 1 or 2.
