Traded in my 13 C-max for a 16. At about 7,000 miles it developed a strong thumping noise when going over even modest bumps. Never had that in the 13. The dealer said it is normal but I don't think so. Feels like something loose/broken in rear suspension. Any ideas? Any related TSBs?

No such noise on my '16! Take the dealer for a drive in your car, and then in another C-Max they have on the lot to prove it is not normal.

Try taking it to another dealer.
