With the hatch closed, six feet is in the middle of the front arm rest and eight feet almost touches the center console in the dash. You could probably fit 10 foot lumber in diagonally, but it would be laying on top of the dash. Best way to see for yourself is to take a tape measure to the nearest dealer with one on the lot. I went for a small test drive last week end but forgot my tape measure.I liked the relative quietness of the car, but felt it was a little bit shorter in length and width than I expected from seeing pictures/reviews online. Then my wife wanted to check out the new Fusion. Beautiful car I have to admit. However not nearly as practical with no hatch (especially the smaller trunk on the hybrid Fusion). dtorres Posted December 14, 2012 Report Share Posted December 14, 2012 (edited) In my old Escape I'd run 8' boards all the time along the center of the vehicle with the fronts on the dash. But on the C-max the center dash bulges outward and is made of speaker grill looking plastic. I'm afraid to put the weight of lumber on the center dash thinking it may crack the plastic piece.
