I have regular issues with the door not sensing my touch for either locking or unlocking. I've also had issues where touch will only lock and not unlock. Other times it works great. JohnTrigger Posted January 12, 2013 Report Share Posted January 12, 2013 I haven't had any problems. I'll through out a few suggestions that you may or may not have tried. Make sure your key is not in same pocket as cell phone (interference). You have to grab the handle for a fraction of a second before you pull it to unlock, and make sure you are not grabbing the handle when pushing the little "fingerprint" lock area. redbeard37 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

No matter how close I was or where my hand was, it wouldn't unlock. I had to grab one of the front doors to unlock it. Each time I check it again once I close the door back and it works as it should have in the beginning. My wife's 2013 Escape does the same exact thing too. On my Tahoe I have settings like put in reverse doors auto lock, once speed hits a certain mph the doors lock, put in park all doors unlock. I can change these settings. MichaelM Posted January 13, 2013 Report Share Posted January 13, 2013 (edited) I have had several times when the touch unlock feature did not work, and I grabbed the handle over and over trying to get it to unlock to no avail. I also had it where the I locked the door using the inside lock button and then closed the door, only to hear it unlock as I started to walk away. I drove me a bit nuts. I posted a question about it and received great advice that caused me to do some experimentation. I found that the unlock feature appears to matter which pocket I carry the fob in and which hand I reach out to the handle. Sounds weird I know, but I'm a wide guy and if reaching out with my right hand and carrying the fob in my left pocket it could well be near the 3 feet that the system requires, depending on the way my body is facing toward the car. Since I thought about this I have made effort to be more careful of my body's orientation, and not had a failure to unlock or behave as expected in a week. Battery level of the fob may also play some minor role. C-MaxJaxon Posted January 13, 2013 Report Share Posted January 13, 2013 The way I always unlock is to put my hand straight down with my fingers straight. It unlocks almost every time that way. I was using a thumb to lock the doors, but I discovered I can press a lightly clenched fist against the sensor and it will lock almost every time. Bob999 Posted January 13, 2013 Report Share Posted January 13, 2013 Given it is winter in much of the US I wonder of some of the problems are caused by wearing gloves when trying to use the sensors on the outside door handle.
