  1. I took this shot today to post on the 50+ mpg trips forum, but it also shows how my MyView is set up. When you go into the Empower and Engage section of the left screen, keep scrolling down till you get to the MyView, then press to the right and you can pick the view you want there. I took that shot because I got a short 95.5 mpg trip (probably 3 miles of that trip was on a road that was a nice long downhill slope), posted it to the 50+ mpg trip forum and some guy said it didn't count because it was only one way. The 50.3 mpg average above is over 10 days and about 300 miles, so I kind of did your drive around for a few days and reset before measuring idea on that average. The tank of gas I'm on now is the same tank that the dealer gave me, I haven't been to a gas station yet and I bought the car 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I still have maybe 1/3 of a tank of gas left. So all my averages and mileages are from the car's computer, I haven't filled up yet to get any hard numbers to calculate!!! I posted on the 600 mile tank forum too, long story short even though I reset my trip gauges after driving my car for 37 miles I may still be able to hit a 600 mile tank on my first tank. If the 50.3 holds, in theory I could still hit 617 on my trip gauge. (would be 654 if I didn't reset the gauges but oh well...) One other thing, the weather's been decent here in NJ. It's rained a lot over the past couple days but the temperature has been between 50 - 80 since I bought the car, outside of a trip with the girlfriend where she required AC, I haven't had to use the climate controls much.
  2. Ha! No, no charger port, even if there was that would only be more impressive dragging around that extra 300 pounds since there is no source of power in my garage. (I live in an apartment, I'm lucky I have a garage at all) I did some math. I have 445 miles on my car and there were 40 on it when I drove off the lot with a full tank, my trip gauge says 368 miles (should be 405, so I drove 37 miles on the tank before resetting the trip gauge). My estimate to empty says 212 miles so you would think that would strand me at 580 miles, HOWEVER, I suspect the estimate to empty goes off the lifetime average which is currently at 42.8 mpg. (when I drove off the lot it said 19! and no, I'm not resetting it, lifetime is lifetime to me) I took a picture of my average mileage over the last 300 or so miles (up on the 50+ mpg trips forum) and it shows 50.3. So when I did the math, 212 / 42.8 * 50.3 I got 249 miles! 368 + 249 = 617!!! (and should be 654!) I did some more math and figured I only have to average 46.8 mpg for the rest of my tank to hit 600 total. I'm tempted, but I don't know, I don't want to run out of gas like a dope... Does anyone know for sure whether the estimate to empty is based off of the lifetime average???
  3. So there was a comment about how my 95.5 mpg trip didn't count because it wasn't a round trip, so take a look at the image below: There is about 300 miles of driving over 10 days in that average, so does that count as a 50+ mpg trip??? I could always drive for another couple weeks and take another picture if that is not sufficient. :)
  4. I'm so glad I stumbled on this thread! Your tips are in line with what I've discovered myself about my car and I even had the same My View as you. I started out with just the coach and did everything I could to keep the bars full, but then I was noticing how the car reacted different depending on how the full the battery was and I couldn't figure out why. Eventually I played around with the gauges until i found the Empower mode, drove with that for a while before I figured out that I could customize the My View with both the Empower and Coach, and that has been my setting ever since. I've really gotten a feel for my route to and from work, while it doesn't always play out the way I want every day I've been figuring out better ways to traverse different sections of road maintaining my speed and charging my battery. I also look much further down the road then I ever have. I've gotten more comfortable with the engine running, as Riddley said I'm happy as long as I see EV or ^. The only thing I haven't tried yet is inflating the tires to a higher pressure, not sure I'm willing to trade off wearing down expensive 17" tires for another mile and a half per gallon. With a little less than a half a tank left on my very first tank of gas I seem to have settled in around 49 mpg, I really can't complain about that!
  5. I feel like I've found a little bit of a sweet spot where the car is accelerating at a decent rate on the ICE without the acceleration coach giving me a worse score. My fuel economy for this tank is settling in right around 49 mpg, which I'm very happy with! In addition to how much more attention I pay to how the car is behaving, I also pay much more attention to the road! I've never noticed before just how hilly it is here in New Jersey, I seriously don't think there is a flat section of road on my way to or from work! After a couple weeks with the new car I've figured out how to better handle different sections of the road to keep my speed up and maintain my mileage. I never paid this much attention to my driving before, so absolutely this car has changed how I drive.
  6. Due to what I'll call "unforeseen events" I will never be able to prove this, but I absolutely could hit 600 miles on my first tank of gas! I've put about 400 miles on the car since I got it and the estimate till empty said 213 miles when I got home today The reason I won't be able to prove it is I got a full tank at the dealer when I picked up the car and in my excitement I hopped in the car and drove about 10 miles on my way home, drove to my parents house and back (another 25 or so miles), and when I got home I reset both trip 1 & trip 2 not thinking I might set a record on fordcmaxhybridforum.com. If I had only known! My trip gauge has settled in about 48-49 mpg so if I really went to empty I might be able to pull it off, but I don't think I'm that brave... Oh well, I should have no problem blowing that away on my second tank of gas! (just might take me another month or so to drive that far)
  7. The return trip was a little further because we went a different way trying to avoid going uphill the whole way, I think it was 5.3 miles but I'm not 100% sure.
  8. What do I win for this? Granted it was a short trip and it seemed to be mostly downhill, but damn! I bet if I tried again and a few things went a little different I could top 100! Return trip was 38.5 mpg.
  9. So is the coach not always accurate? It makes sense that the ICE being on less delivers better FE but going to higher revs to accelerate faster might still consumer more gas... I'd be interested to see a study on this.
  10. Oh you are so right fotomoto! When you are one of the fast drivers you only notice the cars that are going slow and get in your way, now that I am the slow car I'm noticing just how many people drive fast and aggressive!
  11. For me it's been a huge difference! I went from being a relatively aggressive left lane driver to a relatively calm right lane driver. I have been slowly calming down for a long time, but the switch from a 'dumb' car that got 30 mpg no matter how I drove it to a 'smart' car that actually gave me data about my driving and told me how to drive better has gotten the engineer in me interested, then throw in my competitive nature and that's a dangerous combination! I'm curious, the acceleration coach gives me good scores when I accelerate very slowly but I've heard people say to accelerate faster to get up to your speed and back into EV mode. (therefore spending less time with the ICE on) What works best for everyone here? Thanks!
  12. Hello all, just got my C-Max SE last week and I have been loving it! I'm not doing anything special to get my mileage, just following the coach and keeping my highway speeds at or below 65 mph. The image is of a trip to work this past week, I had a better trip at 71.7 mpg but couldn't get my camera app up in time before the screen went blank. (I'm also going on the 999.9 mpg reading when I pulled the car into the garage after unloading the groceries doesn't count) My lifetime average just topped 40 mpg (up from under 20 when I got it), which is great because I only have 250 miles on the car and I got it with 40 miles. My tank mpg is at 47.3 partly because I've been showing it off to my friends and family and gunning it to demonstrate just how much power my hybrid has! I think I should have no problem getting a 50 mpg tank average and a 600 mile tank the way things are going once the car breaks in. Although, I must admit the weather has been just about perfect here this last week so maybe not...
