  1. I don't have any recent pictures and I just filled up last week so it'll be 3-4 weeks until I can get a fresh tank on here. (I'll be away next week on vacation so no miles that week) Can I enter a picture of my Trip 2? I use Trip 2 to track mileage between oil changes, so once I reset it around the middle of May after I got the car I haven't touched it, should be over 1,800 miles now and last I checked my average was 50.3 mpg. (very similar to my fuelly) My current tank has about 150 miles on it and is at 52.2 mpg. When I pull into work tomorrow it will up near 54, by the time I get over 500 it should be somewhere in the high 52's to low 53's. That is assuming we don't have any heat waves, heavy rain, or I take the highway too much. Interestingly I've gone back to taking the highway home from work because it saves me time and my average mpg for the trip home is about the same whether I take surface streets or the highway, so my 52-53 includes about 5 miles of 65+ per work day. So once I get the update I have a good chance of hitting 54-55 mpg and breaking the 700 mile tank barrier! Oh crap, that reminds me that Ford will have my car on Wednesday, that won't help my mpg cause... Oh well, my next tank should be a record breaker! (hopefully)
  2. Based on what I've heard with the new PCM update, I should have a shot at joining the 700 mile club. (assuming no heat waves hit and I don't do too much freeway driving) I go Wednesday, so not sure if I'll make it on this tank or have to wait till my next. It might be a while, at the end of next week I will have had the car 3 months and have only filled up 3 times, I used to fill up 3 times a month! Granted, I was away for a week and have worked from home more then usual, it's still crazy!
  3. SDM, when you are accelerating and there is traffic ahead of you, start off in EV and let the traffic get ahead of you enough before you punch it to 2 bars. You should get up to speed before you catch up to them assuming there isn't too much traffic. If you are hitting that many lights one after the other then the 2 bar pulse might not work for those areas, your 1 bar is probably the best bet. I'm not getting the MPG that Jus is, but I have the same basic strategy. I accelerate to 10-15 mph in EV or until the traffic ahead of me is far enough to give it a 2 bar pulse up to the speed limit + 5 mph, glide in EV as long as I can keep it above the speed limit (or even with traffic) before pulsing again. On my way to work I have a highway I can pulse up to 55 mph and keep above 50 mph in EV for about 4 miles before having to give it another pulse. (slight downhill the whole way, I pay for it coming home!) I also play the hills, some I can accelerate a few extra mph in EV before I get to the hill to just coast over it. If it is a bigger hill I will give it a good pulse going up, I will try to glide on any plateaus, but if not I just pulse right to where I can coast over the top of the hill. I was averaging 53.4 mpg for the first half of my last tank of gas, but then I had to run the air for a solid week and I ended up doing a fair amount of highway driving (65 mph+) so my final for the tank was 50.3 mpg, I think I lost 5% of my mpg to the AC.
  4. IMHO, gas pumps are always going to tell you they give you more gas then they actually do, they make extra money and they are rarely caught. I live in NJ where you are not allowed to pump your own gas and I worked for a gas station when I was in high school, they got caught twice with bad pumps while I was there and I think it was a $500 fine. (which they probably made up in a week of overcharging the customers) I trust my car far more than any gas station pump.

I'm glad to hear the update is having its desired effect! My only question now is why didn't the car have these settings from the start??? (they all seem like pretty obvious things to do for better mpg)
  6. Ok, I called again and had to convince them that this was a software update, she had to ask her manager about it and he confirmed that there were no 'parts'. My appointment is Wednesday at 11 am EST, hopefully they get it right. I have the 13C02 recall as well, but they don't have those 'parts' either so I'll have to go back for that, not waiting for them to get my 13B07!!!
  7. I called my dealer today about the update and they told me they didn't have the "parts" for the update and that I would get a letter when they had them. Is this not a software update???
  8. They do have an acceleration score, and a cruise score as well. Flip through your options and you'll find all sorts of useful information, including the coach which is what I am referencing. My screen is set up in the 'My View' with the Power + Threshold and Coach screens. To answer the poll question, I don't know... I go back and forth with it. My car would easily pass the EPA highway test with better than a 47 mpg rating, but that doesn't reflect real life freeway driving. My only semi-big trip on a freeway at freeway speeds I got 43 mpg, so in real work situations it is not a 47 mpg car on the freeway. I also think it is tough to qualify that for a hybrid like the C-Max which is capable of speeds of up to 62 mph in EV when the 'highway' test only hits 60. The electric motor assists at freeway speeds but the ICE is always on, still the 43 mpg I'm getting with my C-Max is much better than the 34 mpg I got with my old Corolla on the freeway.
  9. I wanted to add this image to my review, it shows my trip home from work. As you can see, I never top 55 mph with the majority of my driving below that speed. My commute is very similar to the way the EPA gets its highway fuel economy, which is why I get better than the 47/47/47. Going to work I had been in the 65-70 mpg range but a recent tweet to my route has me in the 70-73 mpg range, coming home has been consistently 45 mpg +/- 1 or 2 mpg. My current tank is at 53.4 mpg. I got this image online from Progressive, I have the Progressive Snapshot device which tracks your trips and rates your driving. You can get up to a 30% discount by letting them track your driving for 30 days and I got a 26% discount! If I keep the device in for 6 months that discount will become permanent.

  11. Your small print cannot stop me from seeing your post! :spend: I just reported what I was reading, if you want to continue to put premium in your tank that is your right, but I'm managing just fine on regular. I've had 3.5.1 from the start and since I got the car on May 11th it has been warm, combine that with my conservative driving style and IMHO that is what has gotten me my MPG.
  12. On my last tank I burned 12.60 gallons and I had no gas left according to my tank, there wasn't anything showing above the red "E". Adair burned 13.21 gallons and still had something left??? (according to the gauge anyway) Weird...
  13. On my commute to work I take a 'V' shape route to get out to a local highway, my apartment is at one end of the V and I make a sharp left turn on another road that is almost parallel to my street. I must leave the EV+ area and come back into it because I get an EV+ on my way to work almost every day. On my way home, EV+ ends up turning on about 0.7 miles from when I stop (the length of the V), luckily the first leg is mostly flat and the second is a slight downhill so I actually end up with a good amount of battery left at the end of my trip despite the length of time I'm in EV+.
  14. Just as a side note, my personal best trip to work ended up at 78% EV, Jus averaged better than that over his 833 mile tank. That's sick... I only managed that high of an EV% because there is an elevation drop from my home to work, that means that Jus must have figured out a way drive downhill both directions! :redcard: There is no other explanation! :stirpot:
  15. Not quite up to Jus's lofty standards, but I set a new personal record for my commute to work this morning. I made a slight change to my route and after averaging 65-70 mpg the past month or so, my past 3 days have been 71.6, 70.2, and 72.4. My ride home is still in the 45-50 range even with the adjusted route, so not much I can do about that. I've been doing better overall as well, I went from 48.9 mpg for the first tank to 51.3 for the second, and so far 53.4 mpg for the third. (just under 200 miles) That's still shy of a 700 mile tank and my miles to empty backs that up, if I keep this up I should end around 680 miles for this tank. Edit: Lifetime is also up to 48 mpg after I picked up the car at 19 mpg with 40 miles on it. I have not reset the lifetime average.
  16. Jus, you know you're the reason they were forced to increase the tax on gas right? You're not using enough of it! Lol! :happy feet:
  17. I still think I fall in between but I'm definitely moving in the direction of a hyper-miler. With that said, my driving is night & day from what it was before. Before my goal was always to get wherever I was going as fast as possible, I was constantly tense, I didn't like driving, and I despised most other drivers. I would step on the gas as soon as the light turned green and slam on the brakes at the last second before the next red light. Now I'm the relaxed guy who drives the speed limit in the right lane and couldn't care less about other drivers, and the best part is I actually enjoy driving again! I mostly accelerate at no more than the 2nd mark on the power gauge and brake well in advance to get maximum regen. I admit I do occasionally step on it, this car is too much fun to drive not to! Overall I think I am a safer driver, I feel like I pay too much attention to the gauges which distracts me from the road, but my speed, acceleration, and attitude have improved so much that overall I have to be a safer driver. I am getting better with watching the gauges, this is my first hybrid so there has definitely been a learning curve. I've had the car for a little over 8 weeks now and I've gotten to the point that I think I have a pretty good feel for it, so I'm using the gauges less and less as I know what the car is going to do without them. It is very hard though coming from a car that gave you nothing to a car that tells you so much!
  18. First I want to say that looks amazing! I would buy that just for the look, the extra mpg would just be a bonus. I have some questions about it: Wouldn't you need to create two sets of grills, one for winter and one for summer? Do you think a cover over the fog lights would be beneficial? Do you think a modification like this void your warranty? I can't wait to see the rest of your work!
  19. I don't think it's useless, it tells a story. I think the extra time helps him get his mileage, if he is constantly accelerating & braking the average speed (not counting when he's stopped at a light or sitting in a parking lot) is lower than you'd think. My commute is long periods of steady speed, think of a bell curve with a long flat line at the peak, Jus's 'flat line' is probably significantly shorter, thus average speed while moving is significantly lower. Just off the top of my head my average commute to work I come to a full stop 3 or 4 times and slow down to turn 9-10 times over 12.5 miles. I don't know the distance Jus drives on his daily commute, but I bet he comes to a full stop a lot more often then I do, thus gets more regeneration and his average speed is lower. You can see his EV distance is almost 80% of his total distance while my 647 mile tank was 65%, looking at the 600+ mile per tank list most of the others are significantly less than both of us. Edit: Jus also gets ridiculous regeneration rates, easily double my personal best. That can only mean more braking and more stopping, thus lower average speed. Edit 2: It's a shame the trip odometers don't show the regen sum for their duration, without going searching for a post I would bet that Jus gets 10% of his miles from regen alone.
  20. I did try the 'avoid highways' option, but it seems to only consider 'freeways' with 65 mph speed limits to be highways. It is still trying to send me down a local highway where the speed limit is 50 and people give you the bird if you are not at least doing 60. I found a 40 mph and less route that avoids the bad areas around here, but it is a zig-zagging route that adds 15 minutes to my 20-25 minute commute and I'm not sure I'm ok with that. I do get 67-72 mpg on my commute to work, so maybe I'll try it coming home for a few days and see what happens. I 'only' get 42-47 mpg on my trip home.
  21. I'm working on plotting out an all side street, <=40 mph course to work, but I'm not sure it exists without driving through a few crappy towns I'd rather avoid though. If I come up with a route it will take me at least a month to hit 7-800 miles, I'm going to be away for a week on a business trip to Houston so that's a 0 mile week for me. Plus, I've been working from home a lot lately so it'll be that much longer... I'll give it a try for a few days to see if I can keep my mileage up enough to hit those marks. Edit: I figured out a route, not sure if I'm going to be able to keep it up though, it's a 40 minute ride according to Google and my normal route is 25 minutes. I'll give it a try and see what happens.
  22. ScubaDadMiami got it on his first tank. I would have had it on my first tank but the dealer didn't reset the trip gauges and I drove around for 37 miles before resetting the trip gauges, so I 'officially' ended my first tank at 570 miles. (even though I actually drove 607 miles before filling up the first time) I got my car on May 11th and I just filled up for the second time today, that's amazing!
  23. Jus, curious why your time is so high? Do you sit in a lot of traffic? I just finished my tank, 647 miles and my time was 25 hours 20 minutes, you have 145 miles on me but also 13 more hours...
