  1. Was well on my way to my 2nd 600 tank but I didn't think I could make it to Toronto from Detroit so I filled up at the border. Turns out, conditions were good enough to get 51mpg when I filled up again in Toronto. The C-Max used less gas than indicated on the dashboard.
  2. Is this a standard 2012+ Focus mini spare? I've seen one on Ebay that I'm thinking about buying.
  3. Unless you're driving a police unit, I doubt any consumer tire is designed to withstand a curb hit at speed. I have to drive up a curb to park in Toronto. Haven't had any issues with the C-Max vs. the Speed3 creeping up the curb.
  4. Like what salsaguy said it is probably dependent on driving style, weather, and type/speed roads you drive. My last 8 fuel ups have been in the low to mid 40s since the weather warmed up. It dropped to 38.9 when the weather cooled to low 40s for a few days. 2nd biggest hit in my mileage is using the highway. Since I drive to Toronto every weekend usually drop to low 40s or high 30s. I offset with city driving in my work commute where I average in the mid 50s.
  5. Definitely second better stitching feel and appearance on the steering wheel. You use it all time and it would have an immediate impact on feeling of quality. Also would like to achieve sustained high mpg at higher speed on the freeway driving over 65.
  6. Is this all done on non highway with speed limits less than 55?
  7. I've only recently seen 3 different C-maxs while driving to Toronto on the 401 this past month or so
  8. Forgot to take a picture before I did a partial fill up but finally managed to scrape a 600 tank. I was so close to being able to drive from Detroit and Toronto in one tank + sightseeing miles during the weekend.
  9. I forgot to note that I started this just recently and it seems to have made the difference and variance a little better
  10. Also have to take into account variations at the pump when you fill. I've been gassing up only in the morning and filling at the first notch of the pump trigger and only 2 clicks to try to keep it consistent. And still get more or less actual fuel use differences between the computer and pump. I don't know if there is any vehicle that would display the exact amount every time.
  11. I've been trying to find this high ICE sweet spot on my drives up highway 401 up to Toronto. I haven't had much luck yet. I'm able to fill up the battery to full on hills but when the road levels out the electric motor is continually used until the battery drains to near 75%. MPG is at 60mpg or so until the battery reaches 75% then it dips down to 40-38 range.
  12. I think another thing that's skewing the fuelly stats is that a lot of C-Max drivers are completely new to driving a hybrid vehicle like me. I've been learning and changing the way I drive whenever I'm in the C-Max. Where before I was struggling to break 40MPG with every fillup, my last 9 fill-ups have been over 40MPG and I've hit 47MPG twice.
  13. With a dedicated set of winter tires, just about any car will be able to handle winter well. You'd only run into problems the roads aren't plowed and the depth of the snow is ridiculous. With the stock Michelins I haven't had any problems with the spring rain we've been experiencing in Michigan and Ontario.
  14. Hmm that's interesting, I forgot about that episode on Mythbusters. Maybe the effect is different at +65mph, because I'm driving well enough away so I don't think it can be directly considered as drafting. Minimum distance is probably 50ft but that's if the semi-decelerates more quickly than anticipated.
  15. Highway 402 by Raepix, on Flickr Anybody know how much drag the C-Max is rated at? The one of the biggest effects on highway driving I've seen is following a vehicle ahead. Not necessarily drafting but driving within 3 - 4 second gap behind a larger car or a semi. This was on the 402 on the way to Toronto with ambient temperature at 42F. Drove at ECO cruise set to 64-66MPH following traffic.
  16. Is the iphone listed as a compatible/supported phone by MFT? I had an N900 that I replaced with an S3. I remember seeing a phone compatability chart for MFT. I replaced my phone based phone compatibility.
  17. My favorite feature has to be being able to connect my macbook through bluetooth and stream the audio into the car to watch movies on long road trips.
  18. It's not a problem of Ford misleading people and "falsely" advertising their MPG. The problem is the highway routine used for the EPA test doesn't reflect how people drive on the highway in the real world. If you looked up some of the threads that were started showing the EPA test routine, it's easy for me to see that I don't drive anything like that at all on the highway. For example, I recently drove to Texas from Michigan for the Thanksgiving holiday. I drove pretty much 100% highway at a sustained speed probably close to 65 or 70 often driving the entire tank without stopping. My worst fill up was 32MPG (75MPH - 80MPH Texas highways) and 39MPG (65MPH and hilly highways outside of Texas). But if you look at my daily commute, due to traffic as well as the drive to enter the highway my top speed is probably 70MPH but not sustained with a lot of slow downs and an average speed probably closer to 50MPH my mileage is a lot better as shown below. My daily commute is probably more in-line with the EPA highway test. I hope the EPA investigates the C-Max. Because it'll probably show that it's rated right in line with the EPA test and hopefully it'll help push to update their tests for highway testing so it can more realistically reflect what extended highway driving mileage you should expect.
  19. Wow, did you take a picture of the panel problem area?
  20. Is the leather trim in the C-Max even real leather? I have my doubts that it is actual leather and not some synthetic material. When I first saw this thread I thought it was going to refer to the stitching on the leather steering wheel. It is rough and coarse and detracts from the soft upscale feel of the leather wrapped wheel.
  21. While cheap and easy extra MPG would be pretty cool. I would be bothered by the look of the tape at the front just because I get nit picky with small details and I'm sure my girl friend would hate it as well.
  22. Recorded some of the results from my commute to and from work. Pretty much the same traffic conditions for the trip to work while the trip from work usually has slightly heavier traffic. Top speed I usually drive is 67MPH but it fluctuates from 55MPH to 65MPH based on the elevation changes of the highway. My commute is probably 15% city and the rest highway. I try to drive with constant throttle position at 1.5 bars on the "empower" screen but increase it to 2 bars to prevent speed from dropping too much on uphills. I try to maximize the charge as much as possible on the highway using only the gas engine. Then use the entire charge for EV mode once I exit the highway and complete the final leg of the commute. Commute to work ambient temp. 53F Commute from work ambient temp. 47F Commute to work ambient temp. 29F Commute from work ambient temp. 37F
  23. I forgot to clarify that this only occurs on the Sirius favorites and switching modes usually resets it but then it just happens again after the car is turned off etc. Really only a minor annoyance but should be an easy fix with a software update.
