Capless tank, any possible problems with topping off?
RedLdr1 replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Lounge: Off-Topic
No more than in any other car... I have found I can add a half gallon after the pump kicks off in both the C-Max and my SHO which is a different variant of "cap less"... -
Since the car I traded was a Sonata hybrid, and I had owned another hybrid, I was already "trained" in , or at least aware of, most techniques. Even so the "feedback", like the Brake Coach and the "Engage" view, from the C-Max is helping me get better at my driving techniques. I can swap cars with my wife and get 3-4MPG better than her in the SHO because the techniques move with me...

Body Side Moldings And Tinted Glass
RedLdr1 replied to RedLdr1's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Yes, everything except the windshield was tinted. I had them use a legal 35% tint so looking out is like wearing very good sunglasses. At night the stars are definitely "muted" but the moon and street lights are easy to see. -

Manufacturer Part No: CF-FOCUS084DR for the ChromeLine version I used. If you want the ones without the ChromeLine Strip change the first two letters from CF to FE... -
Unfortunately those locking caps / plugs do not fit the C-Max. I have one sitting on a shelf in my garage I had used on my 2010 Flex that I thought I could reuse. The C-Max has a really weird filler and neck, that is why Ford supplied a funnel in case you ever need to add fuel from a gas can....

I leave an iPod, cellphone chargers, and occasionally a camera battery charger plugged in with no issues...

Zero Electrons Moving in my new C-Max
RedLdr1 replied to BigJim's topic in Maintenance, TSB's & Recalls
BigJim, I had the bad IP... The symptoms were similar to yours, nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, worked until it was jumped off then everything looked normal... That is a problem in its self as a car that requires jump starting should at least have a Low Battery warning... And the bad IP did not "throw" any codes for the tech's diagnostic system to display. The good news is I have not had a single issue, of any type, since the IP was replaced...:D -
No, I suspect my wife thinks 1 is "Off" with the leather seats... ;) She usually sets her controller to 3 on chilly mornings and then turns it down as the car warms up.

"Most vehicles' real-world gas mileage is less than the EPA sticker number, and can often be 20 percent less than the sticker number depending on speed, temperature and other factors. With hybrids, however, the gap is much wider — as high as a 30 percent drop, the EPA says. And as the fuel efficiency of hybrids continues to climb, the gap is growing wider between EPA figures and real-world fuel efficiency." That information sounds reasonable...and it summarizes what is being said in the majority of the articles. "Consumer Reports says Toyota Motor Corp.'s Prius falls short of mileage expectations by 6 mpg and the Prius c Two falls short of mileage expectations by 7 mpg." It looks like the EPA needs to investigate Toyota's hybrid MPG claims as well based on that article. My last tank was 44.6MPG, roughly 6% off the estimated 47MPG, so it looks like I'm in the "acceptable" zone... :)

I don't believe there is a hybrid version of the C-Max in Europe, it is either a Diesel or Gas powered. That is why we have the raised cargo floor over the battery, the car wasn't originally designed to be a hybrid... EDIT: The Ford UK only list Gas versions in their current C-Max brochure... The Eco-Boost version shows a 127MPH top speed!

Almost every car I've owned has had a sunroof I never opened, except to see if it worked, so the Panoramic Roof is just fine for my needs.. Is it worth $1200? That depends on what you want...I like how it lightens up the interior. I agree with shaners it seems to make the cabin area "feel" larger... I had my Panoramic Roof tinted the same as the windows and now I enjoy the extra light it lets in...without the UV concerns and glare now...

I am averaging a little over 44MPG in mixed Woodstock / Marietta / North Fulton traffic with occasional forays down I-575 / I-75 in to Atlanta. I'm not on Fuelly, I have an Excel spreadsheet I keep all the cars and motorcycles gas and maintenance information in....

The easiest answer is electrically all of your C-Max, except for the electric traction motor and battery, is just like any other car Ford makes...it's all 12VDC. It is technically possible to put a transformer on the traction battery to reduce the voltage to 12VDC but that would add weight and complexity while eating usable space. Transformers are very inefficient, as in they waste a lot of power converting one voltage to another, put off significant heat, and are heavy. That transformer would be required to run constantly to power your electric power steering, lights, radio, A/C and anything else electrically powered. And If you needed a jump start it would take a source as big as the traction battery to jump you off...forget about calling AAA. :) It isn't really practical from either an engineering or cost view point currently...

Does the navigation system show live traffic on map?
RedLdr1 replied to sslow's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
I suggest you call Sirius and ask... They will set up "custom" packages that aren't listed on their website. -
By Federal law the MPG numbers the EPA Test generates are required to be on the Monroney or "window' sticker.

Does the navigation system show live traffic on map?
RedLdr1 replied to sslow's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
The Ford system does not need a "smart phone" with a data plan, the weather and traffic and other services are accessed via the XM / Sirius Satellite Radio. The traffic data is then over-layed and displayed on the GPS map.... Or for some major metro areas you can also listen to traffic on one of the satellite radio channels... The source of the data, iXM/Sirius, is the same for both systems from what I see on the Entune page.... I believe I pay an additional $2 a month for the traffic / weather /other "stuff" through XM/Sirius in my SHO.... -
I also get a "Pop-Up" box screen on the left side info display that says "Ready To Drive" as well as the "Green Car and Arrows" when I start the car. As soon as I do anything the "pop-up" disappears but the "Green Car and Arrows" remains lighted the entire time the car is "On". I also get a similar "pop-up" screen reminding me the Parking Brake is On.... That maybe a feature of the SEL package, or other options, as I don't recall seeing it in the C-Max we test drove.

Body Side Moldings And Tinted Glass
RedLdr1 replied to RedLdr1's topic in Accessories & Modifications
Here in "Hotlanta" decent window tint is almost a necessity... I have been using Formula One on all my vehicles, well the ones with windows anyway, for about 15 years. The amount of UV rejection and heat reduction makes the cost well worth it IMO. Keeping the C-Max cooler with window tint means less A/C running which leads to better gas mileage...not that you can justify the cost that way, but it helps! ;) Plus not sitting down on a leather seat hot enough to cook your tail is much more pleasant. That is why I also had the panoramic roof tinted, the sun screen lets a lot of sun, and heat, in to the car even when it is closed. -
All, As I mentioned in another thread I had ordered Body Side Moldings (BSM) for the C-Max. I ordered color matched ChromeLine moldings from SportWing. As usual the color match is spot on and they were easy to install. Being lazy, and it is cool here, I had a local body shop install them this morning. Last week I took the car in and had the windows tinted, excluding the windshield, but including the panoramic roof, with Formula One Pinnacle Ceramic window tint. I went with a 35% tint to keep it legal... The reduction in glare is unbelievable, and I know from past experience it will keep the car several degrees cooler in the summer. Here are a few photos showing how it turned out... [/url] I still have the Ford front splash guards and "vent visors" to install, hopefully I'll get those done this weekend if it warms up... EDIT NOTE: I just added the fourth picture....
