  1. Ours is acting up again.  I took it to the dealer and Walla!  It wouldn't work for him either!  Both times it has been to the dealer the service manager (who is very nice) couldn't duplicate the problem and would take my wife out and "show her" how to get in the car.  This kinda pissed my wife off who is a successful business woman and no dummy!

Today while he was trying to get in I gave him both keys to be sure it wasn't just a bad key.  Sometimes it wouldn't unlock the drivers door but the back door would unlock.  Other times it would let you in on the second pull of the handle or not let you in at all.  It was the same scenerio for all 4 doors.

Finally the situation has been duplicated at the dealer and at least he thinks my wife isn't crazy anymore!

He is going to contact Ford to try and help diagnose this Gremlin.  Also today I could not turn off the radio again and the presets disapeared and the street name is gone under the compass again.  All is now "documented".

  2. I know that you will probably only see good MPG's a few months out of the year in Alaska, but you will see better than most cars on the road up there for mpg's.  Cold weather and mpg's don't mix and that holds true for any vehicle.  Please keep us updated on how your car performs in extreme cold!  Most winter days around here are below freezing temps, but occaisionally we get a warmer day and my mileage skyrockets on those days!

  3. My snow tires tend to be on from early October to mid April although snow in September is not unheard of or a late April or early May surprise.  I drove studded tires for a long  time, but after driving studless Blizzak's, I will not go back.  Michelin Ice X's are also a good choice.  I went with the Blizzaks because Costco had them in stock and on sale here, so no shipping.  You just do not to run them when it is too warm or they will wear fast.  The Focus options for 16 inch wheels work great and there were zero problems installing.

I will get myself in a photo at some point and a review as I get more experience with the car.

I agree!  I went off the Focus sizings when I bought my Michelin X-ice in 16 inch size for the C-max.  I hope to get the stock wheels and tires (with the TPMS sensors) installed back on our car in late March or early April.  I don't know for sure, but I actually think that a 15" wheel will fit...

  4. OK, I'm puzzled.  Why should my car use more gas with the heater on?

With a gasoline engine, heat is free.  In fact it is something to get rid of thru the radiator.  Why would I use more gas using the engine's waste heat to heat the interior instead of heating the air passing through the radiator?

If the heater is on and it it is cold outside, the engine will run if for no other reason, just to make heat for the cabin.

  5. It is unusually warm in Western PA today (mid 50's).  I took a 4-legged trip with HVAC off.  All the legs were 8-12 miles with speeds between 50-60 mph.  The first leg was with a cold car.  Here are my results...

    Leg one -- 42 MPG

    Leg two -- 53 MPG

    Leg three -- 45 MPG

    Leg four -- 68 MPG

I tried as hard as I could to maintain a 100% brake score.  I used pulse and glide as much as possible.  I let the car roll down the hills and let my speed drop a little when climbing hills.  I am happy with those numbers!

  6. Mine did that the other day...  I was driving to the store and hit the power off button for the radio and it kept playing.  I tried seeveral times and no matter what I did I could not shut off the radio.  When I got to the store I shut down the car and it "thanked" me for driving a Hybrid so I know I powered the car down, however the radio continued to play.  I got out of the car and shut the door and the radio still played!  I unlocked the car and got back in... shut the door and the opened it again and got out and the radio finally shut down.

  7. I just got this info from syncmyride.com   It looks like maybe 3.5.1 might solve the NAV problems because it comes with a new SD card.  Unfortunatly, it doesn't appear to be available for the Hybrid cars just yet...  I guess we will have to just wait and see.

Today, we are proud to announce the release of a new software update, available immediately for many SYNC® with MyFord Touch®/MyLincoln Touch systems. This new software will provide the following enhancements to your current system:

    • Return of the outside air temperature to the 8 inch display
    • Updated phone pairing process
    • Enhanced voice and screen destination entry for SD Card Navigation (if equipped)
    • Simplified voice commands for music
    • Enhancements to voice recognition
    • Updated SYNC/device compatibility

Please note that the update is not yet available for MyFord Touch/MyLincoln Touch vehicles equipped with Navigation. For these vehicles, the software update requires a complimentary replacement SD card. We plan to have your replacement SD cards, as well as the new software update, ready for you in January. We will make an announcement in the forums when you are able to request your replacement SD card. Please be aware that if you perform the update without the replacement SD card in a Navigation-equipped vehicle, your Navigation system will be inoperable.

If your vehicle is not equipped with SD Card Navigation, you can log in and check for updates now.

We look forward to sharing an enhanced MyFord Touch and MyLincoln Touch experience with all of you.
