WHY hasn't a Ford engineer or spokes person chimmed in ???
Jus-A-CMax replied to catsailor's topic in General Discussion
On other forums ala GolfWRX, there are representatatives from the various MAJOR golf manufacturers there who post and help....some even throw in some prototype of their new clubs and all. Its a a win-win in the real world instead of hiding behind legal-eagles...us posters get to ask questions about the product, they respond....and if something breaks or design flaw...hey send it back and heres a replacement. There are esoteric stuff there too kinda like gas pods and I think Susana is the 1st of any company to represent a product here on the board. Look Ford knows about this board, many of us owners have given this web address at the Irvine POW-WOW. Yeah, they are probabaly all the "Google" users we see. Hee..Ford lurkers....be a :airquote: man, sign up as yourself :victory: -
:congrats: welcome to the High MPG club. If you are interested....you are eligible for the 600+ Mile CMax club as well....assuming those miles are all done in a single tank of gas. Since its an honor system, drop a post here: 600+ Mile C-Max Club Adair can add you in ;)

My experience and documentation shows the engine breakin starts around 2,000 and goes way past 3,000. My trips from Mammoth back to Los Angeles document engine breakin to at least 11,000 - 12,000 with improving MPGs at a steady rate (steady temps, traffic and exact same roads). However, I am finding the MPG still goes to 15,000 approx and then the 3.5.1 updates kick in (apparently this does add some salt to the recipe to make it better...so to speak). Not speaking for Matt but he too reported something similar beyond the 12,000 in his 700+ tanks. I think the fact that us hypermilers run the ICE way less, would indicate a much longer break-in time. However, I know for a fact that between my new car and 12,000 I was going at > 50% freeway (especially my trips from Los Angeles to Mammoth and back) so use of ICE is higher than city. Anyway, its all BETTER news because that 3,000 is not :airquote: jus it...the mpg just gets better like a very fine red wine  My 2c

:secret: ....darn, I have been exposed

I still want a :flirt: Prii :stirpot:

lol...I still ended up using premium but you're right...thats a huge deal breaker. Gotta :love_shower: that Fender system though. I am really starting to see more Tesla S cars here in Los Angeles. Darn, they look good...but very limited in the range though. Would not be able to drive to Mammoth especially when its snowing and cold, real battery killer condition and the range of 280 somthing miles ain't gonna fly with heavy load.

1 kick Power liftgate stories...
Jus-A-CMax replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Body Panels, Trim, etc.
^ we :wub2: those stories...keep 'em coming. So far we have 1 chilli and 1 peach schnapps disaster to add on the other end of the see-saw... -
I agree...they are suppose to be coming out with a "cheaper" alternative. Who knows by then the My15 would be quite outstanding if Ford heeds even the mere suggestions we put out here... Has anyone seen the Elantra Hybrids?

SDM...Rather than do a whole trip and say 1 bar vs 2 bar burn....SDM, repeat what I did in my other thread with just one stretch of road and do the 1 br vs 2 bar to 35 mph and cut off and read the Trip to see how much gas you took to get up to 35mph from zero. NO EV start though. Are you using regular gas too SDM - cause if you are, then that would make it really interesting if your results vary...

Hee....that one I really have to work on....this number was casual and its less than what I was doing with my 833.8 tank, at the 500 mile mark ;) Tell ya....this CMax is scary good at these speeds.

Jus-A-CMax replied to catsailor's topic in General Discussion
lol, try that Alan guy first....I think my Mr.Ford is rather dead...you might have better results with a seance ;) -
There is a big thread I think started by snitGTS so you might want to search for this. Heres my take on it - I did try a regular tank, 2nd tank. I found it lacking in power and torque and have not used it sense. I can't show anyone here pictures to prove premium has more torque and power but this video by the Layden proves my point - but I find that I can more than make up for the extra cost of the tank by my high mile per tank and I do use the extra power & torque to my hypermiling advantage with the 2 bar burns. In contrast, some early hypermilers swear by the 1 bar burn and this could be that I use premium vs regular, my 18K odo engine breakin vs their 2K - 8K breakin...but its up to you, its your money, your driving and I would suggest you do your own testing to fund which is better....

catsailor - being a mod doesn't mean we have connections with Ford, we simply don't - as we are volunteers here on the forums with 9 to 5 jobs. However, you certainly raise some great questions. However, I know myself, I have never been contact by Ford or even the dealer when I was breaking these records and as far as I know, neither has Matt..except for his dealer. However, thats not to say that Ford didn't learn a lot or download a ton of data from the Irvine POW-WOW in Feb this year. Here is my suggestion to everyone here - IF YOU HAVE A FACEBOOK account - please hit the C-Max FB page and aim it @Eric to have someone give more details on these new upgrades. Remember, they didn't do diddly-squat with the 3.5.1 upgrade and improving FE there - they just slide that in like what Micro$oft did with their updates at one time, no choice whatsoever..."here you go son". -
If you can get 600 with your freeway driving thats more than enuf. The higher the MPG, the more city ala 35mph speed limit driving, you must do. The last tank I added in about 50% freeway and I still made 650 miles with some gas in reserve. This tank I am on now is back to all city, may a splash or 2 of freeway which is why its down compared to my 833.8 tanlk at the various 100th mile points.

Great reminder. I tried going down a big hill in neutral with 1/3 battery for kicks at around Dec...as it turns out...it totally drained my battery in no time. The CMax breaks many rules of typical hypermiling...use of EV instead of 100% ICE, no neutral. I think this video was geared for the general public and not SPECIFIC to the CMax of Fusion hybrid....cause we kick ass :)

I am just waiting for the other big boyz to find and this club...frbill, snitGTS, Matt and seth and then I was going to throw up my number :) Those guys will come in big as well...
-
xanotos, I added you to the club but something does not look right to me...you have 65%EV (328.1 miles out of your 503.2 miles is EV) and I know your area pretty well and the 36.4MPG doesn't seem right to me as I think your Avg MPG for those miles is MUCH HIGHER ;) but I cannot tell you since there is no figure for gas used. I suspect what you are showing us in the attached picture is a MyView and that Avg MPG which I suspect you have not reset since you purchased your car. Next time when you fill up the tank, make sure you reset Trip 1 or Trip 2 computer and get a picture from there because that will give use the Avg MPG for that tank. Nice going though for a car so young

I found this on FB and it came from Ford Social.... Kevin Layden, Director of Electrification Programs and Engineering for Ford talks about some of the myths INCLUDING the Premium vs Economy gas (f you must...go to 2:54 on the video). Other INTERESTING NOTE: use of the carbon cannister (see 1:08 time on video) to capture vapour to power vehicle. So onward....the discussion cover the following (copy and paste from Ford Social web page): http://social.ford.com/our-articles/cars/focus/ford-takes-on-fuel-economy-myths-from-fans/ Discuss away.... :)

Hmmh...I looked that up after your post...still looks like a Prii in a different skirt on and not that much gain. After looking at this, Ford did the CMax and Fusion hybrids right with FAR more power and higher MPG.
-
Thats amazing, 2 months ago, you were not even going to try....wow :)
-
Hee...he can probably use it the most. I would :airquote: volunteer but not at the expense of forking out money for this, not at those prices. If it was less at $20, yeah, I can afford to buy it and then move it / pay it forward etc if it doesn't work. And as you know, I am darn good with tracking my mileage/MPG/fuel burn etc. From what I am able to gather, it may be 2 MPG improvement and really, for me, that a squirt or 2 of gas at most since I am running my route consistently high (64 MPG for the day!)...not sure if this will be way more beneficial for my speed range.
