Welcome to the Forum and also congratulations on your new C-Max. Yeah, the Trip Summary only shows 1 decimal place so, eventhough you see 0.0, you might have used 0.08 and it just truncates. Try using the Trip1 or Trip2 which has 2 decimal points. I know, its freaky to see you went like X mile on zero gas used, lol.

MPG - I dunno....they did not factor in the large battery and power which tweaks the equation in the CMax favor. There is NO explanation for the mileage me, Matt and orphoto got in our over 700s as well as the 19 other BROTHERS in the 600+ Mile CMax Club - we should all be floundering under 500s like the V drivers. I truly believe the higher EV and batts is the ace up our sleeves. I don't think the V can even pull a mid 500s with it "superior" physical advantage and coeff. Bigger, powerful is not bad...I think of it like a Vaughn Corsair vs a Zero...bigger & powerful wins the dogfight ;)

I'll see if I can help with my mega tank before the end of this week ;)

C-Max Energi commercial " How far can you go on $20?"
Jus-A-CMax replied to salsaguy's topic in Articles, News & Reviews
I'd like to see how far an Energi goes with 1 charge only and 1 tank of gas. I just want to see how a bigger battery would improve the MPGs. I told Ford at the Irvine Pow-Wow I thought if they could squeeze a little bigger battery, perhaps 1/2 size of the Energi, that would be beneficial for the regular C-Max as my old route I use to use the canyons to mega charge and then see it waste the rest. Yes, I know there is a weight-energi issue but hell, if Matt can carry 300lbs and still do 750+ miles, I like to see 300lbs of extra batts - which funny enuf is the diff in weight between an Energi and the regular. -
Wow & ouch mtb.... I am very excited you got the Gas Pods and leading the pack to see if it will improve your MPG. We all know you struggle with the MPG so coming from you as to whether it works or not would be more beneficial than someone like myself or Matt who are looking to improve the game only. Go for it mate & keep the stats of your tanks and trips :)

Journey to 800+ Miles on a single tank in a C-Max Hybrid
Jus-A-CMax replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Fuel Mileage
Thanks catsailor. Cool, I have no connection with Ford. I only email my 2 guys at Galpin when I get something. Not sure if they use it or not but hey, they have their biz to run. The question here is whether "ordinary" drivers will get this and I believe they would once they get to know their car and chaneg their drive mentality...the latter is the toughest for any driver to accept since this is Los Angeles and its hoon city, even the Priiis here get lots of speeding tickets. LOL. -
Yah! You're good then

Pulse and Glide. Run up to 65mph, let it glide down to 58 mph and repeat. Feel free to throw in some EV at 60mph to sustain a longer glide but don't overdo it...most drivers drain it too low and as a result, they have no EV for the next glide phase.
-
Yep, on the SD card, comes with the upgrade only.
-
Be careful with that - as I had this once and it caused a Check Engine to appear - believe it or not! But true as I have the Service Report doc to prove it. Check your SD card says "A4" on it as well.
-
Best result is P&G but you need to watch the freeway terrain to see if its upslope/downslope. If its upslope, just use cruise and relax and if its down- use P&G to say 5 mph above speed limit and let it cruise down. Rinse and repeat. So many choices but you have to be situational aware of what the road & traffic isdoing.

I HAVE FOUND THE ILLUSIVE MPG SWEET SPOT!
Jus-A-CMax replied to Generalbeluga's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Edsel...no, quick double tap the "-" button but this is only after letting the engine run pure ICE for a few miles (ideal is to allow the SOC to be built up). When you double tap the "-" you see a slight decrease in the speed while at the same time, the instant MPG would peak and -hopefully- it wil start dancing high. Just et it be. Suggest reading the Gen's Post #1 to understand it. You need to play with it to find the sweet spot and its terrain/slope sensitive so don't try this on a huge uphill. No need for a book, just PM me for any questions etc. Be glad to help, thats what this forum is all about. Mind you, I still get low ones, hit a 40.5MPG today for a 4.4 mile trek. Uphill, can't fight physics. -
Include engine break-in people ;) This car is unlike gas engine or any other car I know and I will atest where once I thought the engine break-in was finished at 11,000 or 12,000...it still continues with slightly increasing MPGs. And I have consistent temps as well. Adair - pump some wee bit more air into the tires say 44PSI (measured cold), you'll see more improvements ;)

Journey to 800+ Miles on a single tank in a C-Max Hybrid
Jus-A-CMax replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Fuel Mileage
Almost..2 miles short of 500. I'll hit it tomorrow morning Still in the 63MPG Avg range :yahoo: -
Another Ford server error? mtb had a wireless issue and according to him, they need to run a cat5 instead - what is going on here with these dealership and/or Ford servers?!? Phew, I am thankful mine was done quick and easy. Yep, they killed me MPG big time, I gave it to them at 59 and got it back like 54/53 or something like that, ended up losing by a hair to Matt - if only I did lose that MPG....as we both broke the 750+ mark.. ;) I think you'll like the 3.5.1 Liz - slight improvements in the speed but still slow overall imo - but far more stable from what I am able to experience to date.

Good stuff mtb, glad u are now more peaceful with your MPGs thru your own learning. Whilst my strategy differs from yours, there's no right or wrong, just what works for you. Keep going

Journey to 800+ Miles on a single tank in a C-Max Hybrid
Jus-A-CMax replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Fuel Mileage
Yeah 1000 is possible, under SUSTAINED right conditions, terrain and driving skills and good luck with it cause it's no cakewalk to keep these high MPGs and not PO the traffic, real world driving. Now if you find a loop with no stop signs or traffic lights or cars, feel free to loop it for 40+ hours at 30 mph. That's a show in itself...and the 1000 is for the taking. However, this may be fun to do with another hypermiler like Matt. Who knows...maybe our Cmaxs will breakin even more, just a wishful thought. As for my high MPGs, I selected my route that I know intimately to use the terrain to the max but as long as I get home or work or to lunch in a reasonable time but not stupid. The San Fernando valley is flat predominantly but as we know the Cmax is ubber sensitive to changes and I pick up on this....so I know the best roads and how to manage the drive....if that's a secret...guilty as charged. :) -
Nope, for me 65/70F ice warm up is typically short, less than a min. But may short cycle again once if u don't use ice after warmup...like I may be using just EV.This is overcome with some braking to throw it back to EV mode. Now when it drops to 40-45F or below then ice is on longer, noticed this alot whilst at snowy Mammoth, nothing can be done so think of it as a battery recharging "exercise". Plus it's cold, forget about MPGs.

Journey to 800+ Miles on a single tank in a C-Max Hybrid
Jus-A-CMax replied to Jus-A-CMax's topic in Fuel Mileage
Got to work, no trail blazing 79, jus 77...one too many squirt of gas. So I decided to check the miles to E...373. If that holds, guys...this is going to be a 850+ tank and I didn't factor in the additional 10 miles in zero red zone. That is insane.. :drop: ..., photos later. :) -
All true, but thus far this car now just totally exceeds my expectations. Yes, I do recognize there are others still have major issues like dead Batts so I do thank my lucky stars. Anyway, as one of the top odo milers with orphoto & Matt, lets see how my car goes as she continues to blaze the miles and MPGs. Adair...the worst weather we get is a sprinkle of shower. ..wooo...I can complain about having to wash Maxine. No wait...that's pleasure

It just hit me as I am posting tonight - I have nothing left to complain about my C-Max... :yahoo: :happy feet: My GPS is working 100% :happy feet: My MFT with 3.5.1 has NOT crashed or "Schedule Maintenance" since the update. :happy feet: My liftgate is working with 1 kick. :happy feet: My little panel next to the gas pedal that use to flick off has been replaced and its staying in. :happy feet: No weird noise. ...and the best YET.... :wub2: AWESOME, SUPER, GREAT mileage like I have never seen before. :wub2: What else am I suppose to do now on this forum? Surely, surely there must be something to complain about our CMaxs.. :sing_rain: Pssssss Ford Motor Company & Galpin Ford - well done, you've taken care of the main PAIN POINTS for me. Look forward to the next MFT update :)

I hear yer but that may be hard to achieve since I am sure myself, Matt and others all have other beliefs that would be conflicting when laid side by side - and yet this works for us individually. Thats the tough bit to overcome. So for now, I'll do mine, I know snitGTS has done his own, and many other drivers will do their own. Individually, we could do our own top 10 but its just too hard to come to a common consensus top 10 - if you catch my meaning. Good idea though.

1) Some people do that but I don't bother. Even the gas pumps are not accurate so while try to we strive for perfection, it doesn't exist. My belief is that using the same gauge in my car presents the least inconsistency. Yeah, you can adjust for the tire thread for the odo as well and carry on and on and on...but thats too much work and I am not that an*l...so I present what I use. Plus no one else is compensating for this or that, we all just show the Trip and thats good enough standard ;) 2) You would think so...but in the overall picture, the weight of the gas is not a big factor, based on what I am seeing. Right now, I am carrying my 5,7 and 9 and PW Ping irons, my putter, and my 60 ball golf shagbag, 2 pairs of golf shoes, my gym bag, my GoRun Skecher (Adair!!! Get this for Asia!), I think I made up for the missing gas weight...hell I could have broken 80 if I removed my junk...lol. Conversely, if you carry 300lbs of gear like Matt, then thats a different story.
