Go Nick! Go Nick!!!!! Be our 20th!!!!!!!

You know I did consider that before I bought the CMax but then I thought...I got a phone (need a charger when it decides to get off the berzerk mode) and then if I got a GPS (need another charger) so thats 2 pieces of wires I need to plug in and hang all over the dash. Meh. You know for me it works based on my actual experience. Funny enuf I didn't want a MFT at the start, thought exactly like you - an oversize waste of money but after the first drive, I was sold. Each to their own I guess :)

An iPhone or even an Android on a dash is useless in parts of Malibu, No signal, no net=useless map and address, as I found out. Plus googlemaps drain the crap out of the batts and with DroidX if the batt is hot (and it does when the maps is used) it won't charge. I've been burnt by trusting the phone maps so I said never again. For me, it was a no brainer plus nothing beats the large screen for ease of sight when navigating and seeing the up ahead street names and road curvature vs a wee lil phone screen. That's my experience using the MFT for my RE appraisal work and I won't solely rely on a phone anymore. I may supplement MFT with the phone, if anything.

Initially I wanted the SE but after sitting in a SEL and looking at that chunk of a screen - I was sold. Now with 3.5.1 I have nothing but GREAT to report, especially with the GPS. :wub2: it and will by the Prii again. ;)

IMO, the brake scores are not that critical in the overall scheme of things - a 97% vs 100% is not going to effect you as much as your acceleration or route selection. You can easily make up the 3% in the first P&G. Now if you score 50% all the time, thats a different story

My advice for up hills....use ICE, not enuf power in EV (MTB forgetaboutit). If you can, keep it at 2 bars so u can charge and just before you peak, back off the pedal so u can allow EV to kick in and push u over the top..remember, little things make a big difference. Remember u can't fight physics going up hill so use ICE. Downhills depends on a few things, steepness of grade, traffic on your a$$, next light or jammed traffic ahead... so that will influence whether u decide to use EV to power down, ICE to give u a burst say 5 mph above speed limit, or if steep enuf jus coast and gain regen... u have to make the call but remember, ICE uses gas which u can't get back if you're doing a 600+ tank run.

Hee...sounds like 2 grannies in Oldsmobiles racing each other to the next red light at 8 mph.... :hysterical: I am sooooo dead :sing_rain:

:worship: ...Da man is back :happy feet: Calling all search parties, its called off...ptjones is alive and well...... ;) You have a lot of reading to do mate so welcome back

Those are the ones. There are other deturbulators. Side note - I was washing the car this evening and noted in the rear lights some aero shaping in the plastic molding, interesting. Yes, those side mirrors are the least efficient I have seen in any car, even my Jaguar is more streamline and its a gas engine car - what was Ford thinking (great aero, slick body and then a drunken designer after a Friday pub crawl must headed back to the office and whipped up that slab wall design. Ugh).

Exactly. I am seeing a limited as well. We have multiple threads here from posters (which is a sample size) and predominantly, there is no issue. The power save message I get as well, its usually about 15 mins after you turn off your engine so thats is not new. Which is sometimes I leave the engine on while I wait for a client and I got heckled to death over the time on my Trip computer for the miles by one poster.

Interesting since that car is only rated at 25 mpg city, 28 combined. That's quite an improvement. :headscratch:I have to agree, I had a Focus rental for 3 days while they worked on my GPS replacement (see my thread on the biplane) and I checked the MPGs on it for freeway and surface street - for freeway, it was impressive 36MPGs but as soon as I swtiched to the surface streets with some hills/start-stop traffice and did my comparable shoots, it too a big hit and end up like 28-29MPGs. About the same as my 98 Camry 4 cylinder. However, it shines on the freeway for sure. No way did I see 40MPG in that car and it was at least 2 yrs old and I did not have the AC on. JMC - maybe stop babying the CMax and do the opposite (if u havent done this already). If you accelerate too slow you burn a ton of gas as well based on my experience and FE driving is not for everyone. Good luck with it...

you're married, this should be like water off a ducks back by now...otherwise you're back to the hubby training school for you.... :hysterical:

43 in the city is poor imo, the CMax easily does 55+ MPG around the city at the 35mph speeds assuming you don't hoon red light to red light as most idjiots here ;)

Great write up Matt...now I don't need to call yer ;) One thing I'll throw out to the mob here - Gas Pods. Been thinking of using it to cut down on the grime and dust that accumulates on the rear. It suppose to improve the aero by reducing the vortex in the rear by the creation of turbulence. Deturbulators as they call it (hope I got it right as I am no aero eng myself). So, anyone used or experienced this? One of the reasons why I don't think the rear aerial will be replaced soon as it too will create turbulence for the rear (as versus the sharkfin).

I am actually...I fess up....I have my wife pedalling to pull the CMax...oh I am so dead.... :hysterical: No, nothing at all. I have always said (if you look at my review), knowing your terrain and maximizing it will give you more than any technique. Before the CMax, I had NO CLUES as to what was flat and what was not and it all looked the same to me. Since I've had Maxine, oh boy, does she tell me in her lil ways if the road is truly flat or not so make use of this knowledge. Add in some nice P&G, feathering the pedal and controlling how power ou really need for the cruise and watching the roads - you complete the MPG cake. Jus go easy on it, as you can OD on it and become and addict like Matt and I :hi5:

MythBusters: Hypermiling techniques
Jus-A-CMax replied to fotomoto's topic in Hybrid Driving Tips & Tricks
Cool, I did not DVR it but it looked the same car when I watched it. If that was the case, then IF they used the same model, it would have made a more interesting discussion between a new car MPG vs a broken in one. -
rolling one (heatshield) can fold - just got to fold it. As well, theres more coverage area around the rear vision mirror. took a while to get use to this gigantic one but now its fine. :wub2: it.

Back to the drawing board.....the saga continues...
Jus-A-CMax replied to Adair's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
Of course they have to keep the phone, thats 50% of the problem there...hope you get a decent biplane on Monday :hysterical: -
Then you hit 805 and I hit 807 and then orphoto comes in at 808...rarified air in the stratosphere... Yeah, I am really blown away by how efficient the CMax is at the surface street speeds with 33mph is the sweet spot. Add some basic hypermiling techniques - WOW - better than a front seat at the Victoria Secret launch and models blowing kisses at yer ;) . As I admitted way early in this thread, with > 50% freeway, there was no way to break the 700 miles, 630-640 is the limit but switch over to 100% surface and its a whole new ball game. I never even considered how good this car was until out of the blue when you easily thrashed the old records with your more surface streets. Also, I think this is very repeatable by everyone as well, not just you and I - eventhought we both have the advantage of well broken in cars as compared to many other here who yet to break the 10,000, let alone 15,000 on the odo. Tonight when I was driving home, it almost felt a "lightness" to the car, as if it was floating and that is a very nice feeling to have if you're hypermiling. May be just an illusion but it felt great. What I am pleased about is that I now totally know how this car would do with a lot of freeway and now alot of surface street. About now, I would rate the City as 55MPGs and Freeway at 50MPGs just basic. Hypermile it and you can easily add 2 MPGs to it. Matt - you also have PM so if you don't mind checking ;) Yep, thats sensible. It's mildly hot here, peaking at 83F but mostly low 70s.

Go Matt! Go Matt! Those little 0.1 mpg increments is tough indeed. My tank right now is 62.4 MPGs , jus short of 100 miles on the tank. Anyway, it looks like I will do 1 tank for your 2 but I am good with that cause I :wub2: driving by the Costco each day, waving to all those gas guzzlers. I like the comp but I far more enjoy beating those Cmax doubters to a pulp, nothing like being a pink elephant in their discussion...hence my Fuelly as well. Speaking of which, NO one has come close to mid 650s, let alone break 700. I have no doubt you'll take back the crown...go Matt

Test drove C-Max, Prius & JSW TDI
Jus-A-CMax replied to Testdriver's topic in Buying, Order and Leasing
Grabby brakes does not necessarily imply that its caused by regen, I drove a 11 XF and that was as grabby as the Cmax and it was an all gas vehicle. Right on the brake dust, 16000+ and I have yet to see any, even when washing. Amazing, as I was cringed at the thought of cleaning the Cmax wheel spokes when I first bought the car...dust. What's that...
