  1. We tried it this morning. Navigation, destination nearest rest area. And it worked fine. However I have to mention that overall the nav is pretty unstable for us these days. Our little icon is rarely on the road anymore. We notice if we make right turns our icon goes off the road and stays off until it suddenly on its on goes back on track. We used to brag about our nav but the longer we have the car the more glitches are happening with it. We aren't due for serving until the Fall, but I will ask whether we need a GPS Module when we go in.
  2. C-Maxgo we tried it when we went down to Washington State the other day and it worked. I will try again shortly and give you the exact word sequence that worked for us. I know for sure that nearest does not work--yet nearby does. And we did not use name, we used category "rest area".
  3. I got a call from a friend asking if our car is being re-called. Sounds like it eh? ww.cbc.ca/news/business/ford-recalls-90-000-escape-c-max-vehicles-in-canada-1.2637738 http://www.autoblog.com/2014/05/09/ford-escape-c-max-hybrid-airbag-door-handle-recall/
  4. We first test drove the Prius C and it was way too small and uncomfortable. We banged our heads on the ceiling getting in. Then we drove the Prius V. It was very utilatarian and sort of plastic like inside--did not have much in the way of pep on the freeway. My husband liked it because of the space inside. Then we drove the C-Max and ordered one. I have to say when we are driving around I always mistake the Prius V for a C-Max. There are a few Prius V's in the neighbourhood with a colour very similar to Ice Storm and we still have no other C-Maxes around here. Meant to say that my husband loves the Lexus brand and thinks it is the best car going. He misses his Lexus SUV but it was a gas guzzler. I think the C-Max has a luxury car feel--good suspension, nice leather, wonderful panoramic roof, nice solid feel to it.
  5. Ill informed sales agents and dealerships would be my guess on lack of sales in my part of North America. It is so bad that it has influenced us on our perception of Ford. We have a great car with few issues (knock on wood), but we dread going into the dealership as they are so indifferent and lacking knowledge about the C-Max. After the sales woman who ordered our car left the dealership, it was a total turn around in atmosphere concerning hybrids at our dealership.
  6. I like learning new things Rebecca. I won't get to practice on Tip my C-Max as right now I am on Galiano Island with my dog Tinker. Tip is home with hubby and I have rented a 2006 Diesel Smart Car. Oh my goodness does the Smart Car seem primitive. I had a 2012 Smart Car that I traded in for Tip and I loved it. This is a different kettle of fish as this one is loud, noisy, no guts etc. etc. You might enjoy this Rebecca. My husband has been a little negative about Tip as he used to have a luxury SUV. However he went for one ride in the 2006 Smart Car (you can rent cheaply because its body is covered with advertising) and the air went blue with his thoughts on this Smart Car. And he began referring to Tip as his car where in the past Tip was always mine. So Tinker and I are having an adventure and a girl's weekend with the little rattle trap car on Galiano for a few days. We are in the middle of an Arbutus forest lookng at the ocean--just contemplating having a snooze in the 26 C heat. Eek a turkey buzzard is circling Tinker (part pom and part chihuahua)--gotta go grab her lol.
  7. Thanks Rebecca. I will try it out. So I gather I say "Destination POI", "Nearby", "Rest area"? I was a little unclear when you said "name".
  8. It applies to 3 future transfers to Sirius equipped vehicles and after those 3, I will have to pay $75 to transfer it to another Sirius equiped vehicle. I think 3 will be enough as hubby and I are 65 yrs. old thus aren't too likely to be swapping vehichles as much as we did in our youth. I have loved Sirius since we first got it--great for non reception areas on road trips. However, it is highly likely that somehow and some way they will get the best of me as that appears to be the nature of these companies. Que sera, que sera.
  9. I got my email reminder from Sirius that they would be automatically deducting $175 plus tax to renew for another year in June. Last year I got a rate of about half that and the fellow who gave it to me said to phone this year ahead of time and ask for a good rate. He said if they refuse just cancel and phone back later and I would get a good rate. So I phoned yesterday and asked for a better rate. Got a flippant young woman who laughed when I asked for a good rate. She came back with an offer of $171 and I said, "that is only 4 dollars less". Her response was that it was a good rate because it included taxes. I asked to cancel and she transferred me over to the cancellation department. I got a charming fellow from Eastern Canada (loved his accent). He offered me a rate of about $80, but then I asked about lifetime memembership and I bought that for $530. Love my Sirius so I am happy.
  10. It is there somewhere as we found it a few months ago. Hubby vaguely recalls going to the bottom of the screen and pushing something to do with navigation and eventually found something that asked what poi icons we wanted displayed and there were rest area icons. Sorry to be so vague, but if you don't use it you lose it LOL.
  11. I bet Jus was watching the Masters today. Another Aussie made the news i.e. young Oliver Goss was low scoring amateur! Way to go Oliver. Bubba Watson won which was okay I guess. Seems a good guy albeit a bit hyper. I still want Mike Weir to make a come back, but that ain't goin' happen.
  12. Hi there Nick! I just sent you a pm. It was great too meet you two. We are just heading to Galiano Island for a few days or sitting on a deck and watching for orcas! Ferry leaves in about 3 hours. If you two come up before the end of May, maybe you could join us for a couple of days? We have never rented a cottage on a wee island in the Salish Sea before but I know it will be nice. Take care. C-Maxer's are the nicest people!!
  13. I am no car guy, but in my experience with my car your battery at 30% is the issue. My engine generally kicks in when the battery is that low and your battery will soon recharge.
  14. Edsel it is frustrating. We have found the weak link with buying the C-Max is the dealerships. They seem very old school and have been resistant to take any printed out information that I have taken in over problems experienced by owners with possible solutions. It is like they have ear muffs on and they know it all and how dare a customer suggest something. Then they keep your car for several days when they promised 4 hours, and they wind up doing what the print out said in the end. Not good.
  15. We have it on very cloudy rainy days. Maybe it can't pick up satellite reception. It is fine when the skies clear up.
  16. My young power washing lad in the kilt has several layers of black long johns on due to the brisk cold wind. Drats LOL. He says they will be taking the long johns off at the end of the month. Beautiful and sunny here on the South Coast of BC but very cold winds happening right now.
  17. Hey Brother Mike you are right. Spring is just around the corner. Right now we have the monsoon rains happening. Supposedly we will have sun on Monday and Tuesday. Monday is St. Patrick's Day and we have a guy coming to power wash around our concrete patio etc. He works for a company called Men With Kilts. All the workers are men who actually wear kilts while they work. It is quite the sight to see these young nice looking lads climbing ladders in their kilts. I've let all my women neighbours know their time of arrival so they can be sure to catch a glimpse of the kilted lads LOL. There were several companies to choose from but Men With Kilts was my first choice just for the fun of it.
  18. Oh brother salman! I can't believe this is happening to you again. I am so sorry.
  19. We had our snow tires taken off today. I would say that having snow tires on the C-Max is an unpleasant experience. They make the C-Max ride very roughly --somewhat like driving an off road SUV. The snow tires made the ride noisy as well. We noticed the noise right away and found it annoying but got used to it. However, roughness and noisiness aside we will still put them on every year for safety. So now we are back to our nice quiet ride. Our mileage stayed at 5.9 L per 100 kilometers all winter so it will be interesting to see if it drops back down again with the tires off. We had the snow tires put on almost at the same time that we got the upgrades so we never got to see any real mileage improvement from the upgrades. Another plus of getting the snow tires off was learning that there was no charge for having them put on and off for the life of the car at Kal Tire where we bought the tires and rims. Happy day! First time in a long time we haven't had to pay for a service.
  20. I am pretty sensitive by nature and nothing anyone has written has been offensive from what I can see. It comes across as matter-of-fact and not rude. You all are pretty courteous on the whole and this is one of the better forums for civil behaviour.
  21. Ginger lily that is new to me. I will have to go and read about it. Sure is pretty. I am thinking it isn't available around here, but I'll check it out. We are big on hostas around here due to the climate--sort of rainy and temperate with lots of slugs who eat the leaves LOL. I just looked up ginger lilies. Wow they have some beautiful flowers when in bloom. Fotomoto that flower bed is going to be gorgeous!
  22. Who knew? I learned something new and important. Thank you Frank!
  23. It is a big positive that the shop manager is so fussy. Sorry for your wait but you do want Max at his finest.
  24. Just to be clear you are saying, navigation, destination, POI. Then when asked by name or by catergory, you say "by name". Then you say city instead of nearby and then say Dallas next. Then when asked for POI, you say Dallas Fort Worth Airport. Is that your sequence? Our navigation works great until we try entering a whole bunch of locations within a half hour time frame, and then it is head bashing time. It accepts two or three locations just fine within that half hour, but it crashes if we try more than that.
