  1. Ok fellas, ENUF. This is a welcome thread, not a beat each other thread - take that to PM.

Adrian_L / ptjones, feel free to ignore this poster. I will watch his posts.

cheezy - stop your nasty posts. You come here with a clear antagonistic agenda, many of your posts are nasty and asking for fights. If you do not know how to behave in a forum, leave. Otherwise if you keep this up, you will be banned. You have been warned.

Err, seriously, what post are talking about to ban me for?

Nasty and asking for fights? Negative.

  2.

I won't be going to the dealer anymore they are too expensive and ive always changed my own oil, transmission fluid and did tune ups on all my vehicles

I'd like to know what other 2013 cmax hybrid drivers use for oil

    thanks

    Ditto on DIY wrenching.

I'll run what the Dealer had in this '13 SEL with 64K on it, have a Ford Dealer put it up on their rack for the next oil/filter change to run for another 8-10K, then switch over to my preferred 100% Synthetic Amsoil. Filter changes at 50% of oil life, do a BlackStone eval., etc..

    Great thread.

  3. Does anyone use one of these? I and thinking about being able to haul 6 each 5 gal gas cans, yard care items and an occasion 5' -6' tall plant and am wondering if these cargo carriers would work for these items. I use a F-150 now and just seeing what overkill it is and looking for other options.

    Roger

I'm interested too, just to put that monster "foot bumper" back there to better stop the back-ins in parking lots.

My F250 PSD is overkill for many of the same trips, too.

  4. 45-50 PSI in tires, use ethanol free fuel, have the oil level in your car at the halfway point between the 'stick marks of High & Low.

If your commute is nice and level, NOT hilly, use the Eco-cruise function.

    Enjoy.

Our Dealer I just picked the car up from had the Oil level over the "Full" mark and the front tires were both under 40 P.S.I. Simple fixes.

    Enjoy!!

If you want the easiest way to remove oil from the Dealer's possible overfill, grab yourself a Pella oil vacuum pump from any mariner supply shop online; straw hose goes down the dipstick hole, and vacs oil out. Great for complete oil changes as well.

  5. Why do you ask? Has there been an update for 2013 vehicles that changed what can be displayed on the right (efficiency leaf) side?

I ask because I have a '13 which has (3) campaign notices, to be dealer completed yet.

Have you had all the listed updates done, as can be acquired from the ETIS page with your VIN?

  6. Brand new owner here looking to take a 300 mile round trip on the highway.

Any suggestions for maximizing MPG @ 65 mph?

    Thx

  7. it would be nice if it was just a software update that would allow the right side gauge to be more than the the efficiently leaves, audio, phone secondary displays on the older c-maxes...

Have you done all the Dealer updates to your '13?

  8. I have to hand it to Cheezy.  On the forum for 3 days.  44 posts.  At least 6 arguments started.  He's been ignored by at least one member and soon to be ignored by another.

Glad to have you aboard buddy.  Help yourself to a drink and be careful you don't fall overboard and drown.

      Hey Mr. B.C.,

What's going on in your neck o the woods?

Any snow left? Who started all those wildfires and can we blame it on a C-Max?

  9. Obviously you still haven't read the thread very well or otherwise you would know that we fixed the ScanGaugeII code so it reads the right temperture.  Also the Trans heater was a Wolverine M-9 125watt/120vac stick on to the bottom of Trans which Rich FORD removed when they replaced the Trans.  BTW Trans is made of Aluminum, transfers heat very well and 125Watt heater would only raise temp by no more than 20*F by itself, no cooking involved here. :stirpot:

BTW my FORD Dealer didn't think it was necessary to check the fluid if it wasn't leaking.

You also missed the part where :detective:  I figured out  the over heating of Trans is caused  by the shutters not opening until 215*F WT on the FWY and without the covers the WT almost never gets that High. With the covers on you can get the WT above 215*F for the shutters to open allowing air to go through Trans Fluid Cooler.  It is somewhat a balancing  act trying to keep WT above 215*F and allowing some air to go through the Trans Cooler. I have removed lower Grill Cover and TFT kept going up because the WT couldn't get high enough!  Air also circulates through top grill down ICE compartment and out bottom ICE cover for some cooling of ICE compartment components including Trans.

From what I've seen, about 10 Trans failures, I have the highest mileage CMAX/FFH(98mi.) to fail and the only one with Grill Covers on, which would imply the Grill Covers made my Trans last longer.  BTW if your Trans stats to make noise, it is to late to do anything about it, it's already failed.  Your warranty issues aren't relevant  to this thread. :)

    Paul

No, I've read the thread and look at it in the light of a statement analysis, so let's start at the rear of your comments and go backwards:

a.) I don't have warranty issues, my trans. is NOT making noises, your alleged trans. failure notation = 1 failure. No internet hearsay.

b.) Trying to blame the trans. failure on Grill shutters not opening, when you have been running with grill blocks on, does what? I take it THAT is what you told the dealer in NM and they do NOT know about the grill blocks, correct? You've skirted THIS question several times now, so we can assume you have lied to FoMoCo. for free parts and labor.

c.) What YOU said is that YOU found it too difficult to check/change the fluid-and there was ZERO mention of an Advisor telling you to not do so. Anyway, that does not negate the actions which you did NOT take responsibility for. Plain and simple. Trans. was indicating a state of overheating on your gauge(s), you can audibly hear abnormal noises from trans., but you drive it anyway? Sure....

d.) A heater on an aluminum transmission case, heating away for hours in an enclosed garage, is what I have seen you write. IIRC your one notation is of 57 degrees F in the enclosed garage, that day in particular. I'll bet you have cooked the trans fluid yourself, between the heater, and the grill blocks you use. Period.

e.) I saw that the Dealer had an approximate 35% lower temp. read than your gauge, and you were working out some of the math differences in your incorrectly programmed reader. You then switch to a hand held infrared reader, IIRC. That means there were no "high temp." problems to begin with, and you actually created them in the chasing of none-solutions. Can you understand that? Occam's ...

    (8) pages and (5) months wasted when all you'd had to do was check/change the fluid, but no. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever, unless you have another motive set, which is pretty obvious you do. How unfortunate for Ford.

  10. New fluid won't provide better lubrication if the issue is a bad transmission design. New fluid would only help if the issue is that the fluid is wearing out & not providing adequate protection.

If the ATF has been baked with a pre-heater in the garage (As OP states) before even driving anywhere AND the high temps of running with full grill blocks, at OT of 75-85 degrees, who has created the "bad design"?

This "Temperature thread" started with a Scan Gauge tool used, which the OP says is giving false readings at 35% higher than the Dealership's measuring device; if it was reading bad to start with, the ENTIRE premise here of problem/solution is null and void.

Again, KISS;  if it appears that a system is running hot, and it has a cooling/lubricating fluid, you do a check/change of the fluid. What you do NOT do is continue eliminating the FoMoCo cooling features with a sheet of plastic on the grill of the car, AND ignore the fluid levels, continuing to drive as the Trans. noises get worse. Who does that and WHY? Just to spite, who?

So, still no answer as to whether or not the Dealer in NM was made aware of the grill block being used, or if the grill block was removed before arriving there. Now, before some get their panties in a wad let's just take a look from a different angle here; When YOU have what is definitively a Warranty issue, w/o a doubt, but the Service Manager refuses to cover it-why do you think that is? You have never altered your vehicle in violation of the warranty policy, but it's being denied anyway.

Do you know why Occam's Razor is so well applied to vehicle problems? It works to save time and money, and grief. What an idea. Been there, done that, DOZENS of times in the FACTORY doing team "Problem Solving" on Production Lines.

Let's just pause a moment: Who has had Trans failures? Nothing by hearsay- you have had one in YOUR vehicle.

    Thanks for helping out.

  11. Well...I knew it was only a matter of time before I would need to use the "ignore" feature to block a specific member's posts as outlined in following forum help page...(and no, I'm not referring to you Paul):

      http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/index.php?app=core&module=help&do=01&HID=2&hl=ignore

Hey, you know, guy doesn't want to answer VERY basic ?s about a serious issue for a car company, and he contradicts himself about cooling/air flow/installing cooling fans in the engine compartment.

Here's a BASIC idea from my many years of road-racing and building motorcycles, building cars in a Big 3 factory, and just plain wrenching on my own stuff for over 30 years now; Occam's Razor.

IF a system is running HOT, you first CHECK/CHANGE the fluids which lubricate/cool that system. This aint rocket surgery necessitating the lactation of every ounce of teen angst, against the oval.

So Paul, just curious, I read through your thread here and it doesn't say whether you disclosed to the NM dealer/Ford about running the grill blocks. Did you remove them before taking it in, and not disclose running the block off pieces of plastic?

  12. awesome everybody thanks for the response... however, like i said, I AM NO WAY GOING TO BY AN ENERGI... thats it.  I've done the research and I am going to buy a Hybrid VERY VERY soon, im just looking into the costs and how i can negotiate my best price point and extra etc... now, im looking at a 2015 SEL with 302a and pano roof... for 27,500 plus like 2,700 in taxes and fees etc..... i really wish it has the remote start since i read its best to lest the engine charge up the battery since i only commute a few miles i would be using all gas in the mornings esp in the mountains of jersey... but you think i can tell the saleman to give me the remote start and external and interal protection packages and roof racks and ESP plan and 1.9% loan for 28k maybe???? IDK, i've never bough a car over 8k and this is the cost of my little brothers house so im super anxious on spending this much money.... am i asking too much is 27k good enough for the standard 302 bonuses???

Well, just IMO, we NEVER buy new cars: they are the worst investment in our lifetimes, ever.

We just bought a '13 SEL for 50% at what you are looking at possibly spending. Excellent analogy though, IMHO, of comparative pricing for housing. There's used ones out there for decent bargains. Don't let these naysayers scare you from those deals!!

  13. What is a lemon, anyway?  I think it's a very trouble prone car which has problems that, to date, have not been fixable, or are fixed and then reoccur/reappear.

Based on the original post, is that example of a C-Max a lemon, or representative of what we should expect of a C-Max or what we should expect of Ford?

    Necro.

You are correct, there are certain parameters involved in the actual lemon law, and as described they are not met.

It IS rather unbelievable that a Historical owner, self-reporting owning 6 previous Ford vehicles, does not know of a decent dealer and/or is NEVER buying another Ford vehicle again. Notice the band wagon filled up though........

  14. A few weeks ago, when I took my 2013 C-Max in for an oil change, the technician discovered a very slow transmission leak--apparently from a seal somewhere in the unit.  It wasn't so bad that fluid needed adding, but it did need to be repaired under the warranty.

Although I needed the vehicle for a few more weeks, I did take it in for the repair.  It was a big deal that took several days and involved removing the entire engine/drive train.  I had thought that it would be a more simple repair job involving a gasket replacement.

Anyway, it might be a good idea for C-Max owners to have the dealership check for any such transmission leaks before they become a serious problem.

Has anyone else been affected by this issue or was this a unique situation?

How many miles did you have on it and what was your cars production date?

  15. I think Adair traded CMAX for New Escape and didn't see the point of continuing on. :)

    Paul

So, did you fix your ScanGuage that is reading 35% higher than Ford's, or is just that running the grill blocks that has improved the ATF fluid functions so much, that our fluids calculus cannot measure it?

We know, we know; you find it too difficult to pull the leveling plug and check the fluid level, while you're down there gluing L-Channel everywhere for cooling fins !!?  What're you charging for those !!? LOL...

    :clapping:

Over 1 Million C-Maxes built/sold in the United States, there's been AT LEAST 6 documented Transmission failures !!?? OMG, EVERYbody grab your trans cooling lines with a bare hand, and report in immediately how it felt !!?

Trans. failure rate reported here so far of : .0000006 %           Yup, it's REALLY a trend !!? LOL !!

  16. All your questions are answered in this long thread. Surprising as it might seem the Trans runs cooler with covers on.  BTW FORD has never made a CMAX Hybrid in Europe.  :)

    Paul

Yes, it is very surprising that restricting air-cooling somehow makes something cooler.

Why then would you want to install electric fans down there, as you have discussed, if restricting air flow is lowering the temps.?

I did not see answers to these questions in the thread, except that you do mention changing the ATF fluid is too difficult for you.

    Very interesting indeed.

  17.  It does look like people who do a  lot of FWY driving are having the bulk of the problems, maybe all.

I like the idea of using synthetic AFT, it couldn't hurt.  I don't know that FORD has done anything to solve the Trans problem, only time will tell. ;)

    Paul

IIRC, this is Gen 3 of this Ford Hybrid platform which has, how many years of beta testing in Europe already? IIRC, Eurpoe Ford has been building these since 2003? So, their production #s should; be around 100-150K a year average, over the last 12 years.

Did you disclose to the Ford Dealer that you were running a large grill cover when they replaced your transmission? Which Ford Dealer did you go to?

Isn't it possible that in running grill covers to increase temperatures in the engine bay compartment, you had actually cooked the transmission fluids, before you starting taking temps?

In that you have not checked the ATF level, the Dealer may not have put in the proper amount when they did the swap, being a possibility as well?

I find it weird that you'll fab and glue L-Channel to the bottom of your tranny, but you say checking the fluid level is too difficult?

  18. Not to worry, I'm sure that you'll be banned soon enough.

    Banned for?

The Cyber-Stalking that you are doing is now a Federal crime, all your digital finger-prints are here. I'm not the one stalking and name calling other members here.

Very good, have a nice day.

  19. Sounds like you're having a bad day, I'm sorry for you.

markd, that's some great gas lighting there, you're a true manipulator. I'm sorry for the people that are still left in your life.

I'm having a great day, with the exception of your cyber-Stalking my posts; name calling and other violations of this site's policies.
