  1. EV+ mode??? Would that mean turning on the ECO mode? If so, yes, I did turn on the ECo Mode......
  2. I did take my 2016 C-max to the dealer who had said they had diagnostic equipment to test the health of the HVB. I would have liked to see how/type of testing device used...but no one is allowed in the service area other then employees. Normal 12v Batteries have very simple testing devices that allow a test of Health Idle and under load....I just wonder if Ford/Dealers have similar Testing Equipment????? I will admit, this is one of those gut feelings on my part as to the HVB health. Prior to 3 mos ago, the battery symbol "Lived in the Upper zone (40% to 70%) and now its 15% to maybe 55%. A few times it has gone to perhaps 75%...but runs down quickly traveling in EV. I cannot say I notice the vehicle going from EV to ICE due to low battery levels...my normal driving is and has been a good mixture of speeds that switches ICE (Power) to EV (Coasting , etc) at reasonable rates given I drive in mostly very high Traffic/lots of Traffic lights/slowing down with Traffic etc. Bottom line; its just that feeling I get that the batteries after 2.5 yrs; 6,000 Miles....is not holding its charge as it did prior to several mos ago. With the dealer saying they saw nothing wrong I have little choice here. Another dealer isn't an option for me, no other Ford dealers in the area...and what may sound contrary to all of this, I do trust the dealer where I purchased the car and had the HVB tested, in fact; although the Service Mgr did not do the testing, he was the person I was working with.....problem is, dealers in my area see/service very..very few Ford Hybrids....my Dealer maybe sold under 8 C-Max's in a given year if that...... Be nice to turn off the battery display///I'd never know the difference.....
  3. Auto headlights.....I have had the switch for headlights in "Auto" position and the lights have come on when I have started the car when Headlights were needed. They have gone off as I recall....as designed....a short time after I have turned off the initiation. I have never been driving when the headlights would have needed to come on..... Based on this it would point away from the dashboard sensor, the BCM...is it a part inside the My Ford Touchscreen...and easy replacement? Based on your detailed description,,,replacing the sensor, I would just go with turning off the AUTO DIM setting....rather than having the Dash Torn down. I have learned, the hard way, if it isn't a safety issue, and its tear down, and the feature is not necessary...Like AUTO DIM....leave it alone. Golfer...are you by chance a Ford tech? Perhaps you would not want to answer...but I have read several Posts by you and you are extremely Technically knowledgeably regarding the C-Max.....your response here is very appreciated
  4. At another site I read several Posting regarding My Ford Touchscreen flickering....suggestion was to go to the Display Menu....Auto Dim....and turn it off (mine was set to on). So far no flicker/flashes dim to bright.....and the display is Bright (and can be adjusted manually to be dimmer...). This issue, flickering/flashing dim to Bright...to dim, its been occasionally noticed since I purchased car, but of late it became a lot more frequent. So where is the sensor for the My Ford Touchscreen? Is it the small module I see Center of Dashboard, near inside of windshield? That being so, and, if it needs to be replaced to correct the Auto-Dim issue...and the Dashboard has to be disassembled to replace it...no way I will have the sensor replaced. If I can avoid it, I hate having major disassembly's.... never goes back the way it was from the factory.
  5. 2016 Ford C-max SEL; The Center Display, might be called MY FORD (correct me please)....its lighting during the day (Headlights off) will flicker and at times intermittently flash Bright...than DIM. This of course is annoying because you cannot help seeing this flickering/flashing from your peripheral vision as your driving. This display seems/might be lite by Fluorescent light...(the symptoms I have described is like an Interior Fluorescent Light that flickers like when you see a defective Fluorescent Flash to full brightness..than to dim, etc). Or, might it have a separate sensor that depending on the daylight...automatically adjust based on the sensor and this senor is defective causing the issues..... When I turn on the Headlights and this display changes to the night time Black background...I have not notices this flickering..... Any feedback, opinions? I just have that feeling when I take it in for service the issue will decide not to display. I tried taking Video with my Smartphone...but the iris\shutter (found no way to turn this off) of the phone quickly adjust to ideal lighting and all yoy see is the Flash/washout as the display changes from dim to bright
  6. Ford...just release a 2019 in a crossover smaller SUV design with the same Power train as the C-Max; ICE and EV. The industry history shows more buyers are going for trucks and the SUV design...and with the demise of the C-max Hybryd, Ford has a Market they easily could Fill since they have the Power Train.....ICE\EV non-Plug-in. I am still holding out for the 2019 Escape with the C-max Hybryd Power Train even though that power Train may need a little higher HP to handle the larger Escape. I have always believed had Ford stood behind the C-Max, marketed the C-Max like it did it trucks, they would have sold a Bunch more C-max's.....everyone that I have ever told that I drive a C-Max, or Ford C-Max...I get, what is That, never heard of that car. Most owners of the C-Max report MPG darn near close or better than the Toyota Prius.. .which was the goal Ford was trying to match....yet Ford decided to drop the C-max...and in my opinion, Ford Motor company is the sole cause of the C-Max's demise....not the public.
  7. Two articles; 2 different outlooks. Hope yours is right...seems other manufacturers like Kia, released Hybrids then followed with Plug-in. Not sure how the C-Max releases were offered. By the way, still after 7 mos really impressed with my 2018 Kia Hybryd....its averaging 50mpg whereas C-Max is 40MPG..again impact here is, Kia Combined HP is 50HP less then C-Max. It however no matter the Car, Make..etc, you see very few Hybrids on the road down here in Central Florida...this area just doesn't seem to be an attractive Market for Hybrids; even Dealers stock few to none. As long as Gas prices remain relatively low; hybrid sales will be low. Our gas ranges (Regular) from 258.9 to 279.9 and has flipped between those lows and highs for the past 6 months.
  8. Appears Ford has decided not to replace the demise of C-max with a SubCompact Hybryd in 2019. Seems I read that the 2019 Escape was going to be released as a Hybryd but according to what I have read, the 2019 will only be available as a Plug-in. "According an August report from industry trade journal Automotive News(subscription required), next year it will launch a Ford Escape plug-in hybrid along with a conventional hybrid version of its Ford Expedition full-size SUV. Those vehicles' luxury counterparts, the Lincoln MKC compact crossover and Lincoln Expedition full-size SUV, will similarly get plug-in hybrid and hybrid powertrains respectively." However, those wanting a Hybryd will need to a Ford Luxury vehicle like the Lincoln MKC or a full size Expedition. Totally disappointing to me; I was hoping to Trade my 2016 C-Max Hybryd...for a 2019 model hybryd but I am not interested in a high end or a full size SUV....... Given my plan of never owing a vehicle that is not covered under a Full Manufacturing Warranty (I won't purpose those expensive extended Warranties).....could be I won't own a Ford when my 2016 C-Max nears the end of the Full Ford Warranty. I feel Ford is missing a real opportunity by not offering a replacement for the market they vacated with the demise of the C-max...by not offering the Escape in a Hybryd in 2019......
  9. Paul.....I live in West Central Florida....originally from Maryland. Its a good thing it doesn't snow in Florida, if it did, the kids wouldn't be able to Sleigh Ride....Not many hills and those that are hills to speak of, nothing like the Hills I remember in Maryland. So the majority of my regeneration is slowing down and Braking. Most of any Hills I drive on are over passes.......
  10. My concern; and I wrote this is another Thread.....is that my battery Symbol....until about 60 days ago.....with my driving style, the display would show a Charge that averaged half or better....for the past 60 days this display averages below half. Occasionally it might get to 75%...but quickly will discharge back to below half. Watching Paul's' Video, his Battery display averaged higher..... Now i realize not everyone's drive is the same....more hills, faster speeds, etc...but, as I have written, prior to 60 days ago, my display always averaged higher...and now its averages much lower.... I just seem to find myself driving more to get the battery charged up, ie, invoke ICE more..... I did speak with my dealer who has said that there is a Diagnostic Test that will determine the health of the battery....guess its time to setup an appt. Nice to know the battery is covered at 100% replacement for 8 yrs.......
  11. I have been displaying a customized left dash display....and did change to EMPOWER to look at it. Wish I knew how to interrupt what I see? I mean I see the left side is labeled KW (no numbers) and the right side MPG...and shows in numbers MPG. I do see the Open Blue Bar...that appears in 2 parts.....but other than seeing this, I cannot figure out how to use what I see to be understandable...... Is there a Video or detailed narrative that would teach me how to use EMPOWER beneficially? SOC used in a reply above must mean something regarding the Charge...State Of Charge?
  12. Unreal that replacement of such a minor part would be so difficult... I noticed fluid leaking from around the Inverter System Controller Reservoir black plastic cap. Ford had some issies getting the right cap since there are several different Inverters used. The cap is harnessed to the Reservoir Tank by a Ball type male plastic fitting that fits into a female molded socket. Getting the old one out was unreal, it was like you could have lifted the car up off the ground it was so tightly locked in. With prying and pulling we got it out. So now you can only image if it was so hard getting out, since it is usually easier to pry something out than push something in....the insertion of the new Caps ball and joint as I will call it....was unreal. It would not pimply just push in to the molded socket....it is made of a hard plastic and it would not squeeze into the Socket. I tried using some grease, nope. I tried boiling water hoping the plastic would soften...nope. I finally had to snipe a small slit out of the Male Ball so that the ball could squeeze into the socket. Looking at the other reservoirs, Brake Fluid, Anti-Freeze, Windshield Washer...all have caps, those caps are also linked to their reservoirs but none use this same Ball/Joint arrangement and the caps are much easier to replace if need be. No Idea why it was Fords idea to link the Inverter Reservoir to where it is so very difficult to replace. Oh well, should anyone else ever find themselves replacing this Cap....it will be know how I finally got the new one on. I could have just left it unlinked....the Cap would have never fallen off or gotten lost...I just was determined to put it back on like it was from the factory.
  13. Thanks to all....gives me some piece of mind should I decide to keep the max beyond 3 yrs....given costs of those batteries would be very expensive. I am hoping the 2019 Escape with the Cmax's Hybryd Power train (gas\Elec; Not Plug-in)...will be on the market by early 2019.
  14. 2016 Ford C-Max....Hybryd (not Plug-in). Battery warranty 8yr/100,000? During this Hybryd Warranty period as shown above...Battery is is fully covered by Ford up to the 8yr/100,000 Miles....not Pro-rated after the basic 3 yr Warranty?
  15. Paul; Are you saying you think the Cmax if kept below 45mph, level road and remains in EV....that the Cmax might travel 3 to 4 miles before the charge would get down to a level to switch into ICE? My Cmax is 26 mos old...6K...and it just seems like the Battery symbol is slow to display a high charge but Fast (when driving in EV) to discharge. I am going to the Dealer in the next few days and will inquiry if there is a dealer preformed test to Test the health of the Battery. I understand the battery Warranty is 8yrs/100K...but after 3yrs that warranty most likely is Pro-Rated.
  16. 0-60 Cmax 7.9; Niro 8.6....would support what I wrote, Niro wouldn't be far behind the CMax.....and with speed the downside is lower Gas Mileage. Like I wrote, owning both cars, I like both of them. A real plus on the CMax is its AC. By far the AC in the CMax gets cooler faster than any other Car I have ever owned and the shear volume of supply air given the very Large AC vents is terrific and cools down a car very quickly. The Niro was the Only Hybryd I researched that operated almost like the CMax.... I personally believe that had Ford stayed with the CMax, updated its exterior styling, its size, SUV Design, etc...it could have been a top selling Hybryd. In fact, the Cmax is manufactured in Europe with rear sliding doors....but Ford had reported 2 years ago when that European model was released that the model would never come to the US. Is Ford still manufacturing the CMax in Europe?
  17. Lets get down to the mechanics....if you have a car with combined HP of 139 vs a car with Combined HP of 188.....surely having 50hp more that car should accelerator more quickly...and the Cmax does accelerate more quickly. The downside of that is, the faster you accelerate the lower your overall Gas Mileage (I know you were referring to acceleration remaining on the EV as long as possible for the test; but it may be that the EV of the Cmax puts out more Hp than that of the Niro). I did not mean to say my Niro can accelerate as quickly as my C-Max....it doesn't, but it has more acceleration than I or most will ever need. I am however not sure in a test the Niro will be that far behind the Cmax. Lets keep this in mind, as I wrote previously, a Hybryd for most people isn't purchased for speed, its for its gas Mileage and in my real life ownership and I don't drive either car any differently....the Niro is getting Approx 10 to 12 miles per gallon more than the Cmax. I actually purchased the SEL also...top of the Line. In all due respect, you test drove the Niro...and you drive the Cmax all the time. I am driving both the Cmax and the Niro all the time. I find the handling of both cars excellent and I enjoy driving both cars. I am just glad that given the demise of the CMax, Kia released the Niro otherwise I might have had to purchase a Non-Hybryd vehicle. I have owned the CMax for 2 Years; the Niro EX for 6 months. My concerns now, what will the CMax bring in a Trade-in in 2019 when I am ready to replace it with a new Vehicle. My other concern now is the Battery in the CMax....by the dashboard Battery symbol, it seems to be slow to increase charge, and quick to show a lower charge...... I do figure Gas Mileage by actual pen and Paper/by math....and in both cars I fine the Gas Mileage is a little over stated by their On-board Displays.
  18. I have the 2018 Kia Niro....I am getting anywhere from 52 to 55 MPG in mixed driving. Driving both the CMax and the Niro....I do not notice a difference/lack EV power off the start and overall it lacked power other than with the CMax CVT you feel no shift, in the Niro you do. Here's how I look at buying and driving a Hybryd. If you want a speedy, powerful car that means you will be heavy on the Gas, don't buy a Hybryd. You buy a Hybryd not for speed or Power, you buy it to get high Gas Mileage. I like/enjoy both cars...although they operate slightly different, I can get the CMax in EV most of the times by just a slight eases off the accelerator, that doesn't always work for the Niro. But both cars generally are driver the trips/similar...and the CMax averages 40 to 42 mpg, the Niro 52 to 58 mpg. I do feel the Niro as is the case for most foreign cars, has a better quality build....my CMax was delivered with 1 Headlight lens molded poorly, the other has lose particles inside of it, a portion of the dashboard had to be replaced as it was badly scratched, and the headliner has a small defect. I have only purchased 2 Foreign cars in my Long driving life, a Honda CR-V and this Niro, neither of these Cars had any appearance issues. It is because of my ownership of the CMax that I purchased another Hybryd.....I am sold on them. I had read the other 2 Posts....I am sure different drivers will always come away with different results.....had Ford not terminated the C-Max I still feel I would have gone with the 2018 Niro only because my experience with the CMax's quality build was a little disappointing. I am willing in 2019 when my CMax reaches 3 yrs in service to look at and consider the Escape Hybrid.....
  19. There are so many talented people that take their time to perform different driving test...wondering if anyone has ever done this.... Driven the C-Max Hybryd at a Steady Speed to where it remained in EV Mode where at the start the Battery symbol displayed almost a full charge....how many miles without stopping until the charge ran down that the ICE kicked in because the Battery charge could no longer power the EV (if it is even possible to find a stretch of road where it could be done)
  20. Took a look at Link for extended Warranty.....they don't offer the warranty in Florida. What that means is, they could not get approval from the Florida Insurance dept to sell their product to residents in Florida.....which can be a red Flag. Is nice to know most if not all major parts of the Hybryd system is covered beyond the 3/36.....makes me feel a little better should I decided to keep the C-Max longer than 3/36. As to MPG...on the Kia. I specifically stayed away from the LX Model that has a lower MPG...due to extra equipment and it being heavier.....the FE and Ex (which I have) models provide the highest MPG. Once again, had Ford not announced the end of the C-Max....I don't know whether I would have purchased the 2018 C-Max or 2018 Kia. I may have leaned a little more toward the Kia, only because it was different and I like trying out new and different Products...and because I leased the 2018 KIA....it meant in 3 yrs I would just be giving it back. So far...great reviews on the Kia....like I wrote, it runs more off the ICE than the C-Max does...but overall its gloving 10 MPG. Like I wrote in another POST, I just wish for my piece of Mind.....the C-Max's battery symbol....the C-Max's battery symbol use to remain in a 30% to 80% range...and now it seems to run in the 15% to 60% range..thinking that might be an indicator of Battery packs going bad....I was assured in that other Post...it isn't so and not to be concerned...wish I could get past it. But I am guessing the 8/100 Hybryd extended warranty on the Battery pack is based on a Pro-Rated coverage basis...
  21. I really would have thought the Hybryd would have ripe for the New EcoSport given its size. I believe it is smaller than the Escape. I would like to trade in 2019 my 2016 C-Max....not because I am unhappy with it, to the contrary, but even tho after 3yrs or 36,000 I believe its Power train Warranty is 5yrs/60,000, and batteries 8yrs 80,000???? there still remains all the electronics that will cease to have warranty coverage once my icicle reached 3 yrs old. Extended Warranties are available, even direct from Ford, I simply feel they are over Priced and they also have excludes of what is covered. I am at a point in my life where....keep a car right up until its factory Warranty expires; trade it for new. I've seen some repair Bills on vehicles from friends out of Warranty....and they are out of sight. Given today's Electronic I have my concerns of trusting an electronic Type repair to an Independent repair shop. So to remain with a Ford. Hybryd vehicle, Ford would need to have a small version Hybryd Hybryd in the market by 2/2019. I recently purchased as my 2nd car a 2018 Kia Niro, a Hybryd...operates similar to the C-Max except for the Tranny...it has a Dual Clutch 6 speed Tranny. I like both cars....the C-Max will run on Electric Power at lower speeds more so that the Niro, but, because the Niro has lower overall hp....it gets up to 10 to -12 per gallon more than the C-max...and I drive the C-max and Niro in similar driving patterns. The Dual Clutch Tranny is different..but there is no Torque Converter to absorb Power efficiency... another reason for the higher GPM.....
  22. The last of the Production for the C-max has passed in Michigan, no plans to shift production to Mexico for this Model, its gone. A real shame, excellent Hybryd, Ford just failed to get behind the C-max and market it...all over the Gas Mileage issue with the Prius. So what's next for this Hybryd Power-train\technology? It goes into the EcoSport small SUV in 2019? Or Escape? The operational of the C-Max's technology going forward warrants it continued use....a lot went into its development and Ford would be stupid not to continue to offer this Hybryd in another "smaller" SUV. Problem is as I see it, larger Vehicle, heavier vehicle, lower MPG...but I'd rather see the Lower MPG then this Technology disappearing as well. So who knows, what's next for the C-max's Technology?
  23. "Other than DTC and perhaps messages being displayed, I'm not aware of anything that you can readily look at with respect to the HVB health." This line caught my attention...and may be the answer I am looking for to settle my concerns regarding the battery(S). 1) Do not know what DTC means? 2) "Messages displayed".....An alert will display in the Instrument Panel if the Battery(s) need attention\not charging properly\defective? It would make sense that such an alert would be programmed\designed into the electronics of thew C-Max given the Importance of the Battery(s) to the performance of the vehicle. I am just trying to find out if something is starting to, or is going badly as to the battery(s) I don't need to wonder...as, an Alert will display advising me to seek Service for the Battery(s).
  24. Thank you..... If, the health of the High Voltage battery(s) were to be getting bad, I would only know that if I Gas Mileage was decreasing? Your detailed explanation educated me, this add'l question is....other than poor Gas Mileage, is there anything within the Vehicles computerized system that would display alerting me to get the battery(s) Checked? The change that I have noticed is the symbol....as I wrote, it used to run lets say (using the symbol) 35% to 80% and now its normal is 15% to 60%.......
  25. Is there away to Test the Health of the battery(s)? 2016 Ford C-Max; 5,500 Miles Purchase date 4/9/16 I am having concerns that the Batteries (Vehicle is NOT Plugin model....sure there is a better name)....seems battery is taking longer to charge and runs down more quickly. I have actually been purposely driving it hard (keeping it out of EV) to get battery per symbol to get into the 80% range....but as I wrote, driving it normally to where EV is in use, Charge seem more quickly to get down into the 15% area. Is there away to test the health of the battery(s)? Can it be done by some method with car? Only at dealership? If battery(s) health was bad a Warning light would display on dashboard?
