  1. So 1) what is so different about the Elec throttle Body Ford will replace the org part with 2) since they knew this issue has been surfacing since at least 2014 (and perhaps before that but it was in 2014 they 1st took action)...why did they continue to build vehicles with this Throttle issue 3) and, what is there about the Replacement Throttle Body that this issue "won't" contaminate....again.... I realize some or all of these questions may not have answers, but you never know until you ask......
  2. How would I attach a copy of the document ...I can copy it and save it as a pdf on my PC, its how do I import to a Response here in this Post?
  3. The letter received refers to "electronic throttle body may develop Contamination" Anyone one know exactly what that means? I feeble mind can only wrap around fuel mixture interaction with the medal Throttle Body causes this contamination that "fouls" up the Throttle Body causing the Computer to sense Engine issues putting it into safe mode when it not an internal ICE issue at all; the only inconvenience if it happens the Vehicle goes to safe Mode rendering the Vehicles top speed of whatever...15/20mph...but other than that, no real damage is, or will take Place. Am I even Close? If this Throttle is replaced, what will prevent it from happening again? The new throttle body is made from different metals/parts? Some have written this goes back to 2015....but that CSP reads more like it was/is more Internal ICE than Throttle...... I just resist the tear-down of a factory build although I feel my dealer has competent Service Techs. The C-Max has only been to the dealer for Oil change (after a few cosmetic parts had to be replaced on delivery). I have a 2014 Honda CR-V; its only been to the dealer in 3.5 yrs for 3 Oil changes...and that is it.
  4. Checked that site; when I searched for 2016 C-Max...Throttle Body...it came back with No results
  5. Received a letter from Ford requesting I take my 2016 C-Max to the dealer for this Recall; even though its not called a recall nor is that word used in the notification letter. The repair deals with the electronic throttle body that "may" develop contamination resulting in the vehicle entering a protective low speed mode. Has anyone had this work performed? If so, did you wait while the repairs was performed and how long did it take? I look under the hood and see such a compacted work area I hate to think that this Throttle body requires a lot of disassembly to replace it...always concerned about all being put back together as it was when it left the factory. I am guessing the Throttle Body is located under the large Black cover and is easily accessible? I have had my 2016 since Apr 2016 and until now, its not been in the dealer for anything except an Oil/Filter change....so this recall (that is what I will call it)...is a disappointment.
  6. We went thru Hurricane Irma and lost Electric for 2 nights....had it gone a 3rd night, we seriously considered sleeping in the C-Max with the AC running/Garage door up. I do wonder how often in a segment of 1 hr the ICE would have kicked in to charge the Battery...and how long the ICE would have run to charge the batteries. May sound a little out there but there was no way we were leaving our Home unprotected....after the storm and all homes and streets in total darkness.
  7. That sounds like some serious tear down....and honestly, I doubt it will all go back like it was from the Factory. May just live with the occasional thump....All else is good; great mileage...40+ mpg in Florida where AC is running all the time. This might be one of those things that you are better leaving as is.
  8. I am in no way questioning your response, you certainly must know the mechanics of the 2016 C-max just based on your reply. I thought mostly all Fuel Pumps were located inside gas tanks? The C-max positions the Fuel Pump separate from the Fuel tank and under the right rear Seat.....odd place to place and run Gasoline......Its accessed by removing the seat? Underneath the Vehicle? Your explanation sure points as the cause because I hear this same noise 8 out of 10 times when I push the Start Button and like you wrote, the Fuel starts as soon as the vehicle is started..... Try to do a Google search for how to replace the Fuel Pump, or, see a picture of where it is located, but could not find anything.......
  9. 2016 Ford C-Max....love the car; hate a few annoyances... About 2 months following Purchase I began to hear a Thud\perhaps more like a thump from the rear Right Cargo area. Paying close attention when I hear this noise I have pinned it down to when I pull from a stopped position at a slow speed where the Electric engine is powering the Car and quickly accelerate were it hands off to the Elec Engine I hear the Noise. If I watch the instrument Panel I can see the Blue Band, hear the noise and see the White appear....(Elec handing off to Gas). If, I slowly start, see Blue Bar about 1/3rd up and than accelerate and Elec takes over, I don't hear the Noise. Also, all coasting speeds......switching from Elec to gas, I never hear any noise. So I hear this noise only at a slow startup with a quick acceleration to change from Elec to Gas. Obviously there are solenoids/relays or whatever the part must be called in this rear Cargo area that is handling the Change-overs, charge the battery, Battery running elec engine, etc.....and it would be a guess on my part, this part is the cause of the Noise. Can't think its normal because 1) I don't recall this noise until several months following purchase 2) it only makes the noise with a slow startup and fast acceleration 3) a friends C-max...never makes the noise. Anyone else with any year C-max experienced this Noise? Yes, eventually I will take this into my dealer but although the noise is annoying, the C-Max is running great with 42MPG is a Very busy loaded with Traffic lights community. The other annoyance is a HISSING sound coming off the brakes, again, other then the noise is annoying, the brakes are great...anyone experience this noise?
  10. Guess it ill be to the dealer in the near future. The radaitor fan Motor obvious is the same one Ford put on its 2015 F-150 Truck that many owners experienced this exact same issue.......some of those owners reported having the radiator motor replaced several times before getting one that did not squeak on Power On and spin down. The motor does not squeak once its a normal speed.......dang; hate the thought of getting it replaced.....maybe teardown isn't as bad as I think it might be.
  11. Ford has released a bulletin covering possible issues with floor pan welded joints on some 2016 C-Max and Focus. Anyone heard any further news on this, or, gotten recall Notice? I checked with my dealer and they have nothing in their system
  12. Would someone provide details as to the 2 Bar acceleration technique....both text and pictures would be great. I did a search using the string and nothing was found. I love my 2016 C-Max; just wish I could get to the bottom of why on some hands off from EV to ICE at lower speeds I hear a click sounding noise from the right rear cargo area. What is perplexing, it doesn't make this sound every time....its like an intermittent issue....more difficult to pinpoint and fix.
  13. I did that ...that is, filled on my way and filled up when I got back,,,,actual Math was 36.7. I did not add that to my Post because when I wrote in my Prior Post that I did the actual math to come up that my 38mpg, someone wrote that I must have gotten the high Mileage because on my after trip Fill-up I was most likely on a slope and maybe didn't get a good fill-up.
  14. As discussed and promised, I have driven the trip from my Home to Disney/Magic Kingdom miles totaling Approx 210 Miles round trip... driving my 2014 Honda CR-V.....90% Highway averaging 65mph; the other 10% off highway getting to and from my House to the Interstate and, in a 4+ mile Bumper to Bumper, stop & Go traffic backup on Interstate. I got 37.0 mpg. OK, I wrote I had gotten on this same highway trip in the past 38mpg...when several wrote not possible for a CR-V. This trip we drove both ways with the Windows down (more air drag...less gpm). The other trip at 38mpg, as I recall, windows closed AC running. I wanted to Post the Picture I took of my CR-V's Mileage display showing 37.0....but did not see a menu item that allows a Picture to be uploaded from my Phone....or PC where I transferred the Picture to. If anyone can provide an easy way to upload my MPG Picture off my Android Phone\or Windows PC....please provide and I'll Upload the Pic.
  15. 2016 Ford C-Max. Is there a Menu display that will show you the % of Oil Life? My Honda has that Menu and it simply displays oil ....60% Oil Life left. I do intend with my driving to change Oil & Filter annually as by yearly mileage is Approx 5,000...and short trips....but I would be interested to see what the Oil Life display shows on my C-Max before I change the Oil\Filter.
  16. My take on the Unknown...whats to happen with the Ford C-max....surely no one believes Ford doesn't know the future Plans for the car....but to announce it would surely negatively impact sales of the Current year 2017 C-Max. It's about marketing........ It must be me, I had a Chevy model, 2 years after purchase, it was discontinued, I had a 1999 Plymouth MiniVan; 2 years after purchase...Plymouth went away, and Now, I have a 2016 C-Max..... I cannot say I was "Hurt" on Trade-in Values......
  17. 2016 Ford C-Max SEL......So what's this all about? In settings you can select the clock to the GPS Time. When you do that you get a warning that the GPS Time will not adjust to Daylight Savings Time...... Heck, my $90.00 Garmin GPS adjusts its time not only to the time Zone you are traveling in, but also the local time of that area to include when Daylight Savings times starts, ends..... When I called Ford about this they said, ready for this, the Clock will not be correct during Daylight Savings times periods because to do so would cause issues for the 2 States that do not observe Day Light Savings Time. Ford play-cakes 2 states out of....50? So year round in 2 states the clock will be correct and in the other 48 States the Clock will be wrong during Daylight Savings Times unless the Owner manually changes the time. Wow...... 2016....most clocks now will adjust themselves to Daylight Savings times....its either programmed into the clock workings, or the clock syncs to a Satellite clock but not in Ford Vehicles.
  18. 2016 C-Max SEL....I was told before purchase by sales, and, it is documented at Ford Website, and it is Printed in my Owners manual , that Sync 3 Voice commands would respond to Climate Control commands such as, Temperature changes. I even called Ford Customer Service who agreed, Sync 3 controlled Climate and had me sit in car and talked thru the steps with of course, nothing happening. I found Customer Service and the Specialized Sync 3 Units agents of absolutely no help. If you were told the feature is there, if your Owners manual that shows you vehicle and Year comes with a Special Sync 3 manual, which was in my Car and explains how to use this feature, and, the Ford Website shows Voice Commands for the vehicle year and model at their website....and no one at Ford cared....that the Model really did not have Climate Voice Command....would you be Upset? It's not like you can return a car because it failed to have the Feature as you would had you purchased a Device from a retailer. Basically Ford gave me, the manual labeled 2016 Ford C-Max Sync 3 which shows how to use Voice Command Climate control should not have been packaged with my owners Manuals and their Website is in error (and remains that way even today). Did anyone else get mislead on this feature? The other issue with Sync 3 that Frustrates me is the valid command words. I do fine with the Audio, although I wish it had the most basic command, adjust volume to...and say the volume Number, and...Navigation, Traffic and Weather but here's my #1 frustration....a Command to get back to the HOME SCREEN. I have come to Learn that there are Voice Commands that do work that I never found in my Manual. But no matter what screen you Navigate to...most of the time you always at some point want to get back to the HOME SCREEN.....and how I must get there is use the Return Arrow in the Top Left of the screen until the "HOUSE" Icon appears...and pressing that Icon several times finally gets me back to a screen where you see the Home Screen Icon. I have tried saying Home, Home screen...I always get that dang error noise and the voice saying not a Valid...or something similar. Has anyone managed to use a Voice Command to always Return the Sync 3 Screen display back to the Home Page?
  19. This thread has a bunch of Interesting details on the Niro......I test drove a Niro...the acceleration from stopped position I did find very sluggish as compared to my 2016 C-max and that is what sticks in my mind from my test drive. I didn't really Notice EV was not active in speeds greater that 40 MPH (I saw my C-Max in EV at 65 MPH with slight acceleration). I am told the C-max can travel at speeds on EV up to 85 mph. But here's my bottom line; Ford apparently has decided to abandon the C-Max in 2018 or 2019. Its vehicle size goes away and Ford will build some of its larger vehicles with the C-max Technology (F-150\Explorer)...and of course...resulting in lower MPG. So the Hybrid Compact SUV design will be only offered (as I know it today) in the Niro and the Prius. I don't like the looks of the Pruis....so it leaves me with the Niro. I have really liked my 2016 C-Max averaging 43MPG in its 2,500 driving experience. It does have a few issues, one of which is a Squeaking Radiator Fan Motor (an issue reported on 2016 Ford F-150 as well). I am not ready to have the car torn apart to replace the Fan Motor and its gigantic Shroud...it cannot be removed from the top...and looking at bottom engine compartment clearance, there is a lot of stuff that would need to be removed to get it out that way to replace it. So for now, I'll put up with the squeak when the Radiator Fan motor spins down to a stop. The other noise is the Keyless Start...it sometimes make a loud Thud.....most other Keyless starting Vehicles I have been in are totally silent (except for the ones that are gas...and of course you hear the Gas Engine Startup). I hate the fact that going forward that the only Hybrid vehicles in the C-Max style may be the Niro and the Pruis.
  20. Just seems to me Ford isn't going to get out of the Hybrid arena, they are just tossing out the small Hybrid (C-max)...and putting the Technology into larger vehicles....F-150, Explorer....and other models. Their is a market for this smaller Hybrid vehicle but it would appear Ford doesn't have the desire in the US to keep the line going....yet, they will keep the C-Max in production in Europe. I never understood why Ford released the C-Max with rear sliding doors in Europe and simply reported that model would never be offered in the US. That one puzzled me because that could be the Feature that would make this vehicle take a serious run at the Prius...the vehicle Ford produced the C-Max to knock Prius off the top. I'd go for a New Max in a Flash as my second car if it were offered with rear sliding Doors. Apparently Ford isn't listening....like I wrote, in the entire 2016 year...the year I purchased my C-Max, in my TampaBay area (makes up about 5 Ford dealerships)...the Combined Dealership yearly Inventory on the 2016 couldn't have been greater than 8 to 10 C-Max's. Right now, that inventory for the 2017 model...is 3....and that has been so since early February. Maybe Ford will change its mind...they seem to be doing a lot of that recently....and keep this size Hybrid Vehicle in their 2019 or 2020 model year. In the meantime, I think I might get a little more serious on the Kia Niro LX Model....I do like its Warranty and the car looks from the outside almost identical to the C-Max....just would have liked it with the CVT Transmission.
  21. This is really a very nice great riding\Driving Hybryd....that in my case, doesn't need to be tethered an AC source.....I would never like a car that requires plugging in to charge a Battery. What I keep scratching my head over, is why 1) Ford never showcased this Vehicle, at least in my State of Florida 2) Ford is disappointed in its sales and will discontinue\re-brand this Vehicle after the 2017 Run, or maybe the 2018 Run and who knows right now, if it will be the same Vehicle or altogether gone. When I tell people what I drive they say they have never heard of the car....you won't sell what you fail to advertise to the Public. I thought the very slightest of vibration going from EV to ICE was normal; after all, the ICE has to start.....and it doesn't always occur at every Hand off and in no way impacts the forward movement or lack of Power..... I've ridden in a Few Chevy's that shutoff when they come to a Stop at a Traffic light, etc...and re-start when you take your foot off the gas, now there's some vibration.
  22. Might this link help http://www.autonews.com/article/20160815/OEM04/308159952/flood-of-fresh-fords-starts-in-18 it dated August 2016
  23. I always get the 2 confused....you probably are right in that it will become an Escape Hybrid... because what I read about this re-branding mentioned that the C-Max size-wise would be a good fit into the Model line and do better with a Name that is better known.... Thanks for pointing that out
