  1. So after being at the mechanics for almost 2 weeks, they determined the body control module is bad and they need to replace it. It’ll take 3 days to get the parts and get it all fixed so fingers crossed this works!
  2. After the error message pops up it does the normal shut off sequence like I hit the button
  3. I originally posted about this in the keys and alarms thread because I thought it was an issue with my fob, but I think I may have something seriously wrong with my car and I’m not sure what it could be. Last time I took it in, the Ford dealership could not find an issue. The issues were not as frequent, so I can understand why they couldn’t replicate the problem. However, they’re becoming more and more frequent and I have no idea what to do. The issues I’ve been experiencing are: - Car has been having problems recognizing my fob. None of the buttons will work at least once a day and it takes a minute to get my car started because it gives me the “no key detected” error message. When it does finally recognize it, the check engine light comes on and I can’t get the car to move. I have to press the start/stop button again to get it fully started. This morning the error message “starting system failure” or something to that extent popped up. This is the first time I’ve seen this error message. I bought a brand new fob from the dealership a couple of months ago and my old fob which is now my spare has a brand new battery in it. - Going along with the fob issues, when I get out after turning off the car, it sometimes won’t let me lock it. Recently, it works fine but then later I can’t get it unlocked again and I have to use the manual key. I’ve stopped trying to lock my car after being locked out twice for a couple of reasons. The first being I can’t get the key to turn in the lock, even using the slot in the fob for it to fit into for extra leverage, so I have to ask for help which isn’t always available. The second is once I do get it unlocked, the key makes the car alarm go off and since I have to be at work at 5:30am, I don’t want to set off the alarm that early in the morning and wake up my neighbors. Once I get it started after being locked out, my information display is on a different screen than the one I left it on. When my new fob was programmed they must’ve updated some system in my car because the display was completely different and it wasn’t that they selected a different display, the options to choose from were all different but when I set off the alarm and go to start it again, it resets to how it was before I got a new fob. - My car sometimes shuts off while I’m driving it. The first time it was after I hit a huge bump in the road without slowing down (my fault), but after I got it started back up again I didn’t notice anything wrong. I got a routine oil change shortly after that which included “the works” where they rotated tires and looked at everything to make sure it was in tip top shape. They found nothing, so I didn’t think much of it. Then it would start shutting off after hitting small bumps. Dealership still found nothing wrong, so I thought it was some weird loose connection with the battery. Had the 12V battery replaced and things were fine for a few weeks. Now my car shuts off at least once a week while I’m just driving down the road, with nothing triggering it. My trick to get it to turn back on was just to open the door. Somehow that triggered my car to turn back on and I would go about my day. Today, however, once I shut the door it turned back off again. Normally, the error message pops up and leaves so quickly I don’t get to read it, but once it said something about the oil pressure and today I swear it said something about park assist but I could be mistaken. My car is not equipped with park assist so I think I am mistaken. It could’ve been something about my tire pressure because the light came on along with the check engine light. Once I finally got it started and ready to drive again, both lights turned off. It did take a few times of opening and closing the door to get it going, though. I have a 2013 C-Max SEL hybrid with approximately 63,000 miles on it. I bought it used back in February and the start of the issues happened a few months after. I bought it at a used car lot and did not get an extended warranty which ended up screwing me over big time. The carfax on it was clean and had been at two dealerships prior to being at the car lot, so I figured it was reliable since the two dealerships are reputable and service their incoming cars with close attention to details. That doesn’t mean the car lot didn’t mess with it and I’ve definitely learned my lesson from that one. Once I find a backup car to drive I am dropping it off at the local Ford dealership and having them drive it for a while to find the issues. Until then, does anybody have an idea on what these issues could be?
  4. It’s been about a month since the battery was replaced and everything was going fine at first but I’ve been having problems with the fob again. Sometimes I can start it just fine in the morning and get all the way to work and as soon as I turn off my vehicle, I go to lock it and none of the buttons work. If I go to start it it takes me about 5-6 tries of the “no key detected” failure message popping up before it actually does start. The last couple of days I’ve been able to get my car locked, but then when I try to go home after work I can’t get it unlocked and I have to use the key and then another 5-6 tries of trying to start it to get it going. What’s weird is that once it does start, the check engine light comes on and the car does not move until I press the start/stop button again, in which case the check engine light turns off again and I’m good to go. If I’m in park and I open the drivers side door, my car says thanks for driving a hybrid and shuts off until I close the door again, and then it’s miraculously back on. I have heard of no one having these same issues and every time I take it somewhere nobody has these same issues that I do. I’m about at the point of just paying this car down and then trading it in for a different car because I can’t seem to figure out what’s wrong with this one
  5. Having that 12V battery replaced today. I’ve got a spare one in my trunk and I think the one in my car currently might be the original one anyway so it doesn’t hurt to replace it. I’ve had a suspicion it was that battery all along but constant testing of it always came back in the green. At least if we replace it, it’ll rule out a problem if it continues acting up but I’m glad to know it’s a common issue and I didn’t just buy a lemon. I love this car, it runs great when it’s not having issues and I could see myself keeping it a few more years after I pay it off, but if it continues to have these issues I may just trade it in. Will let you guys know if the battery change works though!
  6. Just went to start the car and it immediately shut off on me. I opened the door, and it started right back up but as soon as I closed it, it shut off again. I did this about three times before it actually stayed on which makes me think a bigger problem is the case. A warning message popped up each time telling me to get to safety now before shutting off. Definitely taking it back to have it looked at now
  7. I recently had my oil changed and my battery tested back green, so I don’t think it’s that but I do have a spare 12v battery so we can see if changing that works. I’m going to have the new key fob taken back to the dealership to get it tested to see if it’s transmitting a signal or not
  8. I have the intelligent access key type 1 (three buttons) in case if that matters
  9. I bought a 2013 C-Max Hybrid SEL back in February and recently my key fob stopped working, so I went and replaced the battery with a brand new one and none of the buttons were working still. I unlocked using the key and ended up setting off the alarm but was able to start the car, turning off the alarm. I took it to a ford dealer to figure out the problem and they couldn’t find anything wrong with the car. When I got the fob back, it STILL wasn’t working so they programmed a new fob for me and determined the old one wasn’t transmitting a signal. It still sometimes works so I use the old one as a spare. Flash forward to about a week now and the new fob isn’t working. I left my doors unlocked, so I can get in but none of the buttons on the fob will work and if I put the fob in the special steering column slot it won’t start. The lights on the dash and the touchscreen come on when I open the door, but it doesn’t even give me the “no key detected” message. It also didn’t set off the alarm when I opened the door this time. Did I get another fob that doesn’t work or is there an actual problem with my car?
