  1. I'm not really recommending it--there may be better cams out there, but I have a Garmin Dashcam 55. I'll go over some of the pros and cons: Pros: +Good quality video +Good viewing angle +Has a special "parking mode", where it will record after you've shut the car off for a period of time (I have mine set to 2 hours). +Aforementioned parking mode has a feature where it will shut down the dashcam if your 12V battery drops below a certain threshhold, which is adjustable to some extent +Has some safety features (all of which can be disabled if you don't want them): collision warning, lane departure warning, and an alert that the car in front of you has moved. +Has GPS so the recorded videos show your current speed and position +Has two mounting options--either a metal disc you adhere to your windshield that the dashcam attaches magnetically to, or a suction cup mount (sold separately) if you need to regularly move it between cars. +Stable and reliable Cons: -Its power connector is MicroUSB, which makes you think you could power it with any random microUSB cable. But Garmin uses a specific pinout in its cables, so a "standard" cable won't work. You either have to use their cables or find/make cables to Garmin's spec -The aforementioned "parking mode" requires you to buy a special power cable intended for that purpose. It's a good cable and has lots of length to be able to hide it, but they charge like $30+ for it, which is a bit of a rip-off IMHO. You will likely need to buy a couple of "add-a-fuse" adapters to get it connected to both an always-on circuit and a switched circuit. -Inexplicably, Garmin provides no way to choose how much of the SD card's space gets dedicated to parking mode videos. So they accumulate to take up most of the space on the card. As a result, the movies recorded during driving aren't kept as long as you might want, because older ones are deleted to be able to record newer ones. I expected Garmin to fix this with a firmware update but they never did. -It has WiFi, so you can view videos on your phone, but the process of enabling it is annoying (pressing tiny buttons multiple times). The dashcam has voice control for things like "take a photo" or "start a time lapse". You'd think they would have thought to add one for "enable WiFi". -It has no built-in polarizer to reduce glare, but at least Garmin makes one you can buy as an add-on that fits over the lens. Yet another accessory to buy. All in all it's a mixed bag for me. I think the hardware is really good. Reliable operation and high quality workmanship. It has a lot of features too (how useful they are is another question). My gripe is that Garmin didn't really think through some of the features, and while there were regular firmware updates, none of them fixed any of the usability issues. They've stopped updating the firmware at this point (there's a newer model now). But just as a dashcam that sits there and does its job reliably and unobtrusively? It's great. I woud suggest poking around the dashcamtalk.com site and forum to see what other options are out there. I bought mine a couple years ago and there are probably better options out there at this point (including the newer Garmin models).
  2. 2016 C-Max's do have Sync3. It's an early version of Sync 3 that lacks Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support, but can be upgraded (there's a software and a hardware component) to a newer version of Sync 3 that does allow CarPlay/Android Auto. The software update is not automatic--it must be done manually. There's another thread here somewhere with some info on how to do it if you're interested. But that has no bearing on the modem issue discussed in this thread. The modem is for the MyFordMobile app (which is only used for C-Max Energi, not C-Max Hybrid).
  3. That program ended December 31, 2017. I see now it only ends on that date if the 5 years from the warranty start date has already elapsed. Unfortunately, a MY2015 C-Max may already have hit that 5 year mark. Definitely worth checking though! This has nothing to do with Sync2/MFT. It's the modem (which is what makes MyFordMobile work). From 2013 until later in the 2016 model year, Ford was putting in modems that used AT&T's 2G cellular network. Which is crazy because AT&T dismantled that network January 1 2017 (and announced its plans to do so 4 years prior). There is most likely nothing malfunctioning with your modem--but the cellular service it needs to operate doesn't exist any longer. So the car can't communicate with the MyFordMobile servers. The only solution is to get a 3G modem installed at a Ford dealership. Sucks, since Ford should not have been installing 2G modems in any C-Max, and certainly shouldn't have been by the 2015 model year. You can try to fight them to cover it, but I don't recall reading any reports from folks who had success doing that.
  4. Last post from the admin was Dec 31st in this thread saying he was working on the merge: I guess it didn't go smoothly. I mean I'm fine posting here going forward (honestly it would have been better to start with one site anyway). But there were so many useful posts on the energi forum. Even if the admin would put the old site back up for a week or two we could work to save some of the most useful content. It just sucks to have it vanish into thin air like that, especially when the admin posted that he has a backup of the site. So nothing's truly gone, it's just not available. Frustrating!
  5. I have no idea, but everything I have read (and I looked into this a few months ago because I wanted to buy a third key and add it) was that you pretty much have to take the car to the dealer for any operations involving adding/removing/changing keys. That said, I don't know anything about the situation with C-Max cars equipped with the normal key ignition. Mine has the pushbutton start, which is a different beast. The 2012-era Ford Focus makes up much of the underpinnings of all 6 model years of the C-Max, so maybe search around for info about the Focus too--likely it will pertain to your C-Max.
  6. Might suck to have to pay but I'm sure your local Ford dealer can reset the system.
  7. Actually I think some of the earliest-built 2016s did have 2G modems installed (what a bone-headed move by Ford. The writing's been on the wall for 2G networks for over a decade). You could always call your dealer and ask them to check your car's build date though--here's a letter from Ford about it: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/SB-10094770-2532.pdf That said, AT&T sunset their 2G network January 1 2017, so if your C-Max still had the 2G modem then I wouldn't expect it to have worked for you at all. The modems do lock up sometimes though--that's where the fuse pull/12V battery disconnect instructions come in. I think one symptom of a locked up modem is that if you pull up the About screen on your center display it won't show a number for modem ESN. Pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery should reset the module and get it working again. If it doesn't then the modem may be dead and need to be replaced ($$). If this keeps happening then you may want to have your dealer update the car's software. I was having some issues with my TCU (modem) when I first got my 2017 Energi last fall. I could communicate with it mostly but it would miss trips in the trip log. Fortunately it still had a few months' warranty remaining so I had the dealer do a software update which definitely seemed to fix the problem. It's been almost flawless since. Here is the SSM I gave to my dealer: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2018/MC-10137110-9999.pdf Good luck!
  8. The worst part of this forum debacle is that Raja's posts are gone, and apparently he doesn't intend to re-join this forum to continue to post his expertise. When I first got my 2017 Energi last August his posts were so helpful in learning the idiosyncrasies of this vehicle. I wish I had saved a bunch of them, even for my own reference.
  9. No offense intended but you need to try to relax about this. You just said in your previous post that: 1. Your doc found a medical problem with your ears and said it may take 4 weeks to get over it 2. Your C-Max never previously caused issues with your ears So try not to worry or speculate or do anything until you've got your medical issue under control. It's very possible--likely even--that once your ears are healed that you will go back to no longer having problems in your C-Max. If there were some widespread issue with the C-Max hurting peoples' ears I think you would have seen others mentioning it online.
  10. Have you tried just cracking a window or two to see if that evens out the pressure? My C-Max (2017 Energi) is very well-sealed.
  11. Hi, just wondering how it's going with the merge process. If that ends up being too much of a hassle, maybe we could donate to just bring the energi forum back as a separate site again? Thanks.
  12. FWIW I have a 2017 Energi Titanium and there is no option to configure DRLs in the left-side menu. I wonder though if that's because Ford added LED "Signature lighting" for the 2017 MY that is always on. Does that legally count as DRLs in Canada?
