http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1092703_ford-cuts-gas-mileage-on-6-models-what-you-need-to-know-and-open-questions Our mistake" in a math model Ford says it miscalculated the ratings due to an error in laboratory-test measurements of Total Road Load Horsepower, a resistance level on the dynamometers (rolling roads) on which new vehicles are run through the specified test cycles to calculate emissions and fuel economy. In addition, said global product development chief Raj Nair, Ford made a further error in the way it accounted for aerodynamic drag when it modeled "virtual" wind-tunnel testing of the cars in the calculations of an engineering model. 2013 Ford C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid, Marin County, CA, Nov 2012 “This is our mistake, plain and simple," Nair said, "and we apologize." According to Ford, the company identified the error during its internal testing and validation procedures in March, and notified the Environmental Protection Agency of its findings. Then it worked together with the EPA on retesting and development of the new, lower ratings. No intent to mislead "Without getting too complex, we do a physical wind tunnel test, and then use a correlation factor to enter that into the engineering model--which is then the total load horsepower test," Nair elaborated. "The error was in the correlation factor in the model.” There was no intent to mislead the public, Nair said, and no Ford employee has been disciplined for the errors. 2013 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, New York City, June 2013

Not trying to deter the quest for the right size jack, if mine didn't fit, could drive the car's wheel with the flat up on a rock or a brick or a curb, or be in a position so the jack is recessed, like digging a recess for the jack.

Two topics that have a lot of spare tire discussion http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/258-spare-tire/?hl=spare http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/1116-spare-tire-solution-for-c-max-hybrid/?hl=spare

Nice. What were the effects on mileage with all that capacity ? Is the roof rack removeable ? Does the cargo box lock onto the hitch somehow ? Thanks.

On http://www.etis.ford.com/ the official classification is 5-door UAV. A google search shows that UAV means "urban activity vehicle". From: http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/3784-car-classification-c-max/ It has been classified as other things too. I would be tempted to take the C-Max but storage for luggage will be tough. If there were only going to be 4 passengers you could lower the small seat in the back and put luggage there but with 5 it sounds challenging. I vaguely remember someone on the forum installing a roof thing for luggage.

Is the extended warranty a state taxable sale ? Thanks.

Cheap LED DRL installation

Are they really bright enough to use as fog lights ? -
You could try sending a message to Ashley, the forum Ford Representative. http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/user/1579-fordservice/ And point her to this message. If you search on her name you will see she's here to help.

Just today I was going along around 65 mph and avoided a big pot hole that came up real quick. I was surprised as how hard the car moved to the right, actually thinking I could have killed myself. and equally surprised at how stable it was steering it back. I hope not to do that again. I basically steered it as though I were going more like 40. It's like the sport version without the designation. I did avoid the pot hole. (But I think the pot holes are winning.)

Thanks Dave. I just looked at my jack - looks a bit less that 3 inches. How much clearance did you have ? I was just thinking about your problem again and what I could do it I had to deal with it. Perhaps moving it to dirt and digging some to allow the jack to fit.

I think a lot of info you want is in this thread. http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/topic/1116-spare-tire-solution-for-c-max-hybrid/?hl=%2Bspare+%2Btire I have a windstar spare ( not all years fit ). Some people would not choose the windstar spare because of its age, but I am not so concerned about that. I believe I read in the above thread some ford focus spares work but not all though it has been a while since I read that thread. I got my spare from ebay and it did not cost much. Some people just buy a full size wheel and tire.

Interesting. I never considered the clearance with a flat. To see if I should consider getting a different jack, could you post the height of your jack that didn't work, and what size you are going to try to get ? I am also curious if another jack point could be used, perhaps with the aid of a wood block. I also wonder if it is possible to lift the body up enough to slip the jack under - the first inch or two might be easy with the suspension. UPDATE: The C-Max suspension is rather stiff. I tried to lift the car up and it moved like 1/2 inch. On older cars that I have owner I was able lift quite a bit.

Do you have an SE or SEL ? The problem in the past has been more with the SE.

Highway mileage is closely linked to drag. The Fusion has lower drag. The C-Max has much better headroom, so for me better driving position, better viability, but higher drag. There are a lot of factors to get an accurate mileage on a C-Max for a 2 mile drive. Certainly winter vs spring or summer. And also the change in the state of charge of the battery. If I end up with more of battery charge, that is not really accounted for in the mileage. In the winter, the software charges the battery to warm up the engine. My mileage on short trips has a wide variation. I would think for driving under 45mph, the C-Max could get substantially better mileage than a Fusion or that matter most standard engine cars if it is driven in a way that takes advantage of the hybrid tech. Article that I find revealing about the difference between 60 and 65 mph: http://voices.yahoo.com/how-much-power-car-needs-65-vs-60-mph-try-469462.html Description of Drag: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drag_coefficient ( I like the chart on the top right with drag for different shapes. ) A nice graph of power vs speed: http://voices.yahoo.com/image/126646/index.html?cat=27 One more note: I find eco-cruise to not be very eco at high speeds. When I first used it I figured it was some computerize thing that would be so much better than how I could do it myself. My experience at lower speeds (45) is pretty good.

Just in case this is useful: So I assume you added the car rental to your insurance. My father has Geico and when his car was in an accident he went to an approved Geico repair center and the rental was covered - no money transferred - Enterprise gives Geico a good discount. And the repair center drove us to the rental place and when we picked the car up we just left the rental at the repair center. When the repair took longer that expected that was all negotiated between Geico and the repair place. (though it was not 56 days) Also, in the future, Ashley is a Ford employee that helps people on this message board. http://fordcmaxhybridforum.com/user/1579-fordservice/ When I rent cars long term or short term, I like the rates I get from costcotravel.com (need to be a costco member)

Windows rolled themselves today
obob replied to AMSDPS's topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Windows rolled themselves today. Third time it happened to me but this time it was raining. I am quite disturbed. Last time I was at the dealer I requested them be disabled and the dealer said said there wasn't a fix. I am going to write Ashley. -
Because of my concern about bumps and potholes, if I were to change wheels, I would get smaller wheels so I could get taller tires to absorb the bumps better, sacrificing a bit of handling.

Not to mention just carry less crap in your life. Sometimes the noise gets so loud I can't hear the signal of reality.

I just tried to ask Michelin what is going on here but I could not get this website to work. Perhaps someone else can - I am using Linux. http://www.michelin.com/corporate/EN/contact

Maybe the new tire is lighter and more efficient.

I went to the Ford dealer with coupon to get the a pair of blades. (ww-29 and ww-25) for 19.96. They said that the coupon does not work for those because the coupon says "with wear indicator" which is a different blade. He also said that the Ford wiper blades with the wear indicator are not available for the C-Max. Has anyone here actually been able to get these blades with the coupon ? (By the way, this is the link to all the Ford offers and coupons: https://owner.ford.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Owner/Page/ServiceCouponsPage )

so you also got the jack and lug wrench ??

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=GTAS P7 got great ratings from tirerack.com though I was concerned about the UTQG: 400 AA A as far as tread wear. The Michelin defender has UTQG: 820 A B which implies more miles. How are the P7 wearing on your Camry ?

Ford dropping Microsoft Auto in favor of QNX
obob replied to valkraider's topic in Audio, MyFord, Navigation & SYNC
I am not getting my hope up. ( Not even a little bit. ) But since I want American auto manufactures to do well, I am glad they are doing it.
