  1. Here is a link for the Prius V similar to the other two links in the original post. http://www.iihs.org/ratings/ratingsbyseries.aspx?id=740
  2. Thanks for blazing the trail. Here is another option $30 shipped - I did not buy it myself. I would message them to make sure it is for the US c-max and try to get an idea how it differs from the headshield, and if it is made in the US kind of like our C-Max though it says "custom made to order" so it seem likely since it ships from CA. http://www.ebay.com/itm/100-Custom-Fit-Auto-Windshield-Sunshade-Cover-for-2013-Ford-Models-/261159736390?pt=Apparel_Merchandise&var=&hash=item3cce555446&vxp=mtr There is also the same one you got for about $40 shipped though I might prefer amazon for 80 cents more. http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-C-Max-2013-Heatshield-Brand-Custom-Sunshade-Made-in-USA-/400474153958?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d3e1ea3e6&vxp=mtr FYI in case someone doesn't know, holding the unlock on the key for a few seconds lowers all the windows for when it is hot.
  3. I suspect it is pretty flat out there. That makes big difference.
  4. NOTE: After reading JAZ's post #94 I can't recommend the Windstar tire for the tire is old and may not be reliable. (Though I am keeping mine and I do not think it is unsafe, I think Ford should offer one that is a perfect fit. ) Summary: 2000 Windstar donut spare is smaller and tested with traction control off it pulls on braking. Scissor jack for Wind dstar works fine and lug nut wrench fits. As stated before "I got a 2000 Windstar (donut) spare tire for 55 and a jack for 25 from ebay(shipped)." The tire is a T135-90R15. The scissor jack comes with a lug wrench and has a groove where it connects to the frame. It works fine. Though the lug wrench left small marks on the soft outer metal of the lugs. The jack point I used was where another part of the frame connects to the outer part. It was right where the front door begins (jacking up the front driver side wheel.) The spare tire has a circumference of about 78 inches. The C-Max tire has a circumference of 82 inches. The spare is about 3/4 of an inch lower when standing the two up. The spare was inflated to near the suggested 60 psi. I put the spare tire on. The lugs did fit on the spare but they look pretty weird. I turned off traction control. (By the way, after turning the car off it defaulted back to traction control.) In hindsight I wish I had so tried it with traction control on. I went out for a test drive and it drives ok. The fastest I went was 45. There was not a clearance problem with the 15" wheel. BRAKING - it pulls toward the spare tire. Just a little on a soft stop - like 100% score on breaking. It pulls pretty bad on a medium or hard stops. I am not sure if the pulling is because of the computer overcompensating for the circumference or width or just something with such a thin tire or because of the smaller circumference not brake computer related. I would appreciate some thoughts on that. (see update at the bottom) I am not happy with the imperfect solution but if I were to return the wheel it would cost me 20 to ship it and the ebay seller would deduct 20 so I would get 15 back (ball park numbers) plus my time - I am thinking about keeping it. For the emergency situation which is temporary and hopefully rare or never. If I do that I will keep a note for myself to turn off traction control. I was going to try it with traction control turned on but was feeling kind of crappy so I didn't bother. I also have a tire plug kit for punctures. I would think the key in buying from ebay is to tell the seller the circumference I am looking for. The jack ship weight was 8 lbs. The tire ship weight was 28 lbs. The jack seems like something that a LOT of other cars would have. The real solution is for Ford to get a product for people who want a spare. This is not a super cheap-o car. By the way, with the tire off the car it looks even more like a race car high performance tire. UPDATE: So I kind of figured out that it pulls because the spare is spinning faster so it exerts more friction on the brake pad. I am keeping the spare.
  5. Not sure. I was thinking in the back. Somewhere on this forum there is a picture of a spare in the back storage area with bungy-like straps. When I travel I was thinking I could put the luggage in the back where it could be hidden, and put the tire in the back seat area on the floor. When I get the tire I will clean it up. I got the spare tire for 55 and a jack for 25 from ebay(shipped). Haven't gotten the items yet. My guess is these ebay sellers will haggle but I didn't do that. I am hoping I don't have problems like "I didn't come up with this different diameter wheel issue, it would not have occurred to me that a small spare would cause a problem.. This concern is simply because I've read many other Forums about this, Mustang, Fusion, Corvette, etc. Some have brake clearance issues, but all the Ford Forums are concerned about the digital controls for the drive train and damage that can happen, plus the possibility the car's computer will just got into 'limp' mode. I don't really know, just trying to find out because I'd like a spare, if it won't hurt anything when I use it. There is a reason Ford didn't put a spare in these cars, besides weight and cost." (quote post in this thread by Jaz from fusion forum) ( see my post below to view negative side effects of using the 2000 Windstar spare ) I also have a tire plug kit, but having the boy scout be prepared mentality, I wanted to give this a try. In the decades I have been driving never had a flat tire that I couldn't fix with a plug kit and a pump, but there is always a first.
  6. My thinking is smaller turning radius means bigger wheel wells, or thinner tires, or smaller tires, or less clearance, or bigger car. The turning radius really isn't an issue with me. I like the sporty tires and ride. Even Toyota sacrificed some turning radius compared to the Prius vs Corolla - Prius is 4 inches shorter yet a little bigger turning radius. Turning Radius in ft ( from consumerreports.org unless I made a mistake in the copying ) 45 Chevy Suburban 41 C-Max 40 Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, Toyota Camry 39 Prius V 37 Prius 36 Corolla 34 Fiat Pop 30 Smart
  7. http://www.roadkillcustoms.com/hot-rods-rat-rods/Wheel-Bolt-Pattern-Cross-Reference-Database.asp?Makes=Ford&Models=WINDSTAR This web page confirms the 5 - 108mm bolt pattern of the Windstar and also has other cars that use the same pattern, THOUGH NOT NECESSARILY THE RIGHT SIZE FOR THE C-MAX. The page also shows adapters to move from one pattern to another but they are way expensive. By the way, I just bought a Windstar spare off of ebay. Thanks for blazing the trail Roger Eastman.
  8. How long are these Lithium Ion batteries suppose to last ? And how much will they cost to replace. I suspect they will last more than 8 years or 100,000 miles. I hope that the cost of replacement is not so high that the car becomes worthless. And replacement batteries are something I would hesitate to get from a off-shore third party manufacturer that could take shortcuts sacrificing safety. And I suspect there will be a period when the batteries are like half as good so my mileage will be not as good. I like my C-Max. I like not feeling pain when I go to the gas station. It's one of the nicest small cars for tall people who need headroom. And it is built from an American manufacturer which is good for me. But financial savings are less than they might appear when stuff like this is taken in consideration. I would appreciate info in this respect though I suspect we will know more in a few years. Thanks in advance. April 25 - These responses were great and alleviated my concern. I can see there is a lot more to these batteries that I suspected. This battery setup is obviously different than a laptop where you get your 300 or so charges and get a new one. Thanks again.
  9. So has it been determined that the 2012 and 2013 Focus spare tire and jacks works ? How about other years of the focus ? I just looked on ebay and there is one 2012 spare tire for $125 obo while a 2005 was available for 58. Thanks.

    50+mpg trips

I have found that change in elevation also has a very significant effect. So I look at mileage for round trips. One trip I make pretty regularly is downhill going and uphill coming back. I get like over 50mpg going and under 50 on the way back bringing the average into the 40's.
  11. That very well may be it. Thanks. The salesman linked my phone up and I never got it to work except for the one time it was set up. Usually it doesn't link up. But sometimes it links and asks me for a password which makes the phone unusable because I don't know the password. The one it wants is not 0000. Now I know one of my next adventures into the C-Max operating system. Assuming that is it, I will have to determine whether it has this problem because of the bluetooth in the C-Max is messed or some unique particular compatibility thing. I just looked at my phone and I have linked up 9 bluetooth devices with no problems until this one which is called sync. Actually I kind of prefer the thing on my ear though I haven't really given the C-Max a chance. ( I use an LG phone which is about 4 years old.) My phone apparently links and unlinks with me just sitting there even without the car moving for it did it in the driveway twice after coming back from shopping while I was playing with the menus. By the way, one of the comments my friend made after driving the car was it is like playing a game, which after he said it made sense to me. I think I will call that a feature. Thanks again. UPDATE: It was the phone that was chirping. I may have fixed it. I deleted the entry for my phone in the car and then added it again. UPDATE: It is not fixed. Deleting the entry and adding seems to only work once. Soon it asks for a password and it isn't the one that was given out when adding the entry.
  12. I have a base SE; I don't thing I have the proximity sensors. At first I thought it was me losing leaves, but the chirps seem a lot less than the leaves coming and going. At some point I think I will attempt to record them. I noticed the chirping when I let my friend drive around a big parking lot and was using mostly electric so it is pretty easy to reproduce. Softness, shortness and frequency of the sound makes it hard to even know where it is coming from.
  13. My car has a feature where it seems to randomly beep/chirp and I am not sure what it means or whether it is a problem. Any ideas what it is would be appreciated. Thanks.
