  1. To answer the question about the brake system. It's the air force one system, which runs a air line from the motorhome to the CMax which has a cylinder Attached to the brake peddle, which pushes the brake pedal. It's hard to fine a place to run the cable , but we had to run it threw the right side firewall. The hardest part of the installing the brake system. Sorry no photos , no way to get the camera in there. I pulled the car in neutral with engine off on way home from Florida, I did start the car ( so the power steering would be on) while making tight turns in Parking lots. So far the new tires are ok. On rough two lane roads I going to unhook the car and drive it to make sure
  2. Update on towing cmax behind motorhome, car now has 46000 miles, just replaced tires, which had very bad flat spots on them, the noise was terrible, I spoke to a blue Ox rep. He confirmed the shaking problem, said the power steering needed to be on all the time, he said jeep had the same problem with the electric power steering. We are pulling the car dead level. I have made sure there is no excess movement in the hitch attached to the motor home. We are using Airf Force One for a braking system and It seem to work well. We our leaving Fla for home in a couple of days and I hate to run a new set of tires. I wonder if we could tow the car in the run position. So the electric power steering would be active. Has anybody tried this? Thanks
  3. Thanks for the info on the tire wear, our hitch is level also, had a drop hitch made for the motorhome to make sure. I did rotate the tires once, I will have a four wheel aligment done to see how bad it is, the tire noise is getting worst. We have over 15000 miles on the Cmax.
  4. Update on installed charge wire from motorhome to Cmax. Installed diode in charge wire and that solved the problem Of the battery going dead, also installed a separate ground wire from frame of motorhome to blueox base plate. New problem, it's seems towing the Cmax is changing the front end aligment and changing the wear pattern on The front tires. It does not track as well as it did. You have to correct the steering more and the tires make More noise. The car has about 14000 miles on it. Anybody else noticed this problem?
  5. We have the air force one braking system and ran the wire from it to the cmax 12 volt connection. The brake, tail, and signal lights are run off the motorhome power ( installed separate LED lights from blue ox in the tail Light housings) we towed a number of times with no trouble (did start the car ever couple hours to keep the battery up) We then installed a charge line from the motorhome( 2003 Country Coach) to the cmax 12volt connection . ( no diode) We towed the car for about 250 miles, stopped at a rest area, turned the key off in the motorhome and it kept running I turned the key back on and kept on going. We stopped at a Flying J to get fuel I checked to see if the cmax would Start, it was dead, I removed the charge wire from the cmax and the motorhome stopped running. It would crank, but Not start. Called road service ( $245) he could not find a blown fuse or relay. So we took the charge wire and ran It to the motorhome battery and the engine started. He suggested I run two wires ( one charge and one ground) From the motorhome battery to the cmax. Any ideas?
  6. I spent a lot money on repairs and lots of problems with cars I purchased recommended by CR, Honda, Toyota, Volvo, Merc-Benz. While having no problems with my Corvette, GMC truck, Chevy Malibu, Chevy Impala, Ford F150, Took me a while to learn my lesson, so I no longer read CR.
  7. Up date, installed the blue base plate, used the kit from blue ox to install LED In taillight housing ( plenty of room) installed Air Force One air brake system ( it required connecting a charge wire from the Air Force One black box to the cmax 12 volt jump connection So the brake away system will work if you lose the car, also we installed a charge wire from the motor home to the same place to Take care of the battery going dead) still not sure if the car keeps the vacum pumped up while being towed? The Cmax pulls Very well, nice not having to install the brake buddy every Time you tow and locking up the brakes or no brakes. Tried using a tow dolly, but the car is to low in the front to pull it up the on the ramps.
  8. I have bought a number of cars recommended by CR over the years , Volvo, Merc-Benz, Honda, Toyoto, lots of recalls, lots Of electrical problems , with all of them. I worked with the Highway Dept and I always ended up with a old car with lots Of miles on them. I drove 1995 Chevy Cavalier that had 85000 miles on it when I got it. I put another 50000 miles on itj, Had to a put alternator on, and that was it, so I learned my lesson and don't buy cars they recommend. I quit reading The mag cause it just made me angry. We bought a new silver cmax hybrid SLE last May, to pull behind our motor home, We have driven it almost 8000 miles, I think it is the best car we have every owned, drives great, lots of power, Good seats, great gas millage, ( 43.5 mpg ave since we have had the car, we live in the mountains of West Virgina, The best millage so far is 70 mpg on mountain roads, can get 50 to 60 on two lane mountain roads at 50 mph. On a trip of 250 miles running 70 to 75 mph on interstate highways we get 42 to 43 mpg) so what not to like. And Ford sent me a check for $550.00 because CR said they only got 43 mpg.
  9. We have had our silver cmax since may 2013 , took 13 weeks to get here, we now have 5254.6 Miles on it with a avg mpg of 43.2 overall. Lowest mpg was 29 highest was 70 mpg. For 60 miles In the mountains of wva and va. Interstate travel at aprox 70 to 75 mph in the mountains of West Virgina is about 42 mpg. The best I can due on level roads ia about 45 mpg. We bought the car to pull behind our moterhome. We have installed everything needed to pull it, Blue Ox tow bar,Air Force one air brakes ( ha, a cmax with air brakes) LED light kit ib cmax Tail light housing. I think this is the best car we have ever owned, powerful, silent inside, Great seats, good looking, and great mpg.
  10. Is anybody using a brake buddy in their c max hybrid to tow it behind their motorhome? Do you plug It into the c max electrical system for power or from the motorhome electrical system? I am concerned about the battery going dead quickly , so would like all power to come from motor home. Or would it be possible to charge the battery in the c max from the motorhome, I understand there are Connections to hook up jumper cables. Will be using a blueox base plate and tow bar . They have a wiring kit for the rear lights but I am not Sure if there is room in the tail light assembly for the extra tail lights using power from the motorhome This way you avoid having to using diodes for the c max tail lights to work and no need to tie into The c max electrical system.
