  1. Always had problems with the liftgate. (it's a manual - no power or foot) First it wouldn't close completely and we got the ajar light in the dashboard, then we had to push down really hard to open it. I fixed this issue by adjusting the door stoppers on the side. Now it seems like completely dead...no clicking sound of the latch either with remote or by pushing the button under the handle. I can't open it anymore. Checked the fuse under the clove department and it was broken...replaced it and thought this was the culprit, but still not working. There is no emergency or manual release. Climbed in the back to disconnect the battery to reset the computer...still not working! Ford wants $160 just to do a check to see what's wrong. Help! What else can I try?
  2. So a few weeks ago I drove 100 miles to IKEA to pick up a chair. Went to open up the hatchback and...the hatch wouldn't open. Unlocked the car multiple times...the 4 doors clicked to unlocked position and opened fine, but the hatch didn't click and unlock, and just wouldn't open. Used the hatch-only button...still wouldn't open. The chair wouldn't fit in through a passenger door, so this sucked! Looked in the owner's manual to see where the manual release or child panic latch was...none shown or mentioned. Called the Ford 800 number, waited on hold. Having been on hold for a long time and not wanting to bake my ear, I got into the driver's seat and turned on the ignition to continue the conversation hands-free on Bluetooth. Got transferred to the local dealer's service department, and though friendly, they couldn't identify any alternative manual release option either, so we finished the convo and I hung up. Needing to pee after all this time, I turned off the ignition and headed toward the IKEA entrance...when on a whim, I figured I'd try the hatch one more time. It opened. It has continued to work fine ever since. (FWIW, my car does not have the keyless proximity doodads, just a regular lock/unlock fob.) Anyone experience anything like this? With computer problems, the IT crowd always says "Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on again?:Now that computers control our cars, it appears that you can fix random problems by...turning it off and turning it back on again!
  3. TSB 14-0070LIFTGATE AJAR LIGHT IS ON OR THE POWER LIFTGATE DOES NOT CINCH THE LIFTGATE FLUSH TO THE BODY - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 1/31/2014 Publication Date: May 8, 2014 FORD: 2013-2014 C-MAX This article supersedes TSB 12-12-6 to update the Title, Issue Statement, Service Procedure and Parts List. ISSUE: Some 2013-2014 C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi vehicles built on or before 1/31/2014 may exhibit a concern of a false liftgate ajar warning indicator illuminated in the message center. No - proceed to Step 7. Is the vehicle equipped with a power liftgate? Yes - proceed to Step 8. No - this article does not apply. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-03 for normal diagnosis. Replace the power liftgate latch and liftgate power striker motor. Refer to WSM, Sections 501-03 and 501-14. 4. Greetings fellow C-Maxers, The other day, I took my C-Max over a particularly nasty speedbump in a parking lot. When the rear wheel cleared the bump, I heard the liftgate latch motor (or whatever secures the hatch after it closes) make its little "gear-cycle" sound. Everything continued from then in normal fashion. . . Days later, after numerous normal operations of the liftgate, I waved my foot under the bumper to open the liftgate; it made the little latch gear cycling noise, and then nothing happened. I waved my foot again, and the gate opened normally. Do I need to worry about this? Have any of you out there experienced similar issues with your power liftgate when your rear suspension makes an abrupt transition (speedbumps, potholes, etc.)? Do I need to get something checked? Thanks!
  5. SSM 32299 - 2013 C-Max - Power Liftgate Stops During Operation Some 2013 C-Max vehicles may exhibit a power liftgate that will stop during travel and must be opened or closed manually. This condition may be caused by chafe in the wiring harness between the headliner and roof sheet metal pass through, just forward of the point where the harness enters the flexible convolute to the liftgate. Repair damaged circuits as required following repair procedures in Wiring Diagram, Section 5-1. Use available service labor times.
  6. I have two issues with my CMAX SEL. It is equipped with the automatic lift-gate and has nav with an 8 inch touch screen. About 1/3 to 1/2 of the time when I use my foot to activate the lift-gate it unlatches but does not lift. It has been to the dealer several times and they have not been able to replicate the issue. The last time they contacted Ford and they think there is a software issue that may be resolved when the update for sync comes out for the Cmax. The other issue I have is if the car is parked so I do not have to put it in reverse to drive the touch screen will not come on. I have to stop, put it in reverse to have the back-up camera come on and then the screen works. Sometimes I have to stop, turn the car off and restart to get the screen to come on. The dealer also thinks this is a software glitch that will be solved with the update. The dealer was told by Ford the update is expected in the first quarter of 2013, but we are now in the second quarter and still no update. Any word when the update is expected?
  7. Received a letter today for Program Number 13B06. It is for the Dealer to Preprogram or replace free of charge the Rear Gate Trunk Module. With my travels, I have not been able to drop my car off. We have had to do a double kick for the Lift Gate to operate properly. I to the point were the first kick unlocks the Gate and the second kick energizies the Gate Mechanicals. Now I will drop it off and go ahead and get the Wing Deflectors, Mud Flaps and the Rear Bumper Protector added.
