  1. My 2013 C-MAX Hybrid SEL (120K miles), sometimes slightly jerks forward during deceleration when lightly applying brakes between 30 to 10 mph. There are no check engine / warning lights coming on. Car has been great since I bought it new. All maintenance was done on time and no leaks. Brakes are good. Would appreciate your help with suggestions on what actions I should take to address issue. Thanks.
  2. 2 months ago I purchased a 13 Cmax with 142k miles on it for $7k. The Ford dealer had checked it for the dealer I bought it from and told them there wasn't an issue. They also checked it for me and said the same thing. I didn't believe them so I had them check it again and then they presented me with a $10k proposal for a new transmission. In researching I have seen that others have had their transmissions replaced under the CARB warranty. My local Ford Dealership says it's not covered. All I can find on Colorado government sites is that we adopted CARB but no details about it. On the actual CARB site it looks like there would be an extended warranty on the system for either 10 years 150000 miles or 15 years 150000 miles. Anyone out there had their transmission replaced in Colorado under CARB? Anyone know where I can find information on a Colorado site to tell me what parts of CARB we adopted?
  3. Hey guy's I'm a in a bit of a dilemma. So one of my rear motor mounts bolts snapped in the transmission housing and thought it would just be easier to replace the housing part #(DG9P-7976-CC). While pulling the housing I accidently pulled the Electric motor input shaft and intermediate shaft. I see there are blue marks on the gears. Do shaft gears teeth have to align with one another or can I just place them in without aligning them specifically? I work on cars a lot but never on a transmission so I'm not sure where to go from here. All transmission shops near me are booked for a couple of weeks. Here is picture below of the gear's/shafts I'm talking about and the other is my snapped housing. If anyone has a link to manual or where I can purchase one that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead.

I'm really worried and need a shoulder to cry on and some moral support before I go in to the dealer :-( We have a 2013 C-max Energi that we bought in December 2013 (so just under five years) that has about 76,000 miles on it. Most of the daily driving is on electric mode (around town, my wife usually takes the car to work and can get there and back on one charge), plus some long trips (1,000+ miles). Gas mileage is usually in the high 80's; when we go on long trips we get about 35 MPG on the highway with no charge. A while ago we were gone for a couple weeks with the car in the garage and found some fluid on the ground under the car that looked to me like transmission fluid. Called up the dealer to look at getting it looked at, and their first appointment was about two months out. We decided to take it to an independent shop that has someone who specializes in cars like the C-max, where we could get an earlier appointment. But then we procrastinated a bit until we got it in a month or two later. The independent shop looked at it and they reported: Vehicle has a leak from the left side (driver's) axle shaft seal on the transaxle.Leak has been going on for some time. The fibre under engine cover is fully saturated with transmission fluid.The axle shaft has excessive up and down movement which indicates an internal problem.Ford issued a campaign for premature wear on these transmissions. According to the letter, the campaign ended 05/2016.I do not know if they are still honoring it.I test drove the vehicle and the transmission is noisy while the engine is running and I can hear rotational bearing type soundswhen coasting and applying the brakes (vehicle in regen mode).It appears this vehicle is going to need major transmission repair or replacement.Next step is to check for any warranty and make an estimate for needed repairs.We probably got the transmission "customer satisfaction program 14B07" letter from Ford, but don't remember it because I always rely on the recalls and repairs suggested on myform.com (I still need to get the door latch fix). So, I called the dealer today, and talked to the service advisor and mentioned the transmission problem. He then told me that the car doesn't have a transmission! The dealer wants to charge us $190 to evaluate the car. I'm worried that since it's out of warranty--we didn't buy the extended warranty :-( -- they will tell us that we missed the deadline for the free transmission service, and then want to charge us dealer pricing for replacing the entire transmission. I'm pretty sure I can get it for much less at the independent shop, and if they aren't willing to cover this known problem for free, then I'd rather take my business elsewhere. There is so much knowledge and wisdom in these forums, I'd love to hear others thoughts on our situation. Are we just out of luck, or do you think we can get Ford to fix this for free? Should we call Ford corporate office instead of depending on the local dealer; are they more likely to approve the repair if we go straight to them? Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. We have an appointment to bring the car into the dealer on Thursday afternoon, then they will get to it when they can (they said the earliest was the 11th, but since we're leaving town for ten days, they think they can get to it earlier if we leave it with them tomorrow).
  5. I have one of the early 2013 SEL's with about 67k on the odometer. I love this car and outside of having to replace the backup camera (under extended warranty) have had no problems. I'd really like to keep it a few more years. However, the issue with 2013 transmissions failing has me wondering... I called Ford and they said they're not going to replace the tranny (I guess unless it fails) under the extended warranty. If this was a design flaw why didn't they do a recall? In any case, they looked up by VIN # and there was nothing re the transmission. Have all of the early 2013 transmissions been failing, or just some? I thought they had all been built in the same factory. Has anyone gotten Ford to replace this before it fails?

ISSUE: Some 2013-2014 C-MAX, Fusion and MKZ vehicles equipped with an HF35 transmission may exhibit a thumping/rubbing or grinding noise coming from the transmission. The noise may be present in all gear ranges including neutral when the vehicle is moving, but will not be present when the vehicle is stationary or in Park. ACTION: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. SERVICE PROCEDURE With the vehicle at operating temperature, road test the vehicle and lightly apply the brakes from 48-16 Km/h (30-10 MPH). The engine shuts-off on deceleration when the vehicle is at operating temperature. Is a thumping/rubbing or grinding noise present? No - this article does not apply. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01 for normal diagnosis. Yes - proceed to Step 3. Install new transmission assembly. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01. Flush transmission fluid cooling system. Refer to WSM, Section 307-02.

My Ford C-Max Hybrid Energi has a dead battery, I tried to charge it and replace it but display is dead, key will not work, doors cannot be locked and I cant get it into neutral to tow it to dealer. is there a mechancical override to get the transmission into neutral to tow it? not sure why it died, it is on an incline with front higher than rear, I think I left the motor on for 2 hours and drained it . what do I do?

  9. Right on schedule :( my 2013 needs to have the transmission replaced. Dealership says they can't do it until next week but they told me it's OK to drive for now. Should I get a rental anyway? I live 30 mi. out from work, don't want to get stranded in this heat. Ford should have done a recall and replaced them! BTW, I have an extended warranty, best thing I ever did. I've already had to have my backup camera replaced after it developed a short, and now this. Sucks because I love Miss Pearl and was thinking of getting a used 2018 in a couple of years, but now I'm not sure I want another one. I'm getting 45 mpg with 188 hp, can't really find that anywhere else!
  10. Our dealer is currently replacing the transmission on our 2013 C-Max (with about 45,000 miles.) I hadn't had any driving problems but heard a clicking noise as I slowed to a stop, with the clicking frequency decreasing as I slowed. In any event, the dealer is currently installing a new transmission and I'll get it back later in the week. Next Saturday we're leaving on a long driving trip. Do you think I need to drive any differently in the break_in period of the new transmission? Obviously, there's nothing else on the car that needs a break-in. Thanks!

Multiple Vehicles - Transmission Cooler Flush General Service Bulletin (GSB) This bulletin provides the process for using the transmission flush machine and provides an application reference chart. See GSB: G0000066 for details. This was posted yesterday on OASIS. It speaks to the use of a special machine for flushing a transmission cooler. It's noteworthy in that, per the bulletin, the use of compressed air, over-the-counter flushing fluids, etc., is not sufficient to clean crud from the cooler, and, in fact, can do more harm than good. Filed under FWIW. :-)

ISSUE:Some 2013 C-Max, 2013-2014 Fusion, MKZ Hybrid and Energi vehicles equipped with a HF-35 automatic transmission and built on or before 12/1/2013 may exhibit a transmission fluid leak at the damper housing to transmission case joint. This condition may be due to an adherence failure of the RTV. ACTION:Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. SERVICE PROCEDURE Remove the transmission from the vehicle and separate the damper housing from the transmission case. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01.Use Motorcraft® Silicone Gasket Remover to remove old RTV from the housing and case mating surfaces. Allow to dry.Use Motorcraft® Metal Surface Prep Wipes to clean and etch the mating surfaces. Allow to dry.Apply a bead of Motorcraft® Ultra Silicone Sealant and reassemble the transmission. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01.Install the transmission. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01.
  13. I have been getting up to 250*F Transmission Fluid Temp (TFT) on my ScanGaugeII. Contacted my local FORD SM and asked him what the normal operating temps for the TFT and he came back with 200-220*F. Then I got worried. I just talked to a FORD AutoNation (Electric Dealer) SW who talked to Transmission Specialist who looked it up and said it(Transmission Electronics) will trip a code at 301*F and come up with a wrench symbol. I'm surprised that it could go that high without hurting something. I'm not really having any problems with the Transmission. ;) Paul
  14. Yesterday, the car got stuck in park and had to be towed to the dealer. I tried several times to get it to operate but to no avail; shift lever wouldn't budge. Today, it's "fixed." Per the repair order: "found shift cable disconnected, checked for wear per warranty requirements, none found at this time." There's no explanation as to what caused the the cable to become disconnected, or what can be done to keep the problem from recurring. One possibility is that a cotter pin, c-clip, or some other retainer went missing when the transmission was replaced in January.

While I doubt this is relevant to forum members at this time, I thought it was worth documenting: SSM 44252 - Hybrids In Taxi Service - HF35 Transmission Bearing Noise Some 2013 C-MAX Hybrid and 2013-2014 Fusion Hybrid vehicles operating in taxi service may exhibit a metal-on-metal scraping-type sound from the transmission. This noise will be present in all gear ranges including neutral when the vehicle is moving, but will not be present when the vehicle is stationary or in park. The current transmission assembly (7000) service parts incorporate design improvements to enhance durability under the unique operating conditions of taxi service.

Ford and suppliers are investing $220 million to transform Van Dyke Transmission into a modern operation capable of producing Ford’s new hybrid transmission – HF35 – as well as other fuel-efficient transmissions. The investments are part of a $632 million commitment Ford and its suppliers are making to increase capacity and flexibility at three North American transmission facilities by 2015. The new assembly line and other capacity actions at Van Dyke Transmission include the addition of 225 new jobs, part of Ford’s commitment to add 12,000 U.S. hourly jobs by 2015. The plant recently added 130 jobs as part of the hybrid transmission launch, with the remaining workers scheduled to start work by the end of the month. Van Dyke now has a total of 1,350 workers. “Our investments in Van Dyke Transmission make it our most advanced, efficient transmission plant in the world,” said Jim Tetreault, vice president of North America Manufacturing. “This demonstrates our commitment to bringing jobs and technology back into Ford and North America – actions that not only benefit our employees but our customers and the communities where we do business.” HF35, which incorporates two electric motors, is the first hybrid transmission to be designed and built by Ford. New flexible equipment allows the plant to build both HF35 and 6F, a conventional six-speed automatic transmission, at the same time.
