What I missed about my C-MAX this week......

We were in Minnesota for 6 days visiting with Jerry's parents, who are ill. We flew out and rented a car.....needed a mid-sized SUV to haul folks, luggage, walkers, wheelchairs, etc, and got a deal on a.............Jeep Liberty, which is what I drove *BC*, Before C-MAX. This was a newer model than mine, by about 10 years. I am only 3.5 months removed driving the Jeep, but here's what I missed, in no particular order:

Hands-free lift gate

Keyless entry ( I kept wondering why the door didn't unlock when I had the keys in my pocket!)

And then there was having to use a key to start it! What?

And no *New Car* smell

The dash just looked weird! Where was my Brake Coach? Where was my Empower Mode?

Rain (or in our case snow-sensing) wipers were not there

No rear view camera

Missed the incredibly quiet ride, esp. in EV mode

No EV mode?

Couldn't coast!

Even tho it was a bigger vehicle, I felt really cramped in it!

I was dark inside, not brightly open to the sky like my C-MAX

Having to climb up to get in, instead of simply sliding to the right and sitting.

And the really, really big one............getting only 14 MPG compared to my 38-52 MPG in my C-MAX.

I sure was glad to get behind the wheel of my little Jelly Bean today! And I'm sure I'll realize some other things I missed after another trip out and about.

Hi Hatchman,

MPG on individual trips to and from work 5 days a week have steadily increased as the weather has moderated, but it's not reflected in the Fuelly sig yet. I drive about 20 miles each way to work. Mornings are cold here in Michigan, so it's usually 33-34MPG on the way in, using heat, defrost, lights, and bun warmers,  but on the way home, when it's warmer, I see 44-52...same route. I've been driving since late November, with weeks of temps in the single digits, and that takes it's toll. Warmers days, even temps in the 40s, seriously increase my MPG. My current tank, driven before we left for our trip during nicer days, is @ 40.2 MPG. I have nearly 4,000 on the odo.  Plus, I'm learning a lot from this forum.

My baby was getting cleaned and tinted for 2 days and they gave an Escape to drive. I was the same way . Have to use a key to get in and start it? No remote start on the frosty mornings? And the big one half a tank on gas and only 150 miles to EMPTY? Just picked her up tonight and ohhhhh was that a nice smooooooth quiet ride home. Aaaaaa.........

I live not too far from Adair and I am experiencing the same mileage variations.  My fuelly also is low, compared to what I am getting these days.  I also had over 2000 miles of high speed freeway driving when I first got the car.  I did not see good fuel mileage then and it will take some time to get the fuelly number up.  My daily commute is 30 miles each way.  Depending on the temperature I am now getting 38-44 on the way to work, when the temps are at their lowest, and 46 -50 on the way home in the afternoon, when temps are highest.

Don't worry about explaining Fuelly, I have been getting 47+MPG tanks (including 3 x 600 mile tanks) but mine is skewed lower due to my long a$$ trips to Mammoth when its snowing. Anyway...hope your family is doing better and welcome back  :)

Did you try to climb up the snow to the peak w/ the C-Max like the guys on Top Gear did yesterday :)

Nice!!!!!! I am glad you brought that up....yeah, I saw that episode as well and I know all the spots. They didn't reach the peak...no freaking way, not in that storm...they may have reached the top of Chair 12 and called it quits. Those guys are nutz...I hate to see the $$$ budget for each episode, they trash everything. For the record, Maxine got to the Mill parking - I'll show the pic in my upcoming Mammoth Trip 4 thread...with some very interesting and blow-your-mind results. Keep an eye out for it  ;)

I think it's time you took Maxine to the beach instead of the snow!

Re: MPG's, I really enjoy having several different time ranges:

Lifetime was restarted at 1000 mi (figured that was a good starting point for "life").

I reset the MPG number from the Inform mode at 3000 (just reached it), and will probably reset at 5000.

Trip 1 is reset at each fillup, to give me an idea of how I'm doing "in the moment".

What other car gives you all these options!

Such luv for his baby!

My family thinks I am crazy.

Park where? No way. Walking won't hurt you.

Is. That. A. ... Oh, it's just some dirt...

Gosh. If they get any closer my sensors will go off!

Do you have to SLAM the door??

We are NOT putting that in the back of my car. (we did. Icechest of boiled crawfish. It was fine)

But does she get to relax and enjoy it?  Or is it all work, work work? :)
