Lacienega
Just bought Mobil 1 Hybrid 0W-20. Never saw that before but it is recommended for Ford specification WSS-M2C947-A and gives you the warranty to be good for 15 000 miles instead of the usual 10k miles. Price was good too at walmart
homestead
Just bought some recently, mine looks different. Front label says suitable for Hybrid.
Lacienega
Yes, that is what I used for the last 5 oil changes. They still have it and I was actually looking to buy it when I saw this new one, even $2 cheaper. Probably not much different, just marketing thing. djc
The publicity release says the "Hybrid" version is a Walmart exclusive. It is currently $28 a 5-qt jug. The additive package is supposed to include an additive that reduces water in the oil, a problem for hybrids because they run the engine intermittently and as a result often have lower coolant and oil temps. That causes water (and fuel) to build in the oil. PR sheet says this hybrid version of Mobil 1 "...has a special additive designed to help keep water and additional contaminants away from critical engine parts. homestead
I bought mine from walmart but it must have been just before the new version came out. My son also has a c-max so will look for the new version when we change his oil.
jzchen
I checked the http://www.mobiloil.com website and see 5W-20 listed. Did Ford switch to recommending 0W-20 at some point? (Ours was a 2013 Energi). It's a bummer their website makes no mention of it from what I saw, (maybe I missed it somewhere)... EDIT- Checked what oil it recommends for our '18 Honda Clarity PHEV and low and behold 0W-20 Hybrid is top of the list! homestead
Was changed in 2014. Mar 12 2014 4717 -2014 Fusion and MKZ Hybrid/Energi - Oil Viscosity Specification Change The oil viscosity recommendation of 5W-20 on the oil fill caps on some 2014 Fusion and MKZ Hybrid/Energi vehicles may appear to conflict with the owner guide and other service publications which recommend 0W-20 oil. Both 0W-20 oil and 5W-20 oil are approved for use in these vehicles. Lacienega, djc, jzchen and 1 other
djc
This specialized hybrid oil has just come to market. It will be interesting to see how long Walmart carries it, as it vies for shelf-space with less-specialized oils. Also worth watching is whether Mobil offers a rebate to call attention to it. Some years they have had substantial rebates on their oils. If anyone comes across one, please post here.
jzchen
Interesting, (I'm tinkering with the Mobil oil selector with our '18 Clarity). The next oil change will be at over 75k mi, and if I check that box top choice is Extended Performance High Mileage, 2nd choice Hybrid. If I uncheck it meaning less than 75k mi Hybrid is top choice, followed by Extended Performance (non-high mileage). I have stocked one 5 qt of the Extended Performance High Mileage for the next (over 75k mi) oil change, prior to this Hybrid release... djc
The 2023 Mobil 1 rebate program has been announced: https://acbincentives.com/mobil1/terms.asp Includes "Advanced Fuel Economy" but not "Hybrid" version. Rebate for most versions is $6 per 5 quarts, or $10 for a few "extended performance" versions. Limit 2 rebates per household. Walmart is not on the long list of participating retailers, although "Other retailer" is. In past years rebates have been issued for purchases at Walmart even though WM was not on the list.
