zalusky
We went to the sharks game tonight. We were out and about for probably 5 hours. As we left the arena to walk across the street to get our car. I am wondering why are the lights on. As I approached I could hear the engine running.I guess I either forgot to shut it off or stutter punched the button when I parked it. Sadlt, It shot my average down from 45.6 down to 45.0. Has this hever happened to anybody else? I think the car should beep at you if you try to lock it with the engine on and walk away with the FOB. Jus-A-CMax
It does! If I step out of the car with the FOB in my pocketand the engine is on, it will toot the horn at you right away, and its happened more than a few times when I am at my job sites. So, how did u get around this? Edited May 6, 2013 by Jus-A-CMax
Adair
Has this hever happened to anybody else? I think the car should beep at you if you try to lock it with the engine on and walk away with the FOB.Oh yes! About 2 weeks after I got it. I ran some errands at lunch and when I got out, did what you did....either didn't notice that it was still running (in EV, so quiet!), or accidentally turned it back on again. Either way, I clicked to lock it and it beeped twice........but, silly me, I thought I had hit the lock button on the fob an extra time. 2 hours later my boss came in and told me the car was still running! I couldn't believe it! She only heard it because the ICE was running. The fob and I were at least 100 yards away from the car at the time. No one could get in because it was locked, but I wondered what would have happened if someone *did* break in? Would the car stop because there was no fob? fotomoto
I did in my prius because its warning chime was very muted, I was at a street festival with loud music, and I was in a rush. Luckily (fingers crossed), I haven't in the CMAX because its horn warning is much louder. Edited May 6, 2013 by fotomoto
ArizonaEnergi
I'm looking forward to using this "feature" when we travel this summer with our parrot, although I suspect I will use the "remote start - run for 15-30 minutes" method to keep the beast cool, rather than just leaving it running. It's my understanding the car cannot be driven if someone were to get/break in while it's running, without having the key fob.

jmckinley
"It's my understanding the car cannot be driven if someone were to get/break in while it's running, without having the key fob." I think you're wrong. I think there have been instances where Husband and Wife drove somewhere, he got out with fob in pocket, she hopped in and drove somewhere else. When she came back to car, she had no fob and could not start car. This happened to my neighbor with his Prius. Somewhere in the owner's manual it mentions that there is a feature that lets you restart within 15 seconds or so without fob just for these instances - if you remember in time. At any rate, the car can be driven without fob if it is already running.
ArizonaEnergi
****OFF TOPIC**** What kind of parrot do you have? That would be Elvis, the Sun Concure, who has hung around with us for 25 years. Generally seems to like traveling until late in the day it gets cranky from not having his normal daily naps.

I can understand maybe in a midwest winter you might want to start and warm the car but that what remote start is about. If you walk away without the FOB it should stop the car. What if your carjacked and the guy tries to drive away. It should stop.

armoredsaint
I'm a lot more aware of my surroundings than that - did you drink before the game when you drove? ;)
homestead
This happened to me when we were buying the c-max. Took the car on the test drive and parked it next to our oldcar then went into the dealership to do the paperwork. Went outside about an hour later to get my insurance card and I heard the carengine running. Don't remember any honk warning when we got out of the car and both fobs were inside the dealership. ArizonaEnergi
I just did a test. I started the car and rolled down the driver's window, then shut it off and got out. Then I did the remote start (lock, start, start) and placed the fob about 30 feet away. The car was, of course, locked. So I reached in and opened the door with the handle and the car honk alarm went off (very loud in a garage, btw) until I could get to the fob and shut it off. Did not test to see if I could drive the car with the alarm going off. Maybe next time. And I see I just got an email from My Ford Mobile that my alarm had gone off. zhackwyatt
I haven't left the car running accidentally, but somehow I left it with the rear hatch open. I was taking my dog to the dog park and meeting a friend there. She called to tell me she parked next to me and found my hatch wide open. The dog stays in the back seat so I didn't open the hatch to get him out, I'm not sure how I did it. The only thing I can think of is I accidentally hit the hatch button twice instead of the lock button twice on the fob.
homestead
Watch out for doggie tails if you have the rear hatch auto open option. :) ScubaDadMiami
