Recumpence
I received an email today from the salesman who sold me my Max asking me how my mileage is doing. He already knew I am way over the EPA rating. Anyway, when I shared a screenshot of my mileage and told him I have over 20,000 miles on it, he said he would love to arrange a driving session in my car with he and his manager to show them a few tips on how to maximize mileage with the C-Max. I thought it was a good thing that the dealers are showing an interest in such things. I will let you know how it goes when we get together. :) Matt Edited May 14, 2013 by Recumpence JAZ, Laurel, robertiv and 5 others
Laurel
That is a really nice compliment to you and how you are driving your C-Max. Good for you Matt, and don't forget to tell us how it goes.
ScooterS
It is great if that is really what they want..... It will be interesting to see if the salesman attempts to sell you a new car in the process.. Kinda like the old "we need your tradein" scam. Keep us posted! Adair
That is fantastic!!! Nice to see they are paying attention........and don't feel they already know everything there is to know about the C-MAX. Because, clearly, those of us *in the trenches* so to speak, have more hands on knowledge. Can't wait to hear how it goes!!

Kinda like the old "we need your tradein" scam. No, it is nothing like that. This is a HUGE dealer with only phenominal ratings. I have known them for a long time. They are Wickstrom Ford in Barrington Illinois. Google them, they are an incredible dealer. The way this came about is, the salesman remembered I am an appliance repairman. He emailed looking for a part for his mother's dryer. I dropped that part off at the dealer while he was in a meeting. In our email correspondence, he asked if I was still getting really high MPG (I already emailed him about this months ago). I said yes and sent him a picture of my mileage. So, after I dropped off the part, he emailed back and said he wished he knew I was there because the meeting he was in was with a Ford trainer and they were discussing fuel economy. So, this would have been perfect. He told me he filled the trainer in on my mileage and my total miles driven and the Ford trainer showed interest in speaking with me. After that, we discussed getting together either as a group, or just the salesman himself. We shall see how it goes........ BobJustBob
Matt, I know from this discussion thread and several others in this sub-forum that you achieve very high gas mileage--but what is your mpg? I'd like to know the number just as a reminder as to what is possible, to help motivate me. Another thing about your experience is that you live in a northern state, so this tells me that high mileage is possible even in a state which experiences cold weather. Did you use any kind of grill blocker during the winter?
Recumpence
In the winter, I ran a grille block and averaged 42mpg to 45mpg with regular unleaded. In the warmer weather, I am averaging 54mpg with regular and 59mpg with premium. This is mainly in town driving. Today I ran the AC for much of the day and averaged 53mpg on regular fuel. MattWhat is your Lifetime MPG? Did you ever reset it? Is most of your driving in town? That's excellent mileage. I'm surprised you see a difference with premium gas. Recumpence
I reset my lifetime mileage after about 600. My mileage shows 45.4 Currently. Buying my car at the beginning of winter killed me. I am showing 52.3mpg on trip one for over 3,700 miles in the warm weather. Recumpence
If you go to the mileage sub forum you will see many threads with descriptions on how I and Jus (the king of MPG on this forum) get our high numbers. The whole topic is hashed out at length in that forum. Oh, in 90+ degree heat with AC on, I average 53mpg in town. :) Matt

MattBought many a vehicle from Wickstom, one Taurus wagon, one Taurus Sedan, one E-150 van, two Explorers. In fact my 1988 Taurus sedan "retired" to AZ with a co-worker and it just hit 100,000 miles.....nothing other than a water pump mechanically since new (other than a battery or two, new brakes and tires). Wickstrom was a great Dealer for us, always fair, no games. But, since we've moved further South Wickstom isn't very convenient . Getting close to getting that C-Max but we'll be using another great Dealer near us, Bredemann Ford in Glenview. Good luck, let us know how your discussion goes. ;)
