Half at 55 - 65, with some slow and go in Los Angeles. 40mpg overall. This thing has some real pep. A couple freeway situations where I floored it to change lanes into a gap in traffic that was not as large as I would like it to be. In one case, stuck behind a truck at 45mph, hit the gas to hit a gap in the adjacent 70+mph lane. Acceleration was immediate and more than adequate to the task. Same experience when merging onto the freeway from a couple dicey on-ramps. The Cmax is definitely not a Prius. Ride is smooth and quiet. Small problem with cruise control. I expected that tapping the "Set-" button would reduce my speed by a small increment. Instead it shut off cruise control completely. No resume possible; had to turn cruise control back on and set my speed. I wonder if you'll get more as it breaks in and you get used to driving it a certain way? That cruise control issue has to be an error. dtorres Posted October 6, 2012 Report Share Posted October 6, 2012 (edited) After one week and very little effort I'm also averaging 40mpg. I'm just under 1/2 tank with 320 miles. Cool, I was reading the manual to find some info on the cruise control (surprisingly I did not see it in the index). I last used mine a couple days ago and it worked pretty much as expected. One odd thing however is that I have to reset the ECO Cruise every time I use the car, and that is buried several screens into the menus. I live outside city limits and take the back roads to work; fewer stops and starts in a gas vehicle is best. Since I picked it up last night, I have driven about 40-50 miles. 80% in city (25-45 mph) and 20% in freeway (60-65 mph). Got 48+ mpg!!! While on freeway with cruise control set to 60mph, I noticed that the mpg meter was going up/down depending on road condition (i.e. slight incline or flat or slight decline). But it was maintaining above 47mpg reading. That's pretty impressive to me. My previous vehicle was a small pick-up truck that gave me 18mpg combined city+hwy driving. Good start so far! kechair Posted November 8, 2012 Report Share Posted November 8, 2012 (edited) Have had my CMax for a couple weeks now. On my second tank.40+ mpg on my first tank (calculated)dash shows 41.5 mpg half way through my second tank. 700+ lifetime miles so far. Practicing mild hyper-miling (still doing 65-70 mph on the freeway, trying to stay in EV mode as long as possible on city streets). Best trip was 51 mpg one way on my 28 mile daily commute (50/50 fwy/city, some stop and go). Regarding space - I'm transitioning from a Lexus RX-300 (first year model) and I can tell you passenger space wise the CMax is a tad bit roomier while the cargo space is a little smaller.
