Jus another market research CMax gathering...

So I dunno how I get my name into these things but I am collecting another check and a chance to see PLENTY of CMax owners in the one room.

Due to a non-disclosure agreement, I won't mention place, name or company or what happened....however I think I can make these notes on the participants:

1. Nice to see plenty of CMaxs all parked in the one place tha is not a car lot. One participant commented on how they got their CMax and they were the only ones and it was rare to see another.  feels like the forum back in December 2012.

2. CMax drivers there were diverse.....all sort of young women, older women, big guy, skinny guy, age, height, size...all walks of life for sure. I swear one dude looked like ScubaDadMIami in his outfit....I had to take a second glance.

3. A few of them are high miles CMaxers, > 25K miles. Those drivers were really luving the CMaxs and the ton of gas and $$$ saved. They had HUGE smiles on their faces when they were stating that...

4. So they were all discussing the new updates. I was there late and I didn't hear a word about the $550 Ford check.

5. Boy...they :flirt:  their CMaxs and inversely, could not care diddly-squat for the Prii. Funny enough, all of them considered the Prii before the CMax.

6. Some drivers were unhappy about certain aspects of the CMax and felt this surveyw was one way to let "Ford" know. Hmmh...ok.

7. Some CMaxers were getting mid 30s before the update and now they are getting the low 40s. Similar stories to over here.

8. Conversely, some City Maxers are killing it in the MPG department. We all knew that...but how much KILLING is killing? LOL....I wondered. Would have luved to hear that conversation....and then we all got called into the survey.

Last note as I was leaving....there were more White CMaxs than any other...yaaaah!!!!

It was a fun event as much fun and intrigue as a group survey can get....but not AS MUCH FUN as the Irvine event. The sponsor of this event was unknown. I have my speculation but it's jus that, speculation.

However, before anyone asks....no...Ford Motor Company was not there although we did get surveyed about what we thought of the CMax - naturally and to be expected.

As for me, I as incognito...stealth. I was in my urban camouflage personality and gear, I didn't say anything about myself or the forum or even mention my MPGs, there was no need. Hell, I didn't even know these CMax forums existed..."forum"...what is that strange word.....

<I am a figment of your imagination...I am not here>

<look away>

:future:

:twister:

lol.

So right now, this CMax has returned about $1,000 in cash inlcuding the Ford check and these market research/pow-wow gatherings. Not bad... :)

They may do other research in other states, I am sure of that....so be on the look out if you get a letter asking for a Auto/CMax survey.

Sssh...another NDA so I will have to keep it fairly high. Well it was a small meet. I was the only CMax driver there, all others were other Ford vehicles. I flew out the best & worse of our car - even brought up the dead battery issue which I personally have not had but I wanted Ford to hear about it along with the MFT issues - seems like we aren't the only ones with the MFT bugz. I espoused the amazing tech this car has with the updates which most posters here feel blaise about it (don't know why) but I have never seen these type of tech updates in ANY other manufacturer car - perhaps thats jus me and oh, thats my opinion and observation of this forum. Yes, I talked about the lawsuit and the reasons and consequences of it - none of the other Ford owners knew about it. I was stunned but I - like all of you as well - live in a CMax bubble.

Again - these are public topics, nothing secretive about it.

It was a very cosy meeting and I am thankful that I was invited to comment OPENLY in a live discussion. Yes, I did blow them away with my MPGs and I got 63.5 driving 50/50 City/Freeway from work to get there. Amazing car, Amazing Pods.

I tried and could barely get a pulse out of the meeting...I know you tried as well. Who knows, may be people aren't that interested, after all, its just another car to them unlike the many regular posters here such as yourself and ptjones who I regard as connoisseurs of the Maxers.

Holy crap...this morning I jus got an email from Ford Motor asking additional questions about a response I had filled in back in Feb @ the Irvine Pow-Wow. This is in regards to the negative split mode like executing at 25-35 due to the SOC just after the initial startup.

Wow..no one can say they are NOT listening. Gonna write it up at work and send it tonight....folk, BIG PAPA is listening and asking questions!!!!

Jus, that picture of your rear hatch logo's broken makes me sick.  Now I'm paranoid someone is going to hit me from behind.

Sorry Brother Mike, didn't mean to scare yer. Its my way to flag I am down but when I get my car up, Mr.Scott may be back... ;)

And yes, be paranoid, always look for a safe way out. I am starting to do that out of habit now. I was like you, oblivious to the dangers of rear end and ALWAYS leave more room than you think before the car in front.

How did you get get invited to the initial gathering?

Great question. I did a thread on the Irvine Pow-Wow but I'll recap this for you. I received an email survey from Ford just after I purchased the car, that was in Dec 2012. The survey asked about everything on the CMax, what you thought, strengths, weakness, issues - didn't think much of it and then some of us in CA got a letter from the RD Group(?) asking if we wanted to come meet the engineers in Irvine. Silly, of course we did!

Don't be, I got lucky. And its jus a coincidence of the :gold_star: s  above that I recently had some additional calls....

My take away after all the calls that I got:

1. There are A LOT of drivers there who do not know how to drive FE. The dealers only say "this car will teach you how to drive". Really. Those of you lucky to be here, please LEARN from us old posters, we :flirt:  to help.

2. On the opposite scale - a few drivers have blown past what miles I have driven, more like Matt up in the high 20s or 30s by now. I didn't hear any stellar MPGs but some of them are in the 50s averages. So thats some good news. stellar, I mean > 60 mpgs.

3. They all luv their car and they all seemed to know they may not achive the 47s as advertised and some of them come from gas guzzlers so anything above 35MPG is still great. Can't fault them, not everyone is a FE driving coocoos like the 700+ Mile Clubbers.

4. Same story: power, view and driveability HUGE +. They all hated the Prii for those same reasons.

5. Reason to buy a hybrid: gas prices.

Also being on this site has taught me alot about the impact of aerodynamics on MPG, which interest me but not a cup of tea for most of them. Sometimes when they are asked to evaluate shapes, they still pick the most in-efficient shapes and call it "cool & LIKE"...ssssh.
